That's too bad. Is anyone thinking about duplicating this layout? My wife is from that area and we are always interested in seeing views from the area. If I had the room I possibly would try it.
There many many moderns of this era and area on the C & O it is a favor. Search You Tube know many are there. I have another one on my playlist out of Houston Tx. Who does more of this area.
The engineer on the (WB) passenger train was high-balling through White Sulphur tunnel and the local's caboose was almost out of the way @ WSS when the mishap occurred! We only had one minor cornfield on this double track mainline in the ~ 15 years of operations. The DS was always a busy man!
My late brother-in-law started out with the old B&O back in 1950 at the age of 17 and worked for them until he switched over to the C&O when they did some kind of sign-on deal with C&O and Western Maryland Railway. The man lived & breathed the railroad life and finally retired after 55 years of working with the railroad. He hated to leave but said something to my sister about them forcing him out because of his age and said they started doing that to many of the old-timers. He died a little over a year after leaving the RR and I believe he willed himself to die because he loved the railroad so much. Y'all great some great footage and I love what you have so far that I've watched on your channel. Is all of these different railroads is the same building? I mean, it is all the sale railroad club for you guys? Thanks for some great footage and for sharing your love & dedication to the greatest hobby in the world!
When Lou was alive, we ran steam all the time. H-8's were all over the place. Lou had about 70+ steam engines of all type's. We ran so much steam the diesel nuts later convinced him to run diesels in the 1955 era! Lou Schultz modeled this C&O Subdivision for 1949 just before the tri-color passenger cars from Pullman Standard showed up!
We literally ran some of the steamers so much that we wore them out ! I remember when Lou bought the new Rivarossi H-8's they were used as pushers on the loaded coal trains and they ran great until the rubber tires wore off and they got slippery!
Mike Walsdorf That's amazing! It sounds like it's time for some new steamers. You could take the old ones and make a scrap years on the railroad with them. They'd look great sidelined and heavily weathered.
So, the man who bought the house, kept and wanted the complete layout??? I have feelings for something like that happening..... It happened to me with a good friend.... A man takes a lifetime to build something this monumental to leave behind in his memory, I hope this layout is still a reality at least in someone's possession.
No you cannot sell the house with the layout in it. I could not sell my old house with the layout in the pool house. 16 x 22 was first thing buyer want to know if I was going to remove the layout. This layout was torn down in the past two years have had six people with big layout die and all the layouts were torn down to sell the houses.
This (HO) C&O Allegheny Subdivision layout was in a room 35' X 53' . It took about 20 people to operate this monster! Double track mainline RR from Clifton Forge, Va. to Hinton, W. Va. . Sadly, it is all gone! We had a buyer who was going to buy the house and keep the layout.
really enjoyed this i run this subdivision everyday and like the history my dd used to ride the trains on the greenbrier subdivision growing up. alot has changed but im trying to preserve history in pictures and such because things are a changin fast
I believe we ran about 26 loaded and unloaded cars per each coal train, sometimes as many as (6) trains each ! MT's and DF's . East and West pickups, manifest freights, mail trains , Limestone rock train to Frazier, the FFV, and sometimes two sections of the George Washington! Sessions would begin at Noon on Saturdays and last sometimes over five hours!
Excellent tour and Model Railroad History about Lou & Bill. Beautiful layout with a lot of prototypical operations. Thanks for sharing this video.
It is good to see this layout back in operation.
Not any more this was last time it was run. It has been torn down and completely removed. Nothing left of it now.

great video :) looks like the passenger train, flash flare? had already derailed before re-ending the local

Absolutely fabulous model railroad! But I'm sorry they went all diesel!

Mike Walsdorf It's a fabulous railroad no matter what the motive power. I enjoyed the video immensely. Thanks for the reply.

Dear Art- Thanks for sharing these GREAT memories that we have of Lou and Bill.
So, the man who bought the house, kept and wanted the complete layout???
I have feelings for something like that happening..... It happened to me with a good friend....
A man takes a lifetime to build something this monumental to leave behind in his memory, I hope this layout is still a reality at least in someone's possession.
The layout started in the 60s and was moved to three different location and became larger each time it was moved. Model RR really are never complete.
But- does someone at least still own it??? I'd almost cry if this was thrown in a dumpster........

what size of layout is it and do you have a diagram of the track layout

There many good ones but Lee Hile's GN and John Pakers BNSF fall river division.
wow like it
some one call a lawyer! my back!
Oops I promise a big court judgment
maybe the next time, show more passenger cars.
Shouldn't that be "Allegheny"?
Not my game, and the layout is now completely gone.
There’s a place called alleghany , and then there’s the locomotive and mountains called Allegheny
Run a 2-6-6-6 and 2-6-6-2
Sure would like to count the cars on the coal train.
