@@ceulgai2817 i actually thought for a moment you meant belinda carlisle's version, and were referring to her as The Original Chipmunk. that's what listening to this stuff does to you after a while
I remember this well, it was their encore at Woodstock '94. Alvin and Trent Reznor had been hanging out for a while before that concert- NiN had just finished their cover of Dead Souls for The Crow Soundtrack and Alvin really wanted to replicate that sound. Courtney Hole tried it on with Simon that night but he was too scared to go any further. Alvin came off stage that night and realized that nothing-nothing- would ever reach the emotion heights of what they achieved at that concert. Alvin and Trent were going to collaborate further but Alvin's addictions and Trent's workload on Downward Spiral conspired to work against them.
A teenage girl who was homeschooled in a hoarder's house, surrounded by heaps of the dusty and mildewed pieces of her mother's 80's youth, her grandmother's 50's austerity. She has no concept of what modern pop culture is, barely concept of the internet. Her mom was just hauled away to a recovery home without the authorities realizing she was buried back in the hall bedroom by herself, her nan having breathed her last breath and covered in expired pierogies in the freezer. Black mold hallucination of her dream boy appears before her, she dances slowly on a floor of flattened photo albums and food containers. The back door blows open, a blessed draft of air from the waking world. The dream boy wafts away but the warmth of his cherubic, impossible gentility remains in her belly, in her trembling arms. She walks out through the overgrown lawn, strides with halting ecstasy the fallow alfalfa field between the house and town.
Call me is and My Sharona are also very good but this one has got to be the best sludge chipmunks. It perfectly inverts the meaning of the song, for me it's about the coming of the Antichrist
You should look up Jolene by Dolly Parton. The original doomer song, people found out by playing the 45 vinly record at the 33rpm setting and since she's got such a high voice it sounds like a man singing when slowed down. I heard it play on the radio once.
Epilogue of Black Mirror San Junipero, 10 000 years in the future in the simulated afterlife: everyone has lost their mind, capacity for love, and will to live centuries ago. They wander aimlessly, clawing at their eyes and moaning or cackling emptily, dim memories of their former joy giving them occasional dull happiness.
The normal version of this song plays on the radio at work all the time so this version feels like I slipped into Hell while at work, which is almost sort of like Hell squared
“Do you think that if you were falling in space... that you would slow down after a while, or go faster and faster?” “Faster and faster. And for a long time you wouldn't feel anything. And then you'd burst into fire. Forever... And the angel's wouldn't help you. Because they've all gone away.”
I see a lot of comments’ reinterpretations of this song into an apocalyptic setting/meaning, which I dig, but interestingly I am actually hearing more clearly now the yearning, desperate, lustful meaning of this song. With it slowed and distorted, it’s as if representing lust and yearning within a very toxic relationship...
This is the song that plays as I walk to a bridge to jump off. Meanwhile my lover is cheating on me back at the apartment. Both of us are going to experience that heaven is a place on earth, through lust and death.
"Two steps, Alvin. You were two steps too late. I'll admit, I wasn't expecting to confront a trio of giant singing chipmunks, but I've seen equally bizarre things as I got closer to Heaven. Unfortunately for you, you won't be able to see that happen." As the ocean continued to gush to and fro, Pucci disappeared, as a laceration appeared seemingly out of nowhere across Alvin's face, the shock causing him to fall over into the water that stood up to his shoulders. The blood from his wound became a maroon blur that dissolved almost immediately. Time continued to accelerate, until the universe decayed into nothingness and was born anew.
Somewhere in a post apocalyptic world, a doo wop singing street gang performs this one last song to their mortally wounded leader. As the leader lays there dying, he was comforted by their voices. He could barely speak as the three stood over him in that dirty alley, all in perfect harmony. It was the song he'd spent so many restless days rehearsing with them and had long assumed they would never get it right. But somehow, they did. Everyone else around him had either fled or perished long ago. But not them. While the group rarely showed affection for one another, they were there for each other. And this was no different. Somehow he knew, his pals would always be there for him, on Heaven or Earth.
In 100 years, every single person that you see around you, everyone alive in this moment of time, every celebrity, every loved one, will be dead and forgotten.
"Simon, Teodore, its time to heat up the spoons again!" "But Alvin, we only have the trash stuff!" "Doesnt matter! Nothing matters anymore since Dave died! We'll make heaven a place on Earth. Now, Teo, bring the shit from the dumpster"
I listened this song while trying to sleep. I put it on loop. I lied in my stomach and let this song play and tried to lay as still as possible. I imagined myself as dead. That someone would be hearing this song while staring down at my corpse. I imagined myself dead for a few minutes, something about it sunk in and seriously fucked my head up, felt a steep drop in my stomach. I think I nearly gave myself a panic attack just doing that.
Lynch used slowed down audio a lot in The Return. The deep noises when the woodsmen appear are slowed down notes from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, and a slowed down version of American Woman plays when Mr. C is driving to the cabin.
My eyes welled up and I let out a single sob and now I'm okay again. What the fuck just happened? This isn't the first time I've heard this version. I just feel fucking haunted. I've never felt so strongly about the power of the word "fuck" to describe my total awe and terror. Anyway, uh, hope everybody else is okay. All of the comments are vibes but I hope nobody else is feeling like sincerely upset by this. I love you
