I’m not doing the arena thing. When I’m making limited decks that are 20+ mana of my 40
Cards and having to mulligan 2-3 times 75% of the time in their 750 gem limited stuff, why am I giving them 5000 gems for the “privilege” of watching my horrible luck get me obliterated by turn 4 2 games in a row. I’m sorry, but I did the math…my % chance of my last game (had to mulligan 4 times to get a single land, the deck is 22 mana 14 creatures 4 spells) happening was less than 1%. They need to see what is going on with their code, because since the MH3 launch my win rate has been below 10% and my mulligan rate is so astronomical I would buy a lotto ticket…but clearly my luck is so bad the machine would catch fire and blow out the window of the 7-11 and set my car on fire.
The fact that Wizards reaponse to Bowmasters being "we'll just increase the toughness of everything going forward" should have made the player base flip tables because of the amount of cards that get hosed by this decision, yet no one did and most player are still on their knees looking up sayiing "more daddy" is appalling. These decisions have ruind this game.
To be fair, the basis of this sentiment has been an issue in magic for 20 years. It's not always been bowmasters, but there's always been something or some decision that's left most the player base feeling like this. Anyone that disagrees either has played long enough, or never happened to be on the wrong side of the decisions before.
OMG, unless MTGA explicitly states that there is no shuffling or match making modifications it will not be worth it to attempt to play for the booster box.
They don't need to say anything. People have run tests and proved there are. Just learn the system and play around it and you'll be fine.

Yeah, i just got back into standard since the 90s and its super fun! I get to play the sets and decks I like for 3 years. Before, I’d have to buy tons of cards and change my deck like every 3 months, couldnt keep up

WotC got rid of MSRP so they could enter the direct-to-consumer market though Amazon fulfillment. The two announcements occured within 60 days of each other, IIRC.
Here is a protip for buying new sealed Magic cards. If product wholesale cost is hundred of dollars more than the price offered, you are 99.99% getting scammed. Anyone trying to pay $200 for a product that has a cost of $350 to LGS locations is thinking, "Boy, I'm really getting one over on these morons. They must have priced it wrong, so let me take advantage of this." Funny thing, that is what the seller is also thinking except they are the one that is right.

That first segment sounds like they’re going for a booster lottery. Meaning that only a few will actually win the box while they rack up money from the losers.

lol that’s why I avoid most of them. I’ve gotten about 3 or 4 consecutive wins during the drafts but always hit bad mana pulls or unplayable cards, after the 3rd or fourth win. This is a physical prize that we’re talking about, so it probably be worse than normal
Not really, Sealed events are 100% luck of the drawn bombs.
The greatest drafter in the world with a bad opening can get smoked by a middle of the road player with a great opening.
I didn’t play, but I watched the OTJ prerelease at my LGS. I called the two winners by the time I’d drifted around the room to see who got what in their prerelease bundle.

The cost of printing some ink is truly the same
But not all sets cost the same to make aside from the ink and paper itself. For example, Mystery Booster costed next to nothing to make.
If they want to price it higher for whatever reason ok, but no MSRP price is freaking ridiculous
Fallout isn't a set, is a series of preconstructed decks.
For the universes beyond ones, there is also the cost of the IP license.
Licenses are a thing, fallout cost money upfront just them to just be able to do, let alone the normal printing costs. They won’t make profit from that set if they don’t price it higher. They should not all cost the same since not all sets cost the same to make.
I just finished tracking 500 games of Magic on Arena over two weeks, and my percentage of games where I went first was 38.6%. You’d have to be fucking INSANE to think I would spend a fucking DIME on anything in Arena when I’m GUARANTEED to be playing at a disadvantage. Fuck Arena.
I get that on Master Duel too. I can't think what would be causing it except that it's a punishment for surrendering.
Play higher CMC cards like the double faced lands. I switch my green devotion up and added 4 turn timber symbiosis and 4 disciple of freylise and now I go first almost every game it feels like. At least over 60-70% of the time.
They better deal with the algorithm first. They aren't using different algorithms for each format. What people found out about Brawl is the same for each format....
I can tell you they will make sure not too many people will go 6-0 with all the mechanisms available.
Im from Brazil. Maybe we see mtg standart diferently down here. I see ZERO demand for a ready to Go deck. The thing we do here is Just use some friends deck until we are confortable enough to enter de game...
That's how it is in healthy play groups in the US, most people here just can't socialize anymore. Back when I was 14-15 I borrowed legacy decks from friends until I won enough to get my own. It was expected to help your friends out because it ultimately helps your play group out when more people have more decks to share for bigger events.
My only local "Magic Shop" just closed; the only ones still standing would rather kill their Hasbro rep than kiss 'em right now. When it takes an hour to reach a Commander night consistently you know a game is going "great".
Most game stores struggle to stay open longer than 5-7 years regardless of how individual games are doing. They aren't a very profitable business. I'm not sure where you're located, but for the majority of magics history a 1hr drive to an event has been pretty common. Back when DCI was around before Planeswalker points people drove 2-3 hours to our FNM's and we had 90-130 players every pre release, saturday event, etc

