- George Wagner, IV is standing trial for the April 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden and Gilley families. Wagner IV faces 22 counts including eight counts of aggravated murder with death penalty specifications, aggravated burglary, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and forgery.
Wagner’s brother, Edward “Jake” Wagner, and his mother, Angela Wagner, have already pleaded guilty to taking part in the conspiracy to murder the eight Rhoden and Gilley family members over their desire to obtain full custody of the then two-year-old daughter Jake shared with victim Hanna May Rhoden. Angela and Jake Wagner have agreed to testify against their family members.
George “Billy” Wagner, the father of Jake and George, faces the same 22 counts.
On the morning of April 22, 2016, family members found Chris Rhoden, Sr., 40, and his cousin, Gary Rhoden, 38, dead in Chris’ mobile home on Union Hill Rd. Chris Sr.’s ex-wife, Dana Manley Rhoden, 37, and their children, Hanna May Rhoden, 19, and Chris Rhoden Jr., 16, were found shot in the head in their sleep in their mobile home down the road. Hanna May had given birth days earlier to a baby girl who was not harmed. Clarence "Frankie" Rhoden, 20 and his fiancee, Hannah "Hazel" Gilley, 20, were also found shot to death in their sleep. Their six-month-old son was in between them covered in blood but unharmed. Frankie’s four-year-old son was unharmed in the home as well.
Kenneth Rhoden, 44, was found shot once in the eye in his camper on Left Fork Rd. more than seven miles away.
Angela Wagner’s mother, Rita Newcomb, pleaded guilty in 2019 to a misdemeanor count of obstruction. She had been charged with forgery and obstruction of justice for lying about signing and notarizing custody documents related to Hanna May, Jake and George’s children. Newcomb has agreed to testify against her family members.
Billy Wagner’s mother, Fredericka Wagner, was initially charged with obstruction of justice and forgery for allegedly lying about purchasing a bullet-resistant vest for Billy. The charges were dropped after it was discovered a plate in the vest was manufactured after the homicides. Prosecutors have said they may refile the charges at a later date. Fredericka has been subpoenaed to testify.

The Wagners did it so they could get custody of the young daughter Jake had with his ex Hanna Rhoden, prosecutors said. Jake indeed won sole custody of the child, now 8, after the murders. The Wagners moved to Alaska. That all changed after authorities arrested them in November 2018, sparking a legal battle lasting almost four years.

I am amazed at the high quality work the BCI & CSI have done! All the evidence gathered was done by intelligent hard working people. Thank you.
That INCLUDES ALSO THE whiners AND complainers comments about the “boring” AND “minute by minute” testimonies by the EXPERTS in their fields during this court trial, so far. SOME were more “upset” by their comments about wanting gruesome photos. NOT the FACTS that the ACTUAL EVIDENCE TAKES TIME in labs to CAREFULLY study/look at METICULOUSLY AND CAREFULLY, as to NOT to rush to judgment. SOME people are use to “instant” everything nowadays. ALSO, SOME people treated this REAL TRAGEDY as a tv show, OR a at least 2 hour movie. But of course, this REAL TRAGEDY did NOT happen to ANY of THEIR family members.
That older defense lawyer for George is RUDE when he questions people
I spent most of my career woras an administrator in various courts across the country. This prosecutor is spot on. He lays out the foundation, brings it forward and connects the dots. Most judges appreciate this approach as do the jurors.

George never looked up much until now... probably steaming mad they are going through all those keepsakes.

Hate using that expression when this case is full of them…… RIP to the 8 innocent victims and may their loved one knows they will never be forgotten by this trial watcher.The survivors deserve justice and more importantly, may those babies left without parents, be wrapped in the arms of their loving families and a God of their understanding. I wonder if Angela, George, Jake or Billy have asked themselves yet if it was all worth it? Not one of them landed in a good position. In fact, the very second they made the decision to wipe out the entire Rhoden family, their own lives began circling the drain and now they find themselves in the toilet.

