    Great footwork and solid basic Taisabaki! There are also much more agressive and combat viable applications to these concepts that are more to the point. When I was training in Aikido ( coming from a Jujitsu / Old School Judo / Kenpo background) I found it to be great for enhancing my defensive body work. However. I prefer the Aiki Jujutsu approach when applying these specific methods.

    Hello, nice video. Thank you for sharing.
    I would like to ask why you don't use Atemi in the entering, even in this level of exercise? Can you share some thoughts about this?

    • @MrMattias87
      @MrMattias87 7 лет назад +2

      I believe you can use atemi to the face as you enter in. This exercise doesnt have to be precise

    • @lopezb
      @lopezb 5 лет назад +1

      Good question, because use of atemi is the "secret sauce" which is basic to O Sensei's Aikido but often not taught in basic courses. However, it's intrinsic to this technique and easy and natural to add in. It's important to emphasize that atemi in Aikido is not used to actually strike and contact or hurt the uke, but rather to provoke a reaction, create an opening, create movement, unbalance, or distract. In Hikitsuchi Sensei's style one of his dictums is "don't wait", which means when you sense the intention of an attack, you already move before the actual attack. That move is often an entering or an atemi.
      That severs to draw the attack to where you want it to be.

  • @josephmalone253

    Got it! Keysi method block and dive in and break nose with headbutt and then toss with static tenchinage!
    Personally I would be terrified to enter that way and would step back and let the attack come to me and use some ura waza. But I am lazy.
    Is the punch wide and looping or straight then hooking? If wide can you step back and then catch wrist for shihonage ura? If straight then hook can you sidestep to the right and then catch and kotegaeshi?
    Both are kotegaeshi variants that help me with wild punches. Hopefully the guy throws a solid straight punch and I can just ikkyo or kokyonage.
    Your method seems to be popular with other aikidoka but I was never taught this way. I wonder why 😕.

  • @Darkstar321
    @Darkstar321 5 лет назад +15

    Yeah, I practice Aikido myself. And I don't like what I'm seeing here. My Sensei's both expect me to deflect attacks coming it at full speed, full pressure, all the time. There are slow times, such as learning a new technique, but if someone is grabbing me it is to either shove me hard into a wall, or to measure me up for a follow up punch.
    Aikido is a very, VERY good art if you practice it right, and the key is learning body mechanics, and moving quickly from one technique to the next. It is very rare that the first thing is going to work. But if you know how they're going to try and counter you, you can come up and sneak something in somewhere else.
    In Self Defense, Aikido is great. Aikido, like most martial arts teaches you to observe people and environment wherever you are. The four principles of Aikido are embodied by carrying yourself in good strong posture. To learn and advance in Aikido, even these slow, slow practices, you have to weed out poor posture, and looking like a victim. Most 'real' attackers are NOT martial artists at all, they are people looking for an easy mark. And seeing anyone who's looking around astutely while he goes about his day with good posture is not going to be an attractive mark. Combine that with the patience of your art, and you're a lot less likely to antagonize fights yourself. Everyone I know who got into a lot of fights before taking Aikido ended up never getting into fights before they even got passed blue belt. Self defense wise, never having to defend yourself is great.
    Now, as far as how my school practices. Last black belt test had three people attacking one person. Any attack, kicks, punches, grabs. Your job, get them on the ground. That test I ended up with a burst capillary in my lung. We where all cool, it was realistic practice.
    My Sensei's second degree black belt test included going over his entire criteria, demonstrating every technique he could think up on the fly from any grab, doing push ups till he could barely breath and then having a Boxer go at him. His job wasn't to 'not get hit', it was 'Don't get knocked out and take him off his feet.'. My Sensei after getting hit several times managed to get inside the Boxer's range and took him down by an arm. It wasn't pretty at all, it wasn't smooth, he was panting and heaving, he had gotten hit several times, but he slipped in, while exhausted kept himself in good shape while exhausted and demonstrated that he could still defend himself.
    I don't 'play' martial arts. I'm not interested in learning to be a wizard. There is real hidden potential in Aikido IF it is practiced hard, fast, and serious.
    Every Body is different. I take Karate, I've taken TKD, Judo, Kano Jiujitsu and a few others and am belted in all of them. TKD didn't work as well for me because I didn't have the leg length needed to maximize it for myself, but I did learn how to throw decent basic kicks from it. Judo just wasn't something I enjoyed. But I love Karate, and I love Aikido. The guys who are good at a specific art, all take advantage of their body, their make, build. And if they practice seriously can make something good of themselves. My TKD instructor for instance Mr. Mark Brown, was a really tall black dude with long legs and a lean muscular frame. If you can't move fast and have hit a limit in speed, find an art that lets you hit hard. If you can't hit hard, find one that maximizes your center of gravity. So on, and so on.
    But WHATEVER you do, Practice like your life depends on it. But NEVER pull your punches when it's time to execute. Once someone has the basic of a technique, throw repeated attacks in a variety at them, and have them find where the technique naturally fits.
    THE BEST thing I learned from Aikido so far isn't a throw, it isn't how to roll. It isn't a fancy wrist lock. It's keeping connection, measuring distance and timing, arm deflections, that practice of where to keep my guard up to jam someone putting a one two on me. Sure, it doesn't mean I automatically get a throw. But I've had people ACTUALLY try and punch me in the face without warning before and I've been able to deflect them. Why? Because my Sensei's are serious when they attack, and they throw at full speed and commitment and trust me to know my defense. Because my fellow students attack all out throwing punches quickly in succession trying to get around my defense. I know it sounds cliche, but Aikido IS very respected by military and police. But for them it is taught as an augment to their already hard-line training. If you just dance around in slow motion, you'll only be able to defend yourself in slow motion.