Standard/magic is doing so bad; one of my lgs's ( the only one with a large quantity of standard singles in multiple showcases ) has almost completely gotten rid of standard singles in their store and now has only one smaller showcase with highly played modern/commander singles in it. Magic is still kind of hanging on there, but the store has started putting flesh and blood,lorcana, pokemon, and one piece cards into showcases
Standard is crap and Wizards of the Coast literally does not care. They’re divesting heavy into Commander and all else be damned.
Same, Pokemon is doing very well right now, MTG and Yugioh are both struggling to keep shelf space. The only MTG product really available to me nowadays is pre-constructed decks.

Blame WotC for your formats dying.
EDH is the only Constructed format where the prices of top-end decks are even remotely sane.
Needing playsets of 35-50$ cards makes a format like Modern the next thing to Legacy these days.
I’m lucky enough to have 4 LGSs in my area, and one of them folded to the screeching of a few vocal Modern players to bring back a Modern night, so they did that on first Wednesday, then Sunday afternoon.
Surprise, surprise. Like 7 whales showed up to play Modern, and 8 other people elected to play EDH on the floor rather than accept the offer to borrow decks from the Modern guys.
I think beyond the expense issue is that now there’s a huge % of MtG players who have never had to deal with the restrictions of a proper Meta, due to their only experience being with regular EDH, and it’s a difficult sell to get those players to embrace a format with a single-digit # of decks that absolutely dominate.
It really reminds me of an old GURPS supplement called Bunnies & Burrows and I am here for it.

$270 for an mh3 play box means $7 packs off tcgplayer.
If i have 3 lgs by me and with ranging prices of $9, $12, & $12.50 per pack then that is vastly different.
Of course with the store at the highest price, also doing NO BOX PRICE so you pay $450 frickin dollars for a play box!
There needs to be msrp for one, and second there is a thing as being a bad business owner (too many employees, not sorting cards, not being online, etc) or not having a good distribution relationship.
Not have any bans is pushing players to commander or other games.

Use a visa too, it's almost like they enjoy screwing over businesses. You can sign a "no refund" form and they'll still just take the money back for you and let you keep the product.

I am tired of these so-called leaks where the photos are terrible. Todays cell phones take high quality photos. While MH3 is a very good set, Wizards keeps reprinting good cards where there is hardly any value in a lot of good cards. Wizards wants it both ways where they have very EXPENSIVE box prices where most of the cards value has gone down on the secondary market. It's PAY MORE FOR LESS! They obviously can't ban anything from MH3 (Nadu, Ral) bcs the set is still in print.

You dont even need to finish explaining, people have been doing that scam on Ebay since tthose '1 pack ' boxes were first sent out to Walmart and Target, couple years back! 😅 I fell for it 1st time, but realized it before they shipped they pretended like they were just a reseller and had no Idea😂😂😂
People have credit cards. Use your bank's protection if amazon cannot help you quickly.
Credit card =/= bank card. They'll help you if it's THEIR money (credit card), but if it's YOUR money (debit card) you'll probably have to wait for Amazon.

People just cry "ban!" Too much these days. We used to never see bans and the game felt healthier back then because of it.

They're just bonkers broken and needed to be banned for the health of the game; bans themselves aren't hurting the game, printing cards that need to later be banned just to sell boxes to Timmy's is what's hurting the game.

