    I have never watched a Edward G Robinson movie I didn't love. He made some good radio shows as well.

    Anything by Fritz Lang is worthy of my time to watch and MB space to save to all my devices.

    For me the girl is actually the definition of a femme fatale. Amazing movie.

      hmm.. maybe, though are femme fatales influenced and even controlled by a stronger man? I think of them as rogue entities, with their own plans. her character is certainly related if nothing else. thanks for your comment.

    I really like this one. The three leads (Robinson, Bennett, and Duryea) are all terrific. Duryea in particular plays such a rat in this movie that the viewer is glad the character gets the fate he does. The last scene is utterly shattering.

    I saw this movie on TV as a child, and the ice pick scene completely traumatized me!
    Also, I've now seen this movie at least 3 times (twice as an adult), and I've never once picked on the pimp/working girl relationship of Johnny and Kitty. Mind Blow!!!!!

    Perfect film. Like "Of Human Bondage" with more evil and skilled writing and master director. So many touches...The knife on the table as Edward G. reads outloud from the paper to his wife about a husband who murdered his wife...

    Did I miss you mentioning that this one is a remake? The original French version gives an interesting look of this story in the '30s. Also, there was not a production code for Renoir to deal with, it is quite honest.

    We watched the movie last night, had a wonderful discussion on what the ending meant and what we felt about sanity. The pimp/prostitute aspect of the film was something we joked about as we watched as I couldn't believe a movie could come out at the time with characters like that in the film. Excellent movie.

    Hi again ! I am watching the movie, and am glued to it! I wasn't sure what to expect, when I saw the advertisement or photo frame of her. I was glad that I chose your site for your input. I did not read any other . Immediately went to the film!😄😄😄😄. You wove just the perfect amount of information!!! My friend was from Greenwich village + her parents were Artists! I have never been back there, and was curious about the interiors and architecture. My friend has a most warm inviting home feel, the earthy 60's , and now I can feel how the neighborhood and times contributed to her. This movie is a visual treat. I have been watching Hitchcock for good acting too! Thank you for your site! Greatly😄😄😄😄,do you have any more movies that hold your comments? I uh guess I should type it in, but want to get back to the movie! Thanks for the heads up on what to look for!

    I have watched this movie multiple times and never picked up on the pimp and prostitute relationship between Johnny and Kitty, but now that you mention it, it really just clicks. The movie overtly stated that Kitty doesn't have a "real job" but her roommate calls Kitty a "working girl" at one point. If Kitty wasn't a prostitute during the events in the movie, she definitely was before

      I didn't either, but I did notice that Johnny definitely tried to pimp her out to Chris - So, I wonder in this video's clip === was it really that he pimped her out professionally or just to Chris? I mean....pimp to a hundred, pimp to one, what's the difference?

    • @LearningaboutMovies
      @LearningaboutMovies  4 года назад +3

      yeah, I saw your comment on the other video. I'll need to study Lang a bit more, rewatch M and watch about 5-6 of his movies from the 40s-60s. What's really interesting is his transition from silents to talkies, and his transition from Germany to Hollywood. Which Lang movies do you like?

    Yeah i just watched it a few days ago, it is edgy for the time with things that were very borderline like people on bed kissing, etc. I liked the acting and the direction is tight, the only failing is the end sells our the main character in a way ( i wont give it out here as that would be a spoiler ) but it is a product of the time and must be seen from that perspective ( lol even though the main character has none ) great movie and good description. Film to compare it with? hmm your right it isn't noir in flavour except for the end, also recommend the other Lang movie "The Woman in the Window" ... cheers.

    Just watched this film, I don't understand why you think it's a sex worker & pimp as it's never mentioned she's a sex worker.

    • @LearningaboutMovies
      @LearningaboutMovies  5 месяцев назад +1

      A 1-minute search would confirm this fact. Most movies at this time are coded and won't tell you overtly about salaciousness.

    • @redrosin99
      @redrosin99 12 дней назад

      @@LearningaboutMovieswhat doesn't add up is her being totally broke, Johnny being broke as well and eating up her food, grabbing her cash. A working girl and especially as pretty as her would make more than enough to get by.
      Also, her naïvity about Johnny, her ability to fall in love are indicators she is not a prostitute. As of Johnny, you can see by his interactions that he is not a big criminal as a pimp might be.
      From what I understand she was working in some nightclub using her femininity to extract more money from men. She was seriously disgusted by being touched by anyone but Johnny.
