I discovered this instrument more then 30 years ago. Shakuhachi is the instrument, name of the song Honshirabe by Kohachiro Miyata, name of the CD "Japan - The Japan flute". I bought it back then. Enjoy!
chronos, baraka and samsara are my favourite films. music is gorgeous, the imagery and evocation of feelings are out of this world. So moving and inspiring.
I am a big music aficionado and have listened to many powerful, emotional songs and OSTs but none have even come close to touching me to the extent that this has. Every time I listen to this I tear up and get chills down my spine, this piece evokes a feeling that is so intensely sublime that I'm at a loss for words. Perhaps the most beautiful piece of music I will ever hear in my lifetime.
I literally have all of Michael Stearns' compositions and while his earlier work were "pure electronic", his later works fuse instruments from around the world with electronic ambience.

the film is an emotional rollercoaster , i can remember the segment of the donkey with the heavily laden cart struggling up that hill , it's blind devotion to purpose .....i just sat there bawling , tears rolling down my face.🧠

Sadly, the soundtrack version of the opening scene released on CD/streaming is cut very short. The film has the gorgeous extended version with the gentleman's beautiful, haunting singing, who I still am looking to find out his name. The released soundtrack does not at all do it justice. A friend recorded the actual film soundtrack for me and it's much better.

On a certain level, we have Baraka in our brain, the neurochemicals that show up in flow: so dopamine, norepinephrine, anandamide, endorphins, and serotonin. If you were to try to cocktail the street drug version of that, right, you're trying to blend like heroin and speed and coke and acid and weed- and point is, you can't do it. It turns out the brain can cocktail all of 'em at once, which is why people will prefer flow to almost any experience on Earth. It's our favorite experience. It's the most addictive experience on Earth. Why? 'Cause it cocktails five or six of the largest pleasure drugs the brain can produce. We're all capable of so much more than we know. That is a commonality across the board. And one of the big reasons is we're all hardwired for flow, and flow is a massive amplification of what's possible for ourselves.