The tied part is worse because it shows the issues in their ranking system math is flawed and easily taken advantage of with draws and how it shafts the opponents tievreakers
Gift's wording is suspicious. If 'Gift' means 'opponent makes the gifted thing', then 'a tapped Fish' must mean 'a tapped 1/1 blue Fish token'. But that's not what it says. So something about the Gift keyword means that 'a tapped Fish' should be read 'a tapped 1/1 blue Fish token'. Does Gift have a pre-set lookup table of gits such that "a Fish" always means a specific thing, and "an Elephant" always means a specific other thing? Or are gifted things always 1/1 blue creature tokens of a certain creature type?
Have to love much of the sentiment in because there is just so much to HATE on. I knew I first parted with MtG around the time "modern" sets were getting released because I didn't like the standard rotation wanting to shake things. At the time Extended was almost like an eternal format as well but it was about to undergo its first (next?) rotation killing half the cards I owned!
More than a decade later I picked up a few cards and a few more. Sure a lot of power creep on creatures but it was fun to upgrade some of my old decks with "modern" cards even if they weren't super competitive. Of course that didn't last and now we've got more rotation again.
Standard has all the issues it has always had when it comes to chasing the cycle although it's worse when they think they need to introduce cards to it that can shake up the so called legacy formats.
In some was Pioneer is what Modern used to be except of course for the smaller card pool. Pretty easy to see WotC creating that as the spiritual successor to Modern and what they were going to do to completely destroy it and turn it into a new rotating format. Heck, I almost wonder if it wouldn't be easier to play Legacy except that besides all the print to stir/destroy modern with some new Modern Legal set they do Legacy also has to look at all the Commander only BOMBS that were never intended for 60 card formats.
If/when Modern horizons would just add "old" cards to the pool that was something ok although it might run afoul of the restricted list. Is there a creature on the Restricted List that would be a problem today? Some of the spells maybe but it looks like they're just figuring out ways to get around them if they want to.

You should do it the other way around. Put a code into every pack for arena.
Why? Because your locals will pay the Price! You get a box for free! so you dont buy another one and who sells them your locals.

wotc is such a garbage company. they claim that no decks in alchemy and historic are broken cause the win percentage isnt worrysome in any decks.... well, thats cause of your garbage rigged matchmaking. ive seen the new cat deck 2 out of 3 games for the past 30 games or so. i put in 4 boardwhipes and suddenly, no cat decks at all. only seeing belcher every other game and other combo decks, but no creature decks anymore.
if you rigg the matchmaking to such a degree, how can you give ANY reliable statement about the win percentage of any deck?
I stopped playing mtg competetively around 2019, because they screwed the old system, wiped all my planeswalker points and shift everything towards buggy bo1 interaction skip auto tap crap arena. Mtgo at least tries to mimic the game we play physically with cards, but still so disrespectful what happened in the last couple years for in person play.
I have been playing since day 1 release of Alpha. I took a short break between 8th and Morningtide, but have otherwise been playing non-stop since I was 12. I have some ludicrously expensive cards, but I don't play this game for the money investment like, say, Rudy does. About 2 years ago, I switched to full proxies. I'm sick and tired of WotC's business practices, and I'm sick and tired of the secondhand market. WotC is going to tank this game so hard in the coming years, and they've already started. This isn't the game I grew up with anymore. It's a flaming dumpster going down the highway trying to grab as much cash as it can before it crashes and burns.

If you have a problem with Modern, there's a format called Premodern. If you want to use new cards but not spend an arm and a leg chasing down rares and mythics, there's a format called Pauper. Modern is looking more and more like Standard, so we'll see if this MH3 forced rotation makes Modern a lot worse. Easy exit is to start playing Pauper.
Then they'd just start selling into pauper by creating "common-but-not-really" short-printed power cards. They'd add powerful new commons to the bonus sheet or something.

it feels like game design philosophy is gone in so many things like this and like Overwatch 2. i loved that game but now it feels like the people who designed the trees in the background are now the ones doing hero balancing. and it feels similar here. im a new player, i started in phyrexia all will be one, and i fucking hate the way this shits going. we pre banned the eldrazi deck from our tables, the nonstop "need" for removal is exhasting when im playing a fucking chronatog deck against people who use the urdragon balefire dragon decks and have 15 removal cards and play to win and ignore how everyone feels at the table.

I mean you should have removal in your decks. Interaction is one of the most important things to include in a deck. Plus there are control decks, decks built specifically at slowing and stopping their opponents game plan.
The underlying issue you have seems to be that your deck isn’t as strong as your opponents. There are many ways to go about this, like upgrading your deck, asking if they could tone down their decks or find a new playgroup.

