I remember having a track class of some sort at Jenison Field House my freshman year. It was the year before Breslin was built. I had decided, after class, to roam around Jenison and get to know the venerable building a little bit.
When I got done, I found myself at one of the door's to the gym, which would have been a northwest entrance. The door was locked because men's basketball practice was about to start. they were going through warm ups and Jud saw me tugging on the door and he yelled "GO AROUND!" That curmudgeon wouldn't let me take the short-cut.
I still crack up when I think about that. He had this unique ability to chop your tree and make you laugh at the same time.

Hello. I grew up with "Jud" in Missoula, Mt. during his tenure there. My dad was a student at U of M and we loved going to Grizzly bb games. Jud would go ballistic on the sidelines and he would constantly be tugging up his socks. Missoula loved him. I'm grateful that MSU got the best of that man. 19 seasons. What a ride! RIP. What memories. Peace to you and the novel memories you carry.

My dad was a student at U of M during Jud's tenure there. We never missed a game. Missoula loved him. I remember when the Grizzlies made it to the final four and played against UCLA. The Griz
lost by a few points. What a season! I will never forget Jud Heathcoat. 👍❤
A fiery, stand up man and coach.
