In my opinion, Slack was (and is) a real game-changer when it comes to workplace communication. Makes communication within an organization so much faster, easier, more organized, and I think it's great for fostering a sense of community within a company, as well as bringing employees closer together. TONS of companies use Slack and Slack has various integrations which can make different people's day-to-day a lot easier at work - Salesforce likely sees a lot of value in the integration aspect of Slack, as it complements the rest of their business. Honestly, when I first started using Slack I absolutely loved it - something you don't really expect to hear when it comes to anything work-related. Sure, it's a simple communication app, but that simplicity is what got them where they are today - every other option before them (including email) was a lot much complicated. Those Slack customers are also now Salesforce customers in a sense, or at least Salesforce is going to try to push their products/services on them.

Slack is an instant messaging service. It's largely used by businesses and is seen by some companies as an alternative to email.
That's because it's mainly an app of communication for developers and D&T associates. If you don't work within either of these, most likely you'll never have a use for it.
Outlook integrated with Teams will be hard to beat. Salesforce plus slack will be mediocre. If it was Google buying Slack to integrate with Gmail then maybe.
