they have fixed spawning locations, but appear randomly. If that makes sense

@@AndrewLaird-uu3kg It's more like... they always have fixed locations where they will spawn. But they won't always appear in that location, sometimes that location will be empty.

I think it changes about every hour (real time) so maybe set a timer on your phone or something :)

how can i get it to be daytime?? i always have it in night missions

if you look at the floating Navigation panel at the front of your ship, it tells you how long to wait for night/day cycle. This is how long in real time

You can also use the synthesis scanner to get additional daily standing credit.
