I love John MacArthur , but, John Calvin was no godly man or hero of christianity. He took credit for the death of his friend Severtus, and was glad to do all he could to have him burned alive. It is easy to find Calvins quotes on this and MANY other people he helped put to death for sins that the bible in no way allows for capital punishment. He was as cold as a physco path and showed absolutely NO LOVE for anyone during his lifetime. I can't understand how MacArthur could be ignorant of this.
Yes Jimbo I did know all those facts. However in the end it was Calvin himself who wrote the words taking credit for the death of Severtus. Calvin also stated before Severtus was arrested that he would make sure Severtus did not leave Geneva alive. He held tremendous sway over who lived and who died. He actually believed he had done God's will by the death of a "heretic". He was instrumental in the deaths of dozens of other innocent people who did not in any way deserve the death penalty. His supporters say he did not have the authority to execute anyone himself. This is only partially true. He was immensly powerful and was considered the "Pope of Geneva". But it was Calvin's own testimony that condemns his actions, as he openly gloated in his role of the killing "heretics". This is no different than what the Catholics did to anyone they considered heretics. No Christian could commit such acts while the Holy Spirit lived in them. I made these conclusions by reading John Calvin's own words. He sounds just like a psycopath. There are other men who deserve credit for the Reformation, but not Calvin the murderer.
