Cheers, glad you found the video useful. Yeah, now I'm in my 30s I've noticed a difference from my 20...I'm not looking forward to getting bounced around in my 60s.
It's Ashi Guruma. Leg wheel. Beacause of wheel-like motion of the throw, and there is no hip involved or sweep of the leg like in Harai Goshi. O Guruma it's when leg reaches higher from the knee.
Yeah, I'd agree with you there. In randori I just throw the leg across and hope for the best, sometimes the comes through more and would possibly go into Harai Goshi territory...but in the video examples, it's very much in camp Ashi Guruma!
I really want this to be a good go to for mr. I always approached it like I would Tai Otoshi, but the wheeling turn like in Hiza Guruma makes me want to approach it a little differently.
That's a great point...as a leftie, when I'm fighting an extreme rightie and I can't get across for the Harai Goshi, I'll try to do Ashi Guruma in the why you've described, sort of like a Tai Otoshi-ish step across.
Thanks for the video, very awesome demonstration. Nice and clear instructions. One question, is it possible to switch your sleeve grip into a collar grip while throwing?
Thank you...I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Great question...the short answer would be yes. Personally, I think I would struggle to get the pull I need to finish the throw off, but if are able to that's fantastic...this is the beauty of Judo and how it can be adapted to individual preference!
No, it's a common throw from an extreme opposite position, where it can be difficult to come across the front of the body with the hips for a Harai Goshi, but it can be "easier" to bring the leg across and do Ashi Guruma (or O Guruma) instead...I like the spin though!!
@@TheJudoWayofLife oh the spin is great and I’m sure helps the dynamics of the throw. But I’m a heavyweight judo noob and not sure I can pull off the spin.
"Fantastic breakfalling skills" may be an understatement. How is that guy still alive?
Excellent throws!
Beautiful technique. And a great uke makes or breaks the demonstration.
Thank you. And you're right there...a good uke is worth their weight in gold!!
clear instruction, thanks guys. Those mats hurt more when your in your 60s, subbed.

Your hip stays outside, good ashi guruma !
Thank you.
Great technique, one of my favourite. Very helpful introduction.
Cheers Mark, I'm glad it was useful.

Do you have a to spin to do this?