      @BrigidoAnayaIslas-nr7cb Месяц назад

      You go for the body, not the hands, most well trained wrestlers can take easy a boxer, since the boxer needs to stand on his feet, wrestlers don’t.
      Neither most knows how to kick, of course there are no doubt some people who thinking on that may study some wrestling too, but there’s a reason why boxers use gloves, their hands are too precious to get injured, there’s always a downside to anything, sports use security measures, people are blind to it, just look at boxing ring, it’s designed to avoid injuries, period.
      On a brawl on the streets or anywhere else there’s no such protection, like someone on a bar hitting you with a bottle or a chair, or a knife, any form you learned as a sports has it’s limitations, and arguing here about what system it’s better, just a waste of time!
      Ultimately it’s the person you’re are facing on a fight, and you may not know what he has down his sleeves, or his methods.
      Trying to use generalities, also a waste of time.
      As a child had many brawls, but as an adult, only one, I guy at a dance got mad with me because I danced with a woman I guess he cared for, and threw a punch at me, I barely avoided the punch, and I try to calm him, but people got around us they wanted to see a fight, which of course I did not want, but the guy thought I was afraid of him and keep following me trying to hit me, finally I threw both my arms inside his arms and grabbing him by his jacket I threw him against a wall, he hit the wall with his back, and landed on his butt, he hit so hard the wall, he had trouble getting up, but as soon as he did he just run away from me, and that was it, people around were disappointed, the fight ended so briefly, of course they were not the people fighting!
      I really did not want to hurt him, and just the strictly minimum for him to stop.
      Now I am almost 72 years old, and never after that time need to defend myself.
      So all that talk of what form of combat it’s better, my advice it’s grow up!
      And do not get in trouble!😉🤷‍♂️

      Indeed. I do both krav maga and mma (both fill eachother) and this doenst work. You just wont throw someone like that, specially not if the guy is bigger than you. We had a aikido guy once in krav maga and with a more wrestling based training day he thought he could use his tricks. He was like a 35/40 year old guy and like 80kilo's and he couldnt throw our 16/18 year old 50/60kilo kids. These kids were beginners to and they just adjusted there stance and were like;.... uh.... what were you trying to do? You should keep in mind that in a real fighting situation you only have your gross motoric skills. So alot of aikido moves just wont work in a real scrappy fight.

      He shold tell it as a dancing or meditating moving art. Not as a selfdefence system. People will get hurt when they think this will protect them.

    Aikido isn't a realistic martial art sorry. Why would you just throw someone around and disable them permanently with a strike.
