Well I've come to a point that whenever I click on one of your videos I first press like then I watch it. They are all so well articulated and clear!! Thank you so much!
Haha! Thanks! This one is the basis for the RYA windsurf teaching scheme, everything in windsurfing stems from this formula! (and all good coaches and instructors should be basing their coaching around it!)
Your videos are seriously the best out there. Perfect for someone like me at the bottom third of the learning curve (I’ve sailed most of my life but windsurfing is the most fun I’ve had in a long time). For tacking and gibing, your drone shots (with wind direction identified) are super helpful in understanding the flow / movement of the rig as it passes through various positions on its way to a new tack. Very much appreciated!
Love the variety of camera angles and the way you clearly indicate where the wind is coming from throughout. I think it’s one of the areas that lets down other instructional films, it’s easy to lose track of and not be able to visualise how the wind direction is changing throughout the manoeuvre, which makes it harder to relate to what you feel on the water. All the windsurfing films you’re putting out are a great help - thank you!
Thanks for watching! This channel is still really new so any shares among friends and comments like this I really appreciate! I'll be filming and running clinics in Vassiliki this summer, be great if you can make it out to join!
Im going to start windsurfing soon, your videos have been so easy to follow and your explanations are easy to understand. Thank you, and I can't wait to take your instructional videos to the water
Great to hear you’re getting started! I’ll be making some more videos this summer that will help some lower levels to, some back-2-basics style explanations! 👍👍
Thanks! Great insight about pulling down and back - I had not thought of the impact on forward motion. I don't consciously pull down and definitely don't pull back, so I bet I had power in the sail, but was not going anywhere. And, was hard to control the sail. Can't wait to try on the next windy day!
@@bikeroadrider Really happy it helped, and a huge thanks for the share on Facebook. This channel is still a new adventure for me, seeing things like this really keeps me motivated to film more this summer!
Thanks for watching, hope you've managed to see some others on the channel too! I'll be doing clinics in Vassiliki this summer if you can travel at all? Otherwise stay tuned to this channel for more videos in the next month or so!
@@darrenhumphrey8946 Hi! Best way to learn about reading wind is to get high! Somewhere above a bay where you can watch the dark patches of wind as the move across the area. You then take this knowledge of wind into the board, you'll now know to spot darker patches coming towards you, ripples closer together, even a little spray/mist just above the water. Being able to "read the wind" is a key skill in any wind sport, and makes learning a new one much quicker for an experienced wind user- I learnt to kite this summer and my know age of wind made a huge help in my progression!
Glad you liked it Julian, stay tuned to this channel for loads more windsurf and watersports videos next summer... and for the next couple months it's all about the snow!
Thanks for the comment Roy. I’ve been doing some tests on how to do a water start one... watch this space! In the meantime here’s a few clips I filmed last summer in vassiliki, no instruction but some clear demonstrations of the technique.
Hi Cookie, can I ask a question please? Why I can't even put both of my feet behind the mast base? the mast base is always between my two feet. Is that too slow? Thanks!
Hi Tom, Thanks for the message. If your front foot is in front of the mast base you won't be able to channel the power and speed up. If you do mange to get some speed it'll be very out of control. It's important to counterbalance well as you step back to keep the board going straight and speed up.
Hi Cookie could you show the physical position when dropping down low, is it a case of bending at the knees or pivoting on heels and leaning back. I have a tendency to stick my bum out trying to get low. It's hard to see from camera angle what the body position looks like. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks as always . Darren
Hi Darren, Definitely not sticking you bum down, or bending the front knee either... and if you dig your heels your likely to turn up into the wind pretty quickly. Try this video, it's all about POWER, and how to channel it in the correct place to speed up and get planning... Short answer is... - sheet out. - drop your body (and possibly your feet) back on the body and toward the wind. - do this with extended arms and front leg. Heres the link... ruclips.net/video/rJ4QD4Tmw9E/видео.html
Very good instructions! Does leaning the mast towards windward also apply to planing at full speed, or does the sail become more efficient when kept upright?
Thanks Parvel. Look at everyone planning- masts are always learning back and towards the wind. Even when a mast feels more upright than usual, it should still be learning towards the wind- if it is not there will simply be loads of power in the sail, but none of it is being channeled down into the board- just feels very heavy and tough to hold without giving the forward drive you want.
Best video !👍👍good work ❤🤙
Thanks! Hope to can make it to Vass for a clinic or two!

Great video. What exactly are you looking for when looking upwind for gusts? Is it an extra bit of swell or something else? Thanks!
Darker patches coming toward you… ripples closing into each other… general change in texture of shapes and colours on the water to windward of you.

I don't understand the "down" component of the power element.
Do you mean that you need to apply mast foot pressure through your rig?
Try this…
