  • Is it possible for uncertainty to be considered a positive force affecting the human drifting in her vortex? Can one fully control control the impact on our life while facing the unknown- and the fear that comes with it? According to Anastasios Stalikas, Professor of Psychology, the answer is yes. It only takes the conceiving uncertainty as an integral part of the human path. We are born, we exist, and we are evolving in an environment based on uncertainty. Uncertainty brings fear. But is the fact that the very sentiments of fear and excitement are based in the exact same spot in our brain a coincidence?
Our ability to accept, to tame and to reconcile with the uncertainty triggers the transgression from fear to excitement, Anastasios Stalikas argues on the TEDxPatras 2019 stage. The well- known Psychology professor presents us all about that excitement which can serve as the generator of flexibility and growth regarding the cognitive, emotional and social skills which pave us the way to a life worthy of being lived. Can uncertainty prove to be a gift, giving us the opportunity to become happy by defining the true essence and worth of our existence? Let’s find out… Anastassios Stalikas is a Psychology professor at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, an adjunct professor at McGill University, and a visiting professor and research associate at several universities, such as the National and Kapodistriako University of Athens, the University of Thessaly, the University of Cyprus and the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna. He is the current President of the Hellenic Society of Positive Psychology, business consultant, trainer, coach, clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. His research interests spring from the fields of Clinical and Counseling Psychology and his research initiatives aim in understanding the manner in which people “flourish” psychologically by implementing their character strengths, experiencing positive emotions, finding meaning in their lives, and by developing their psychological resilience. He is the author of 10 scientific books, more than 60 chapters in scientific books, and 200 articles in scientific journals and conference presentations at the international scientific community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
