@mizzothify mizzothifi but guess what, this composition is actually composed in 1826, revised in 1852 but melody stayed same. Chopin's F minor etude composed it 1829.
@mizzothify mizzothifi well they are not that chopinesque, just some improved upright harmony stuff with left hand. Motifs are not even close to be chopinesque. Transcendental technique is also not a chopinesque one so no
Don't bother reading the comment section. It's just people complaining about how this performance wasn't good enough. Just realize how crazy hard this piece is in the first place...
For me the main question is whether I like the piece, or how much. I've heard these etudes many times recently, and their charm has diminished. I far far prefer the Chopin etudes. I would sure love to be able to play these, don't get me wrong.
This etude, together with chasse neige, is one of ,if not my most favorite music, and Ashkenazy's interpretation is the most impressive among the innumerable records I ever heard, Regretfully Ashkenazy didn"t rcord the chasse neige in that historical record.
as France Clidat j have here virtuosity no only but lyricisme also ; Aschkenazy j known since 1958 with his first recording Chopin studies is a lyrical pianist and a virtuoso, he xan play all but j like mainly his Prokofiev also Rachmaninov
I thought until seeing this, that Fuex Follets was the most difficult piece to learn, but this one looks like a close tie. It definitely looks more difficult than Wild Jagd, the one Etude that I've really come a long way with.
Some of these notes are different than the manuscript I bought from everynote This transcription is easier in certain passages, because some thirds are missing.
I have a feeling , that i find the main theme of this transcendental in another piece, but i just cant find the melody anywhere.. Does this melody actually bring the feeling of some other pieces to anybody else? If it does, please paste me the piece in the comment reply, thank you.
I was thinking the same. There's The Cat and Mouse by Aaron Copland, Concerto No. 1 by Tchaikovsky, and many of Chopin's Etudes have sort of the same jist.
@@trtnec , this looks like one of the more difficult pieces, like Fuex Follets, it requires great speed and accuracy combined. There is no way this is as easy as Wild Jagd, I can play that one, but this one, I don't know, this one looks like it will be very complicated to learn and play at the speed that it was played here.
This causes your hand's strenght, agility and endurance to grow significantly. After you study it very well you are going to feel the difference in performing other pieces
Actually in Wiki It said it is a study of climax You need to have enough capacity to think for the emotion while still have capacity for the difficulties in this piece
Thanks for including the sheet music so we can all play along at home :(
this comment made my day. Thanks for posting this two years ago.
Nice one!
It's like a virtuoso version of Chopin's 10/9 étude in f minor
I can totally hear it now that you pointed that out. They're also both in F minor
I can notice it now too! I love both in such different ways
@mizzothify mizzothifi but guess what, this composition is actually composed in 1826, revised in 1852 but melody stayed same. Chopin's F minor etude composed it 1829.
@mizzothify mizzothifi There cant be a chopin influence on the 1837 version, because the melody and motifs are same with the 1826 version.

Yeah I'm trying it. I've been trying it it's tiring, and the stretta part is hell.
"don't bother reading the comments, it's just people sharing their opinions"
@Maria Bulova I'm sorry but how is this not good enough?

Only people think that this interpretation wasn't good enough, who doesn't understand the piece.....
Mr. Liszt, how many D-flats are you going to use?
-Liszt: YES 3:07
LMFAOOOOO

MY FAVOURITE.
1:17 I like his interpretation
Mio dio che tecnica e che fraseggio, e i coloriti! sicuramente uno dei piu grandi del novecento
My favourite.Asolutely astounding.
Excellent 🍾
너무 좋다...

Left Hand Arpeggio Technique is Like Czerny Etude!! Also, LIszt is Czerny's Pupil!!
민르시아마리 Czerny Is the boss! Op.365 Is very Hard
2:55 to 3:31 IS HEAVEN
more like hell full of anger exploding lol
Apart from the tinny piano tone (bad recording/indifferent instrument?) Ashkenazys virtuosity is stunning.

