    A special thank you to Shannon Green ( / byshannongreen ) who introduced me to the concept and to Dede Willingham ( / @inkiwell ) for showing how she did it in one of her videos.

    I am like you Jamie...I am in love with these magazine journals!!! One thing you can do if you have magazines with thin pages is glue 2 or 3 pages together. This has been such a great way to use my images that are collecting everywhere. I have started just going through each folder of images and taking out the images that "speak" to me at the moment and then finding a place in the magazine journal that I think it looks good to me. It is SO much fun!! I will go back later and probably fill in small areas with paint, stamps etc. But I will be making many more of these!!! Look forward to seeing your flip through soon!!!!

    Jamie, have you tried Yes! Glue. It's like a glue stick in a jar. It is more forgiving than a glue stick, n that, you have some wiggle room to adjust the page or paper you are working on. It will slide more easily and it sticks real strong. No bubbles if you watch how you apply it. It is messy. I love the product, though.

    • @theschoolofcreativemagic

      They are expensive magazines. I invest in them because I get SO much out of them. I cut images out for dreamboards, for my Studio Yearbook, for a glue book. I use them as ephemera I share with friends and then I can even use them to make a magazine journal. All of that makes it worth it!

    One more question, do you have a video that actually shows you gluing your pics/images into the 2 magazines that are bound together? I'm not sure I understand just how to do that. Isn't there "measuring" and such? Thanks & happy creating! : )

    • @theschoolofcreativemagic
      @theschoolofcreativemagic  6 лет назад

      Yes, I did bind the two magazines together. Basically I removed the back cover from one and the front cover from the other. Then I glued the now exposed back page and front page together. Finally, I bound it with the fabric tape. I didn't do any measuring whatsoever. Both magazines were the same size so they were going to fit together nicely. I hope that helps!

    • @AndreaCrisp
      @AndreaCrisp 6 лет назад +1

      I think she means the fabric used to smooth the glued pages down when joining the two magazines. It looked almost like a vintage hankie, but you said linen scraps maybe... Love this idea. I have saved way too many magazines, like they are precious, but really I want to use them completely, every little bit, like you are doing! 💖 💖

    How do you use glue sticks without the glue drying out before you completely cover a page, or in this case of combining two magazines, drying out before you get the second page finished? I've never had any luck with glue sticks at all. Even just gluing small images to a page, they do not stick well. Therefore, I have no confidence in glue sticks at all.

      I've definitely found that not all glue sticks are created equal. I've had quite a lot of success with the UHU brand. These days when I am doing one large picture, I often use a glue runner, like the Tombow mono adhesive. For gluing the two journals together, I slathered glue stick on both pages (being generous helps with not drying out) and then smooshed them together and pressed them down with a cloth or a bone folder to smooth it out. I hope that helps!

    I have found that the glue stick over time, dries out and my work comes apart. I don't use glue stick anymore. I've even tried different brands and it doesn't work. If their is something I can do differently please let me know. Thanks.

      I almost always use a UHU glue stick. If it is one nice big page and I really want it to lie flat, I use Tombow mono adhesive. I hope that helps.

    I am VERY new to this and I'm a new subscriber to your channel. So what magazines are the thicker ones?? So you tear out pictures that you don't want and then fill in on the pages that you like with other pictures that you like, right?? I mean, you wouldn't tear out a picture that you wanted and then paste it in later would you?? Sorry, I just didn't catch the specifics. Did you paste the two magazines together before you put the tape on the spine??

      Hi Marney! It's love to connect with you. I so appreciate your questions. When you shop for magazines, feel the pages and see which seem thicker to you. It will be a bit of an experiment finding ones that you like to work with. I have loved working with any of the Somerset magazines, like Artful Blogging and Where Women Create. Those are the two magazines I used in this video.
      Yes, I pasted the two magazines together. Plus I tore out some pages to make room for the bulk that was going to be added by gluing in more stuff - since I knew that is what I would be doing with my journal. I hope that helps!

    Hi Jamie. This video is intriguing, and sounds like something I would enjoy doing. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box, but I don't quite understand how this is a journal. To me it's just two magazines glued and taped together. Where does the journal part come in? Please don't think I'm being rude. I want to understand.

      Kimerly, I so appreciate that question. It's really making me think about all the kinds of journaling there is now - written journaling, art journaling, glue journaling. I'm using this magazine journal as a glue journal, a place where I can put in images that speak to me, that inspire me, that express something. I could also choose to use it as an art journal, painting over the pages as they are. It may not seem like you'd likely use it as a written journal but I've actually really enjoyed writing over images like these glued in ones with gel pens. I could also gesso over the pages and then write on those. I have found this a wonderful way to repurpose something I already have into a collection of pages I can use as a journal.

    Hi Jamie. Short story: I love the magazine "Where Women Create" I look at it when I'm in Hobby Lobby or Michaels, because it is a pricey magazine. So I was going to see what youtube had on it . I saw your video about using the magazine to make a journal. Well I thought I was the only one who had made a journal out of a magazine and I find out lots of people do. Kindred Spirits I guess. Any way I have subbed you and am checking out others who do this. I only have made one. You can check out my video on it. tfs. XO Rhonda

    where women create a beautiful magazine, 17.00 dollars rather expensive to make what amounts to a scrap book

      It is such a wonderful magazine and yes, quite pricey! It all depends what brings you the most from that investment. For me, I get the joy of reading it and looking through it. Then I get to take out images that I want for collage, dreamboards and my Studio Yearbook. And then I get to use even what remains as the base of a wonderful new creation. I feel like I make the absolute most of every little bit this way and it brings me tons of joy and creative inspiration.
