@@ModernHam I always say there's an opportunity to learn when operating portable. There's just so many variables. But i think that's what makes it fun--trying new things and overcoming different challenges.
Make sure that you get at least 10 contacts for a POTA activation! (4 is for SOTA), but even more important that you get out and have a great time, which it looks like you did!🎉 Thanks for the great video!
@@ModernHam Awesome to see you out doing POTA! Great job getting out there and trying new things. Every time you go out you will learn more. What to bring, what not to bring, what you can do better and what works for you. Every situation is different too (I'm know you are well aware of this already!) and can and will require different equipment. No matter how many or how few contacts you make for POTA, always upload your log to the POTA database. The contacts still count for hunters and activators. The only difference as an activator is if you don't make 10 contacts, you don't "activate" the park. Doesn't matter. The contacts are more important. Hope to see you out again! 73
I've talked to Matt on the Life Free and Ham podcast. Nice guy. I haven't tried that EFHW yet, but the cost is a deterrent to buying it when the Xtenna is only $65 on Etsy.
Yeah those look a bit larger. I think this was meant to compete with the pactenna/k6ark lightweight and small efhw market (with this having protection from the elements). But you're right, those do look a bit cheaper after you factor in the wire, so long as you don't mind all the exposed components.
Great video as always and good job on the activation. Looks like 10 watts did great on SSB. I just activated my first park last weekend on the Xiegu g90. I wanted to activate it with my trusdx on 5w but little hesitant to activate a park on SSB with that low of power.
@ModernHam After starting with SOTA, I did the same thing on my first POTA, too 😆 Don't feel bad... I hope to catch you P2P or S2S sometime! Happy Holidays 🎄

Yup, those portable POTA videos are pretty cool, especially if you threw in a Raspberry Pi and did FT8 with a tablet. I might try that soon.
Glad you liked it! I'll try and do more.
Can't go wrong with more POTA and antennas, LOL. Glad to see that EFHW work out well--I only recently heard of them.
I'm gonna have to take some lessons from your channel. It doesn't go so smoothly for me off camera when I try portable lol.

I like the POTA videos! Nice little EFHW!
Thanks! I actually only just found out I needed 10 contacts instead of 4. Woops. I'll get it next time.

Today I learned! Thanks for the info.

Yeah, even 10w took me longer to get through than I'm used too. Glad you liked the video!
I noticed the radio had a XIT (transmit) offset of 40Hz was that by design?
I see that now too on the swr graph. I'm nto sure.
@@ModernHamPls check it it might make it harder to make QSO's if not on purpose! 😀
the audio is -8.2dB
Nice work, Billy 👏
I love my SOTA/POTA EFHW antennas! 4 is SOTA, POTA is 10 QSOs.
Yeah unfortunately I didn't find out until someone let me know in the comments.
