What makes this synth special is its creator, Vladimir Salnikov. He did all the circuitry, all the code, most of the design, and even the manual. And then -- this was extremely unusual -- he spent a year in the Gearspace Forums taking user suggestions and converting the M from a Microwave I replica to a synth which contained ALL of the features of the Microwave I, II, and XT, with a few PPG items thrown in. He kept adding features until he ran out of firmware memory. And even worked with open source developers to build an editor for it.
I love this synth, it was love at first sound, like with the Take-5, the OB-6, the Telepathy bundle, the Alpha Base and the NYX... A gut feeling you can't explain.
Best sounding hybrid synth in production, i prefer the M character more than other Waldorf’s also to 3dwave and UDO. Waldorf M is so deep and emotional wish this would have had sampling capabilities snd would have been perfect
Ditto.. Best hybrid since the ESQ-1 and oh MW1... Something magical about the digital waves into bubbling analog VCA and filters.. The DSI Evolver is another worthy partner to this club..
This is clearly a very fine instrument. I'm pretty sure I couldn't get as much out of it as Paulee Bow can, though. I'm more tempted by the Iridium as a digital synth that I could spend many years exploring; but this really puts my head in a spin!
Sounds awesome! So many viewers call it overpriced but - this is a very good and much cheaper alternative to the Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave and does not only come with lots great PPG sounds but is also something like a "Best-of-Microwaves-Synth". And I might be wrong but I don't think the 3rd Wave can do these characteristic asic bug sounds. Also all the digital filter models from the Microwave XT... Not cheap but great value for money non the less imho.
There are much more beautiful saturation points than just the asic bug. There is derez, analog vca overdrive, wavefolding, noise modulating anything, audio rate modulating oscillators with a looping free or wave eg, fm filters. So many ways to get dusty particulate out of this thing. It’s really a magical synth And it’s only overpriced in the U.S. because of Korg distribution’s added markup. You can buy outside of America for the actual price which is about $1000 cheaper
@@christdolphin69 Yes, thanks for adding that! I just mentioned the asic bug because it is such a unique and characteristic feature I wouldn't want to miss. I'm in Gernany and bought one second hand, so really can't complain about the price. I'm thinking about getting the voice expansion when it's available again...
was thinking quite a bit about it, but finally decided on the Super6. Still a synth with loads of character and depth. It seems that even longer waveforms (like on the PPG plugin) can be loaded, but it s quite poorly documented.
@@Ennuae You could easily just buy a Korg, Arturia, or something even from Sequential....but honestly I thought it was gonna be like 3 grand+ knowing Waldorf, so it is cheaper than I expected....not a bad buy. but my current car cost about the same.
I am sorry that WM still trying produce it in Germany, giving the job for subcontractors, german PCB producers. I am really sorry that WM have to charge 15 hundreds, trying to pay all taxes, good salaries and staying profitable in harsh modern economic conditions. And I am extremely sorry that synth community still can't cope the simple fact that UB is not investing into development, just copying old ideas endlessly, not paying for R&D as Waldorf Music does. It is really bad, that Waldorf M has aluminium knobs instead of cheap plastic, which are decomposing after several years (I have a couple of such synths with sticky knobs). BTW, I am personally as contracting developer for Waldorf Music pay the taxes from the money, which I receiving for this job. And, to allow the development, I am charging lowest possible hour rate for it (which is really, really bad), just to give a chance or better to say, possibility for the future M improvements. Please, try to think through this with no emotions. It is how the thing run under the modern circumstances, nothing less, nothing more. 🖖Live long and prosper, all of you.

Good taste. The take-5 and the M are my all time favorite synths that I’ve owned
Teo-5 looks like it’s gonna be a classic as well
same here, alpha base best sounding drum machine and waldorf m best sounding synth
That filter is amazing, and those sampled patches sound SO lush!

100% better sounding than the iridium and the super 6

Great demo Paulee. So much nice pads chords
that choir patch reminded of Pet Shop Boys West End Girls ha nice 🤘✨

We need a keyboard version! I’d buy that in a heartbeat
Yep, there's never been a Microwave keyboard with analog filters. The XTK is the closest we've got.
Love these sounds. I already have a MW1 though. But still... very tempting.
I love these "5 Minutes with" video's and the reviews by Nick Batt.

Wow! Thems are some good sounds.
I’m hoping the pie in the sky synth: Carbon8 will scratch this particular itch. But will it crust..
The digital filters in the M are wonderful
I don't like em. The analog filter is better IMO
@@supercompooper in combination for the win imo
Perfection
That TFF Sound was a fairlight on the recording.Which Table did you use?
It’s simply the original Fairlight sample, that in converted to the right format for the M to play back 😊
By Jove, those filter sweeps!
By Jovian actually!

64kb sample time? Could have stretched to a couple of Mb's at least. Looks good otherwise
I love this synthesizer....just wish it was more affordable.
Korg USA - Waldorf's US distributor was blowing them out for $1350 US. An offer I couldn't refuse.
Waldorf Wavetable on a budget?... get yourself a Blofeld
@@BlackMan614 when this happened?? :(
Walldwarf!!!
How is this different from iridium?
More gritty sound, Analog filters
Super cool synth, but too expensive. 🤷♂
@neolepic I see them at $2400+tax etc. I might buy one if they were $1.5