Truly these kind of people don't have that kind of remorse. Frankly I think the mother Angela got off way too lightly she's been playing headgames with her son's from birth . The people interacting with this family are not exactly smart.. Who in the right mind allows your twelve-year-old daughter to date then move in and sleep in the same bed at the age of 12 these people are not playing with the full deck
Gettin what they deserve I love my grandkids to the moon and back I would give my life for them so I love that Angela & Jake & both George’s will never see those babies again that has to be torment. So sad that you can’t share those babies so they get all the love they deserve

Yes. Both have stated that they'll take the stand against Billy & George on the condition that they take the death penalty off of the table for themselves and their other family members that were involved in the murders.
Jeez, move it along. Organize your evidence and present it efficiently and clearly!
The Wagners did so much prep they failed to follow through on cleanup.

@@shernhern5311 Because the case against the family is a slam dunk. They just didn't know who the trigger men were. But they still had a good chance of convicting and getting the death penalty. They agreed to testify to spare themselves and their family the death penalty.

I think the tax issues, deed transfers/assets and asking for State assistances without providing legit proof of income the State is alluding to another form of control coming from Angela to take these kids because "she/they" want them period because they don't like the girlfriend/wife.

You are correct I was just going to say on one news channel I watch this one reporter also made sure to state that there were 6 adults and 2 teenagers I guess just to emphasize that Hanna Mae was only 19 and she had only been 19 a couple weeks and Hanna Hazel was only 20 - sad to see anyone murdered but this went beyond horrific in my mind and I think it's because of all the premeditation that had to be involved to murder 6 adults and 2 teenagers in a single night - I watch a lot of true crime and I can't think of another case where one family plotted and followed through with a tragedy like this - not even the Hatfield and McCoys took their feud and hatred far enough to wipe out that many in less than 12 hours 😳🥺 it really is bone chilling to think that Hanna Mae's boyfriend could have easily been victim 9 💔💔💔 well he is another victim, just one of many LIVE victims but there are MANY victims 🥲
@@merry8545 Hanna's boyfriend could've been victim #9? Wrong. Her cousin, Kendra, Kenneth's daughter, was almost victim #9. I've heard nothing about the baby's father of Hanna's youngest daughter. Jake lied and told authorities that the newborn was his daughter. They did DNA on the baby and found out it doesn't belong to Jake, Jake lied to them. Kendra is Hanna's newborn baby's Godmother. Hanna asked her to raise the baby should something ever happen to her.
If I was a juror on this case I would be bored 😴.

This prosecutor is so disorganised. Hours of shuffling paper evidence round then relabeling it in front of the jury is taking attention away from the evidence. Plus she doesn’t know how to lay foundation and even seems surprised by some of the testimony. Not great for The State.

Jurors usually wait till both prosecution and defense attorneys have presented their cases before deciding guilt or innocence.
Can someone please explain how showing a bunch of pictures of electronics and cell phones, note books that were hand written in,some even had stick figures drawn on paper. 2 calendars with schedules written on them. Pages of Mrs. Wagner bills she paid and had to pay. We were shown 4 or 5 pages of them.Receipts from different store, one had someone buying a camera,

I don't think that any of them had jobs. Billy is a conman. He has a criminal record. Angela and Jake didn't work anywhere. Hanna's & Jake's child together, Sophia, would've gotten Social Security because Hanna is dead. Billy's mother is well off. George would've been getting welfare for his son.

Nothing at all. There's too much pausing, wasting time, being done. I don't understand why each side doesn't just spit it out at the jury and be done with this case.

The defence tore up all that evidence or non evidence cause it had nothing to do with the murders certainly not regards to George sloppy work
the forged custody documents pertaining to Sophia were with the papers George wrote if anything happened to him he wanted his mother to raise Bulvine. This was all done just before they committed the murders (in case he was killed during the murders he wanted his son to stay in his f-Ed up family). He was getting things in order before the murders. If you know all if the intricate details of the case it all makes sense and points to his guilt. also, his defense is that he isn’t even close to his family- yet they even apply for Medicaid in the same paperwork 🤦🏼♀️ smh!