I don’t like some of the people I play with and I don’t like how they’ve gone about designing cards over the past few years. The fact you think I am “forcing myself” to play a game I “don’t like” this is insane. I speak like this because im passionate, and it’s people like you who actively make the game worse for people. Sorry I don’t like my commander getting spot removed every game when I’m playing fucking a howling abomination deck. Well, it would be exciting to win a MH3 box, but because we all know the game is rigged, I guess I'll just pass this "opportunity". It would surprise me that "casually" after having my fourth win, I suddenly start to have hands with only lands or no lands at all in the following games, so I can never achieve the fifth win.
There's things you can do to remedy this and take advantage of the hand smoothing.
I admit arena can be extreme about the no land/flooded land games, but bad hands happen in paper too.
Use double faced lands and it'll be way more consistent for you.
I wish we would just start calling it what it is: Modern **Rotation** 3

Im sick of unbalanced cards on arena and alchemy shit is allowed in historic. This lazy pos company needs to balance all formats and commander outside of arena needs a new ban list update.
As an Amazon worker. We do print out the ASIN sometimes and put it on the product. I can promise you this happens too much.
I would really like a yugioh styled banlist. Aggressive and a means to shake things up. Instead of this open ended heeheehaha money grubber bs.
If they could design sets that don't require bans to be considered for non rotating formats, that would signify an improvement in card design and health of the game's future.
Yugioh banlist isn't aggressive at all, every tier 1 deck is given the opportunity to be reprinted twice before it gets banned; first reprint wave in high rarity to sell to people slower on the uptake, second reprint wave in low rarity to sell to casual players, then banned shortly after to push the next tier 1 archetype.

Wow a whole box for six wins…..to bad the game is rigged. Played arena for four years keeping track of opening hands,match ups, and more I found several inconsistencies or in this case consistency. Certain cards show up in your opening hand than others and opponents you play after your deck wins 5-6 games suddenly your up against decks seemingly designed to beat your deck back to reality. I called them out on an email and received the response. “There is no issues with Arena and it runs exactly the way devs intended. So they admit the game is designed to give you an uphill battle if you’re not an approved streamer.
They Otter give us better leak images.

Bloomburrow is definitely looking pushed, and that's not pleasing. I just want a fun Standard, without so many busted cards. I don't play Yugioh for a reason.

Parting Gust is one of the coolest cards I've seen. Being a blink or removal is a neat modular effect.
I agree, the mana cost is just too low in my opinion. As it stands, it's basically an objectively better version of white's existing removal that's also more flexible, all while being uncommon while the others have been rare.

While I love the idea of playing arena and getting real Magic cards I don’t know if I agree it’s a positive if the barrier to entry is 5000 gems. That’s over $30 in the US per entry. That’s for only 6 packs & you very well might get hosed with what you pull. I understand the prize is valuable but like everything in Arena it’s too much.
Arena is so much cheaper for constructed than paper it's just crazy. For limited id suggest paper, but otherwise you can outright purchase every meta deck in an arena format for less than a single deck in paper.
Plus if you truly love playing magic, you can play so much more magic on arena. Instead of 5-10 games a week you can play hundreds of games a day.
You are right about it being cheaper than paper and I agree about it being a good outlet to play more of the game we love. However this goes towards my bigger issue with Arena. I don’t mean to sound like the average mtg critic on a soap box but they are far too greedy with how they disseminate rewards and the system for getting rares/mythics to build decks is out of pocket. Yes it’s cheaper than building decks in paper but you can still easily spend hundreds of dollars decks and cards that only exist in the Arena universe. If anything happens to the app over time or wizards decides to make some change affecting your collection there’s nothing to do about it. I would argue more people would play the game if there was a cheaper barrier to entry. We already know the paper version is far too expensive. I feel arena should be more accessible for people to build decks and play around.
@@alexdemonet it's not too bad, I built a basic version of green devotion for historic after about two weeks of free grind, used that to win more packs for upgrades. I think I'm in it maybe 200$ total and I've got 6 decks with good win rates that I enjoy playing across 2 formats
You're right about the lack in exit value, but that exists for all digital games these days so it doesn't bother me as much.

It's so weird how people treat bans these days. Back in the day there would be uproar that something got banned at all. Most ban announcements went like this "we're keeping an eye X card, but we want to wait and see."

Tbh I don’t think your assessment of standard is super fair. The format is friggin AWESOME and will only get better as we move into sets designed for the longer rotation
But remember that you're talking as someone who likes standard; your perspective is failing to recognise the problems that other people have in it, same way they're failing to recognise what you enjoy about it. And more importantly, people aren't given the ability to find out whether they like standard before they invest a bunch of money in it, so whether standard is good or bad, it's going to struggle to grow its player-base if people who don't already play it think it's bad.
