    Anyone who thinks a Ronnie rig isn’t effective is being ignorant. There super effective if used correctly. Because one man don’t like it don’t mean it’s not a great rig. Yes it’s over engineered but does it matter. Hooks can be changed in seconds and the boom sections last years.
    Same as hand sharpened hooks. Do your own snd it will improve the hook ratio. But they have there place. Snags and weed I’ll always opt for an out the packet there been checked as even there can be burred over or in bad shape.
    Do what makes you confident regardless of others.

    there is two sides to this but i like the ronnie rig over the 360 for one reason and it is its more versatile than the 360 because i can make like 3 different rigs following that style of the ronnie witch means i buy less clutter of terminal tackle and i can fish any situation with 1 style of rig implemented differently saving me money.

    I’ve only got a small fraction of Chilly’s experience but I think his beef with the spinner rig is mostly based on sympathy for Dave Lane, not hard fact. The spinner objectively has the better mechanics in most if not all situations. No undesirable leverage, no eyes sticking out. The only advantage of a 360 I can think of is that it can present a pop up a few mm closer to the deck if balanced right, which can be an edge. Doesn’t matter much to me though as I mostly fish spinner rigs with wafters (aka turbo German rig). He’s spot on with the rest of his rant though 😅

    Ronnie rigs - It's an effective rig and one of the best ways to present a low sitting pop-up. Is it revolutionary? No, as chilly said it's just a different take on the 360.
    Hand sharpened hooks - Not always necessary or wise as removing material from the point makes it more fragile but as we rely on self hooking properties in most of our carp fishing tactics I can never say a sharper hook is a bad thing. Hook sharpness out of the packet is better than it's ever been but that doesn't mean it can't be better, you can get a knife off the shelf that will dice up a tomato with no trouble but if you want something you can shave with then you're going to have to sharpen it further.
    Won't take a floater in here - Nonsense. They might not come up like a pack of piranhas at the first drop of a dog biscuit but on the right day and with the right approach to feeding there is always an opportunity.
    They don't count off the top - I'd argue they count for more at times because of the work required and the risks taken with lighter gear.
    I've just caught an upper 20 - No real opinion on this. As long as they're not lying about catching or guestimating badly I don't really care what someone else caught. As a fishery manager I'm interested in exact weights if possible (ideally witnessed by myself to ensure accuracy) to monitor the growth and health of my stock but it doesn't take long to work out whose scales/eyes can be trusted. If people want to lie then that's for them to live with, it doesn't matter to me, I'll always take the lower reading on a scale when it's jiggling around if I'm looking at a PB.

Cany understand why people change there rigs every 20-30 minutes leave it there and the fish will find it keep putting it out there you will never catch

    Every rig since the hair is based on the hair it’s a bait not directly attached to the hook .the multi rig is good as you can change the hook easily and it hooks well with pop ups ,bog standard hair rigs of various lengths in hair and hook link still work great on bottom baits and balanced baits .Some of the stuff I see put on rigs these days is getting mind numbing ,I would rather find the fish and use a good baiting program or method of baiting to catch a few ,the most fangled complicated rigs won’t get you a single bite if your not in the right area .

    I hate both the Ronnie and 360 for different reasons. The hinge is mechanically far superior to both. Anyway I like that everyone’s using the same rig now, means I have another edge. There is no doubt at all that a sharpened hook is beneficial though. Im shocked that Ian can’t see this, brush up so it sticks in your nail at barely any pressure will prick easier and penetrate faster than most pack sharp hook. On Helis and chods this is far more important imo. Fox + Ian please go to a runs water and film it. One rod with sharpened hooks vs pack sharp and let’s find out

  • @jameshancock18
    @jameshancock18 8 месяцев назад

    I think the 360 was banned for good reason, it’s unsafe as there’s so much you can get caught in the net. The Ronnie is what the 360 should’ve been. I think there’s lots of truth in what Ian says about there being nothing wrong with the hair rig.

    fishing the same rigs for 20 + years , always catching ,and Everywhere i go catching ! hooks the same use what you thrust , and dont swim with this " we have the solution " streams , the wheel cant be invented twice ! and one thing i have learned over the years , when it works use it !! my main concern is baits not rigs , if your bait is crap you wil catch ... sometimes , if you use quality baits and you feed with it a bit you will see the improvement

    Watch any video showing carp feeding under water. Most of the time when they’re spooked it’s because they’ve seen a ronnie rig. I’m not saying they don’t catch, but I am saying they don’t work as well as some people claim.
