Fav places to eat... Shakey's Pizza! I can still, at 62, get full on mouth-watering hangry for their chicken and mojos (they were potatoes cut into simple thick and yummy slices and fried in oil) they fried their chicken in a large pressure fryer! It was so moist and delicious. As a kid, we would go maybe once a month and my parents would have pizza and I would get the chicken! They would let me have some of their pizza, too! I loved the food and the music, too! They had a piano player and banjo picker on the weekends! They played old standards and fun newer songs (60s to early 70s) and had the words on the screen with a bouncing ball that landed over the word when it was time to sing that word. It was a fun way to learn to read, as a little girl!
Myers' Fried chicken... a locally owned restaurant, in Amarillo, Tx. Their chicken was good and children got a chicken leg in a thick paper boat (it was shaped like a boat and had the image of a boat on the outside of the paper) with mashed potatoes and yellow gravy and green beans. I would love their recipe for that delicious yellow gravy! They had a train track that was hung from the ceiling and a train with the engine, several train cars and a caboose at the end (of course) that travelled around the dining rooms (there were several) and it came around about every 5 minutes. (It was a large restaurant!) Those were the days!!!
A little later, we got a restaurant called Alfie's Fish and Chips. My daddy loved to go there and so did I. He was born and raised in the Shenendoah Valley in Virginia. Amarillo, Tx was not known for a wide variety of fresh fish! Haha!!! Daddy said it was the best fish he had eaten since they were in San Antonio during WWII. That is where he and my mother met. She worked at the draft board and he was a 1st Sargeant in the Army Air Corp. My mother was from the Texas panhandle and moved back to stay with her family after my daddy was sent off to India. Now, see what a long line of love you started with that question about food?❤️😋 It does have a magical way of triggering good memories! Thanks for that!
Western Sizzler (original name then shortened to Sizzler) gets honorable mention. Occasionally when I spent the night with my best friend, her parents would take us there after church on Sunday! It wasn't the best steak (that honor was and will always go to my daddy!) but it was good and a nice place to enjoy "fancy" dining (for this pre-teen to early teenage girl, anyway)
Love your channels and will mention Back of the House on the video I watched yesterday. Sorry about the dog incident. Pets are the best and bring so much joy. They do come with their own special idiosyncrasies. Gotta take a little bad with all the good! My little boy was a rescue. He's a whopping 10 lb pommeranian and he loves me. He is a good boy but I truly am his emotional support human. He has seizures occasionally. (He had one last night, in fact) and he sticks to me, like glue. He absolutely barks when I go off and leave him, for a long time before giving up and laying by the door until I return. I would take him with me more places but ppl want to pet him and he wouldn't hurt them but he doesn't like them. He only has eyes for me! He won't even do anything for my husband! He loves him and will enjoy a pet from him but he just loves me and only me!❤️🤣 They aren't with us for long. Every minute spent in anger towards them is a minute lost in their short lifetimes. I try to remember that when the occasional oopsie happens.
Okay, I've finished my book, now!
    Blessings from the Texas panhandle!😘

Hope you are having the best time on your trip this summer. Soak it all in and enjoy the cheese to the fullest. I like the way you handle things in not saying the brand name of the cheese you had because you didn’t like it in particular and didn’t want to put them in a bad light.

As soon as caitin said Sizzlers ... I still remember the day i went to deliver the swiss rolls with pink cream ( i owned a bakery) and they were already 3 months behind in payments.
You used to have to put the stock in a dumb waiter to get it to restaraunt level.. and of course when you get there where is the waiter ?? at the top climb 4 sets of stairs from carpark to restaurant level press the down button go down all the stairs open door ...... 15 doz oysters !!!! 🤔🤔🤔 Remove oysters insert swiss rolls ..... I was thinking Sizzler and was still thinking about others when ALAS - what did Kaitlyn say? "SIZZLER" 🤷‍♀️ How the heck did that happen? 🤣
And last time when I think Andy mentioned KMart and they closed down the stragglers in 2020 just 1 month before Covid restrictions!
Not a cauliflower lover but I watched the whole video bc this channel is terrific. I do adore a Butternut squash soup, Carrot and New England clam chowder. So, if you're on soup binge 😅 however we are having a heat wave so please intersperse some great sandwiches. I just made cucumber sandwiches. You know, the cream cheese and dill type. I eat zero tuna bc of mercury but I love canned salmon in its place. Some ideas would interest me but that may not fit your genre, IDK. AND please keep singing kitchen tips with Andy ❤ I love it.

Absolutely hilarious episode. Cracked us up. Katelyn...."you need an uber". LOL She was lovin' the wine before the taping even began. You go girl! LOL More episodes with you two together please. LOL
    A couple of comments/suggestions.
LOVE this soup and will be doing it soon as the chilly weather continues here in Melbourne. Canadian here, recently moved here last year.
    1. A fab local white wine to go with this? Jack Rabbit from the Bellarine region - Pino Grigio. Light, fresh and won't compete with the stronger flavours of the cheese, bacon and herbs. At $32 bucks a bottle, won't break the bank. Support local!!
    2. A fab local red - The Musician Cabernet Shiraz from Majella of the Coonawarra region. A steal at $20/bottle. When I was in Canada, working for one of the top law firms in Canada, this was our major partner's fave wine from Australia. Went for $70 bucks a bottle in most high end eateries there. Yes...makes one laugh on the mark up in the Canadian market, but hey, it's a good Aussie wine. I can see this going very well with this comfort soup.
    3. IGA/K-Mart. These are still huge in Canada. I remember growing up in the 80's in British Columbia's far north. IGA was the major supermarket there at the time. IGA still has a huge market share in Canada. K-mart still has a few stores there, but not a big as they were in the 80's/90's.
Side note, love the wine glasses. They look like Riedel, but had a looksee online, and can't find them. Brand please? 😉😉