They also said that each trailer and vehicle had items from every family member in them. His documents being with her documents does not prove anything. At all. It doesn’t say if I die on April 22, this is what I want…. The mother kept all documents, George did what she told him to do. Period.

Billy was the driver to Chris Sr., Jake and George rode in the bed of the truck under a false floor to make it look like it was filled with hay. Then they drove two trucks, one being Chris’ to Kenny’s.
George was supposed to be a trigger man. He kept guard to make sure lil Chris didn’t get up at Dana’s. He didn’t shoot or kill anyone, but he was a participant in the planning. I just don’t feel the prosecution has proved it. They have shown zero evidence proving George was a participator or planner in the murders other than jakes words

OMG.............just skipped through several (five, I think) days of testimony...what would have probably been INTERESTING testimony that I couldn't hear because of the craptastic audio issues in this trial. Now, that we're back to the necessary, yet BORING, task of entering evidence once again I can HEAR the audio in the f'ing courtroom.

I’m still waiting for things to tie George in, they have to prove beyond a shadow of doubt that he was involved. Bills don’t do it. They have evidence for Jake and Angela and a bit for Billy. Get on with it!

They still have not placed him there. I’m not saying he was there or not but according to our law they have to prove it and so far they haven’t. They can’t go by what Jake and Angela will say, they have to have evidence to put him there.

Shown evidence found in personal stored trailers belonging to the Wagner family. The forged custody documents done by Angela presented. Receipt for tennis shoes and brass catcher found. Walmart film showing Angela at Walmart. Ledgers found proving family have shared bills and share info with each other. Show paper Jake writing and drawing of mock up of silencer.

Did you listen to opening statements? According to George’s defense atty he left home at 16 & wasn’t close to his family. He can’t help who his family is- he isnt even close to them- yet their lives were so intertwined. Also, just before the murders he wrote that if anything happened to him his mother was to get custody of Bulvine ( in. Are he was killed while committing murders). And those papers were together with The forged custody papers related to Sophia. These aren’t coincidences..

I’m ready to hear the wire taps they have on George and Jake. I’m wondering how much info we’ll hear that George knew, helped plan and then covered it up. He doesn’t have to be a trigger puller to catch conspiracy and cover up changes.

I'm sorry, but Canepa is just way too disorganized with these exhibits and questioning with Evasladge. She gets lost, she's confused, and she's making it extremely difficult to follow. She's all over the place! Everything should have been organized, in order, and in it's place BEFORE she even began her questioning. At one point, it even appears as if Evasladge has to point her in the right direction with an exhibit. This is not good...not good at all. I get it that she's a good attorney - I don't doubt that...but something is clearly out of balance here. I'm sure she's exhausted along with everyone else in this case, but a case doesn't get much more serious than this. It needs her full, undivided attention to detail.
Maybe it's me but this woman special agent is so unorganised and forgetful she is wasting so much time. This case would be over in half the time with more efficient team.Why? Were these people picked being such a massive case.

Linda 8 adults were murdered, none of the children were shot or killed. It’s important the prosecutors are competent so guilty verdicts are given to the Wagner’s

She just doesn’t have anything to work with to place him at crime scenes or premeditated murder. State gave deals to the guilty participants, which is a disgrace. This was a family wipe out murder. Why give pleas if state was confident? So they could testify to the ONE person they don’t have enough evidence on? Seems like state prosecutor is as backwards as the people who live there. What a mess!!!
The female on the prosecution team, MAYBE needs her law partners to rehearse with her/teach her/help her for a LONG time on how to NOT fumble around during trials. She appears lost and unequipped and takes entirely to long with people on the witness stand. I STILL want to know WHY she took over after the break when the man on their team before said break was doing the questioning of the witnesses. At least he was prepared, thorough and concise. He kept the trial on an even path AND covered what needed to be covered 100% in an even paced.
