I can’t believe that my favourite mall in Winnipeg is now my least favourite mall in both Winnipeg and the world. IMAX (one of my favourite places in Winnipeg. Lots of good memories), kaput! Globe Cinema, kaput! Fountain geyser, kaput! Half the businesses, kaput! Tones of rough people use this mall making it also unsafe. Remembering the good old days of the mall and seeing how it is these days makes it very depressing.
There is a TV show called The Holiday Shift that was filmed at the mall this summer. From the preview I saw, it makes the mall look like a decent mall.
This is like stepping into a time machine, my mom used to always take me to this mall and I remember when every store was opened and most weren't abandoned. It was connected to the YMCA and many other places. Unfortunately since it's in the center of Winnipeg and beside many notorious dangerous neighborhoods, this mall would always attract unwanted attention which could possibly be why it's in the state it's in now. I just wanted to see how it changed since I last seen it about 8 or 9 years ago and it definitely did change alot in terms of popularity and seems to be on the verge of being an abandoned mall
i don't know if portage place is the same cause i haven't been there in 10+years but when i was going their there was so many drug dealers that uncover police walked the mall and cars got stolen outta the parking lot daily. i remember once when i had a interview i got a tour of the staff area and the cameras were monitor by police it was a pretty awful place.
It’s gotten worse. The closing of IMAX and Globe Cinema has been very detrimental to the mall. Because of this the ordinary Winnipeger almost never comes here anymore and now it is largely rough people who hang out here. Most businesses are empty these days. It is a ghost town.

I don't think much has changed. As I was leaving a guy was trying to fight security. Police showed up and escorted him out of the mall.
