Kind of makes you wonder why this never came out way except by way of a fan translation. Then again, this game came out roughly about the year that the Saturn and the PlayStation were getting started, so it comes as no compete surprise that there was a support drop.
+Kaffekane Like you said, game came out at the very end of the SNES lifespan, plus all that text. The three scenarios makes for a lengthy script. By the time it would have been ready for a US release FF7 would have been out.
+DariaPlaysRPGs Not to mention having to translate and code the spell system, especially since officially localizing it would've probably demanded doing a lot more reworking of its functions than the translation patch applied. Oh well. At least we did eventually get that patch, which was a miracle in of itself.
+gurvmlk Agreed. The work Ghideon put into making that spell system functional in English was impressive in-and-of itself. I kind of regret not making that clearer in my own review. :/
DariaPlaysRPGs Impressive, indeed. I've read that before Ghideon came along and cracked it, many people in the translation community thought the spell system would be impossible to ever piece together. Truly a crowning achievement.
Not to mention the battle itself. It's so satisfying when an RPG's final boss truly manages to push everything you've learned reaching that point to the limit just so you can stand a mild chance at victory (aside of course from grinding mad levels). For how challenging the game can already be, the final boss makes everything leading up to that point a seem like a joke if you're not absolutely prepared.
This is the one and only repro I've been seriously considering picking up. Loved playing through the game on an emulator, and usually I hate games when on emulators even if they're games I would normally enjoy on a console.
One of the greatest games ever made, period

One of the first repros I bought, very cool little game back when Square gave a crap.
This is the one and only repro I've been seriously considering picking up. Loved playing through the game on an emulator, and usually I hate games when on emulators even if they're games I would normally enjoy on a console.
What console was this for? SNES or PS1?
SNES