READ THIS, sorry it's long: for me school lunches are nostalgic af lol they had the best food that don't exist anywhere else but in those school cafeterias and i'm not in school anymore and lunches have changed overtime. i have a little sister who is 11 and we've talked abt that. i think that's nostalgic to me. the lunches in schools. i was little and hungry af lol i don't know if that counts but it's not around for me anymore. i'm 25 and old af to be in line for some school lunch 😂😂🤣 i remember the foam pinkish trays they'd put it in. def getting that nostalgia now.
there was also this small little Peruvian joint in a corner and i used to go there a lot as a kid. their food was good and their sauces were amazing. it's not there anymore which is sad because it really BEATS all other Peruvian chicken places. my family and i would go there all the time. i swear it is the best Peruvian i have ever had and i have been to so many others and it's just not the same. it was like the real deal like you were in Peru. and y'all after so many years of looking for their sauce and wanting it i literally made it at home and i was not intending to but it turned out so SIMILAR to theirs and i literally had to write down what i put in that sauce so i don't forget and lose it again forever lol i literally have it in my notes. anyway, i'm glad i got to figure out the sauce but yea i miss that place. it was a childhood throwback for sure. i wish i could go in there one more time and sit inside and show them their sauce that i made LOL after literally a decade of searching for it. Chef Andy would be proud of me for making that sauce that was hard to find but i ended up making it myself. like last month literally. what are your thoughts chef? can you congratulate me 😂😂😂 it was a struggle sauce to find, let alone make it. did i earn a degree chef? thank you chef. love you chef. loool

I wondered if anyone else would say Shakey's Pizza! I can still get mouth-watering hungry for their chicken and mojos! Oh! The pain of not being able to get that fix! Their pizza was amazing, too. I'm in my 60s and remember them, as a child, having a piano and banjo player and they had the words on a screen, with a bouncing ball that followed the words of the song. I was learning to read and it was a very fun way to learn new words to fun old songs! My brother's (10 years older than me) 1st job was playing the banjo at Shakey's! He bought one and learned to play it, just so he could work there's and play music for a job. He was 15, at them time, and has played music for a living, ever since. He has played with Michael Martin Murphey for the past 42 years! He is also a southwestern artist, of renown, Gary Roller-Western Artist on FB and garyroller.studio on insta. If you are interested.
Oh, and there are still a few Shakey's around on the west coast and in Arizona. I haven't done it, yet, but one day I might get out that way and stop by one! 😋

But it’s not just about street food, Sicilian cuisine has loads of traditional dishes, especially with seafood (think pasta con le sarde, sarde a beccafico, pasta con il nero di seppia, and spaghetti con i ricci di mare) and vegetarian options (like Parmigiana di melanzane, caponata, and pasta alla norma).
There’s also a ton of great cheeses (mostly from sheep’s milk) and cured meats, especially around the Mt Etna area. Don’t miss out on the local salami or coppa made from maiale nero dei Nebrodi.
And then there are the desserts and sweets. You’ve got to try cannoli and cassata. In the summer, gelo di mellone and granita (more common in the Catania area) are super refreshing, and of course, there’s always gelato.
In the Etna area, you'll find many great wineries (Graci, Frank Cornelissen, Tenute Bosco, Barone di Villagrande, and Santa Maria La Nave). However, Sicily boasts excellent wineries across the island. If you have the chance to explore the Marsala area, you'll discover exceptional wines, including the renowned Marsala wine, also try some sweet Passito or grab a refreshing glass of Etna Bianco or Grillo.
I’d love to share some of my favorite spots in Palermo and the Etna areas. You’ll find everything from rustic joints to fancy places, and great spots for gelato and street food. Here are a few:

There was a chain of shops in Sydney in the 70's / 80's that made nothing but pavlovas (they had one outlet in Kensington). For the life of me I can't remember the name of them, but it was our Saturday night treat for many years.

When we were in Taormina the most we paid for a MT Etna region wine in a restaurant was 20 Euros. Katelyn have you had Masi Campofiorin? Our favorite Italian red. Restaurant chains in US no longer around Howard Johnson’s - Jacques Pepin was their head chef! Andy we’ll definitely try making your soup- we don’t have an immersion blender though.😢

When I first moved to Sydney about 15 years ago there was a fantastic German restaurant in Beverly Hills. My flatmate & I used to go there for schweineshaxe and sauerkraut. They closed in 2018 😞😭 after operating there for 34 years. I miss it and I don't know of another place like it

That cheese is blue castello as far as i can tell. Just like a brie with little tastes of not great bloom through it. Nice for beginners to blue.

Really enjoying your show look forward to it every Sunday. Just a question for Andy, what does he think of RUclips shorts? I wish shorts were banned from RUclips they should be for instagram. I hate how when I go to subscription’s it’s full of every body’s shorts. On RUclips I’d rather it just be videos. Keep up the great work & looking forward to more outdoor cooking videos.

    Couple interesting tidbits about Kmart:
The store began in the US in the late 19th century, under a different name, “Kresge’s”. In the early 1960s, it rebranded to Kmart, and then a few years later Kmart Australia was founded by the company who owned Kmart US. Eventually, Kmart went pretty much defunct here thanks to the rise of Walmart and Target. They have 6 stores in the United States and its territories, and an online store. Meanwhile Kmart Australia is flourishing with hundreds of stores and is now owned and operated by a different parent company.

animals are not human, they are ecosystem components, like a part of an engine, a carburetor, or an air filter, or a spark plug that performs a particular function to make the engine work, and that's all an animal is, however much we love to humanize them
