Inside a Gannet colony at Bird Island, Lambert's Bay, South Africa

At Bird Island near Lambert's Bay on the West Coast of Southern Africa, 20 000 Cape Gannet crowd into a Seabird City.
These birds have developed behavioural mechanisms to enable them to live in such close proximity, while at the same time avoiding serious conflict.
In real time their behaviours happen almost too quickly to watch. Here you can watch their, often graceful but sometimes comic, actions slowed down to 200 frames per second.
