We cover:
-why tradescantia can get brown leaves or brown spots of their leaves
-how humidity can affect some varieties of Tradescantia
-how temperature can affect some varieties of Tradescantia
-how ventilation and air movement can affect some varieties of Tradescantia
-how over watering can affect some varieties of Tradescantia

😀
Your videos on tradescantia are so helpful!! Thank you so much!
I’m really pleased you’re finding them useful. 😁
My nanouk is doing the same thing! I’m very pleased to find this video!
I hope it helped a little bit, Natalie. 😄
Thanks for the video, finally i know what is the problem with mine.
My pleasure. 👍😀
Even tough plants have their little quirks. We have a zebrina growing on top of a unit in the middle of our kitchen and it is none the worse for the low light etc! In fact it needs cutting back it's so vigorous!
Yeah same here with a Zebrina in a very dark bathroom. It doesn't seem to be affected adversely whatsoever. For succulent relatives they do better out of the sun!
What a great video. I have learned so much in the last few days from you. I have been very bold and pinched my quad cuttings which were growing tall without many leaves in between.. so I’m trusting your judgement haha.
I’d love if you could do a video on compost, best lighting in a house and watering requirements plus fertiliser for the different varieties of trads please? (Apologies if you’ve already done one, I’m working my way through all your videos) . 😊x
Thanks - I hope I can live up to expectations! 🤷♂️ Thanks also for the ideas - I'll add them to my list.
@@Grow_Up_Man55 thanks a lot. Do you top or bottom water also? I'm sure I'm over watering in comparison to to looking at the soil on yours xx
@@mrsdrhux I top water - but only when it's dry. I definitely err on the side of leaving them dry-ish. Especially through winter.
the tricolor looks like callisia repens bianca 💗
I'd never heard of that one. But after some frustrating research, I think they are one and the same plant. There are soooooo many names for all the different hybrids of Tradescantia it soon becomes very confusing.🤷♂️
Thank you Jeff. I’ve had my tri colored one outside on a table on my patio with numerous other plants I’ve had indoors for the winter. All of a sudden I’m seeing brown splotches on the leaves. I’m wondering if it’s getting too much indirect light? There is a roof on my patio, but no sides. Prior to this it was on a table behind a window. I’m taking it back inside for now as I fear it’s getting too much sunlight. Thank you for the video.
I've heard that a sudden exposure to more light can cause issues - but haven't experienced it. I would imagine any plant might need a bit of a 'hardening off' period when going from indoors to outdoors so it's worth a try doing it gradually.
That is a VERY interesting theory on why they turn brown like this 🤔 my flumenesis is doing this and it’s driving me nuts. I’m thinking of buying a long planter box and placing it across so it can grow horizontally based on what you said. What do you think of that?
I wish I could remember what my theory actually was?! 🤣 But yeah definitely - many Trads are scrambling plants rather than climbing or trailing plants. I've grown one in a grow bag horizontally - then hung it vertically - was free of brown leaves for nearly 3 years. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/O2IwlfoatcY/видео.html
@@Grow_Up_Man55 wow watched that video and I’m very inspired. Your theory was that they aren’t meant to trail over but scatter instead and so they start browning
Beautiful colours How they change
Yes they do - I've got several examples of the same hybrid looking very different depending on which situation it's in.
Where you bought this plant
From eBay.😃
My plant is all green hair and it has little white dots all over it. What is that and what should I do?❤
I’d have to see photos. Email them to me. 😃
At what email address
@@patriciaholliday8 I can't write it here or I'll get spammed by bots - just look in my channel's ABOUT tab and you'll find my email address there.
Is this the same as tradescantia fluminensis tricolor?
Yeah that’s the one. It has many synonyms like all Tradescantia do. 😁
@@Grow_Up_Man55 I see, thank you for your reply!
I think the brown spots are just their version of a frowny face caused by your miserable weather. 🤣 "Dang it's cold and there's no sun. Where the heck are we?"
I know that feeling all too well. I’m sure in another life I lived in the Rift Valley.
Or Hawaii
