It's confusing. I certainly don't consider Ann Arbor to be a part of any metropolitan area, but some consider it to be a small metro area. I've always known Ann Arbor to be a small college town. Anyhow, the Economic Research Institute ranked Ann Arbor as the #1 small metro area in which to attend college. The University of Michigan IS Ann Arbor. The only other "major" college in the area is Eastern Michigan, and there's a huge difference between attending college in Ann Arbor at UM and in Ypsilanti at EMU. The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is ranked as the 6th or 7th wealthiest college in the US, depending on what source you're quoting. Ann Arbor has become one of the major centers in the US for technological development thanks to the University of Michigan, and it's definitely the hub of technology in the State of Michigan.

Rapture98 I lived in A2 for 5 happy years, it most certainly is not Metro Detroit. Wayne is probably as far as you can go and call it part of Metro Detroit.

Yes, he's right. Ann Arbor was ranked as the #1 most educated city in the nation by Business Journals in 2011. Seventy-two percent of Ann Arbor residents hold bachelor degrees, and 43% have advanced degrees. That placed Ann Arbor #1 nationally in the Business Journals poll. Cambridge, MA was 2nd, and Berkeley, CA was 3rd. Ann Arbor was ranked as the 2nd most educated city in the US according to US News in 2012 behind Boulder, CO. However, the US News poll ranked metro areas. It really doesn't make sense, because the stats were derived form the Boulder, CO metro area, while the stats for Ann Arbor were from Ann Arbor alone. Ann Arbor would've been much lower on the list if it had been considered a part of the Detroit metro area. The federal govt may consider Ann Arbor to be a part of a larger metro area, but it really isn't. Ann Arbor is small college town in itself with the urban sophistication of a large city, and I'm not talking about the urban sophistication of Detroit. lol

Ann Arbor is a hi-tech, affluent city thanks to the University of Michigan. The Unversity of Michigan is Ann Arbor. It's also the reason that Ann Arbor is the most educated city in the US.