Great
who else is doing their listening journal last minute? 🙋🏽♀️
Lol....
What's a listening journal?
me ;-;
yo its 3am right now I put this off last second thinking it would be easy, nah. This is taking forever.
I thought until seeing this, that Fuex Follets was the most difficult piece to learn, but this one looks like a close tie. It definitely looks more difficult than Wild Jagd, the one Etude that I've really come a long way with.
Allen Richards what about mazeppa and chasse neige?
Gregorio Chasse-Neige isn't hard as Mazeppa or Wild Jagd. Because I can play Chasse-Neige, but Mazeppa looks bad in my hands
@@Ar1osssa But you would agree that both are more challenging than n 10 right?
Gregorio I think 10-th is hard like 12-th. I have no time to check it
Gregorio But yep - Mazeppa and Feux follets are harder than this etude
It took me about two days to learn the first bar of this piece! Fucking impossible
Matthew Jones And that's just the easy part!
+Matthew Jones Try again in 10 years.
+Milton I second that. This piece is for those who are already at the pinnacle of their piano technique.
Matthew Jones its actually not that bad...
That's the easiest part of the etude. Good luck Hahah

Some of these notes are different than the manuscript I bought from everynote This transcription is easier in certain passages, because some thirds are missing.
which is harder, this, or lyapunov's 6th? both have comparable length difficulty and themactics
I think Lyapunov's etude is more difficult but accually there are not comparable.
Recorded 1970
Im just learning it :D its fucking hard
When you finish this piece, you'll adore it.
Maybe i finish this piece. I just need to practice Schumann's toccata to :)
ELFAN71 Liszt was a man that wrote his pieces to be needlessly difficult. He definitely liked to show off.
Liszt is a composer who did not want anyone else to play - he had no idea that there would be people like Richter and Ashkenazy.
와... 괴물이다. 진짜 ..
와 가능해?
the climactic repeated octaves were a bit disappointing, they could have had more shape, and intensity. Otherwise great performance!
But I did hear a crescendo , so not too bad !
listen to trifonovs live performance of all the etudes on yt his etude n10 octaves are the absolute gold standard
repeated octaves are honestly so hard for a pianist to make it sound interesting
French best!!

Nathan Haronian I was thinking of the same lol
Its same like chopin etude op 10 no 9 in f minor in my opinion
I was thinking the same. There's The Cat and Mouse by Aaron Copland, Concerto No. 1 by Tchaikovsky, and many of Chopin's Etudes have sort of the same jist.
How the hell can he make Liszt sound like bach
One of the easier transcendental etudes. Ashkenazy therefore decides to play way too fast in certain parts to show off and we lose the line.
+BostonBum15 it's only easier than 4, 5, 12, and about the same as 2 and 8? Not one of the easier ones overall.
But difficult to play it as well as A. does !
the last page is difficult
And for instance also the beginning , to play it in this tempo immediately from the beginning

Feels like Chopin's Etude No. 9
I love Ashkenzay but this doesn’t do it for me
What exactly was the study in this? I can't see how this is an etude.

😅
Could be true.
More Easy than Mereaux Etudes and Czerny Op.364, 365, 399, 400 And Some etudes of Charles Mayer Op.200
okay and now? you czerny fan boys really always have to point things that are surely more difficult😂 please shut it
I guess I'm only good enough for Chopin Etudes. :(
This is easier than most Chopin etudes
Super Brain Yeah, this is much harder than most of chopin's etudes
+Daniel Che not easier than "most" Chopin etudes, but easier than maybe a handful or less.
+Daniel Che What a joke :))) why would Chopin etudes be harder? :DD
Balog Szilárd I think it requires more sensitivity
Not enough of pedal and too many breaks and pauses, which sound more like cuts ...
What the hell? It's like he's hammering the keys. Go to Berezovsky for this.
What in the comments?
Pikachu can play this with one finger
The middle one?
ITS NOT FOR HUMAN WHAT THE FUCK
나만 이거 듣고 죽음의 왈츠 생각나나...
Too fast :c
+Robinson Barrazueta Yes, I find Cziffras performance better.
Not too fast. He has another version and that one is faster than this, but sounds better than this.
