That a song this old is so beyond powerful proves Brian Wilson was years ahead in how music is created...That was superb....Brian, your work will never be equaled.
Brian Wilson said he wrote this with Ray Charles in mind. Darius Rucker provides that soulful delivery here. Perhaps the highlight of a tremendous evening of music from top talent.
So much musical genius would go unnoticed if not for the Internet.
You wouldn't think these guys would go together...but man, the smooth, clean vocals of Sweet, mixed with the raspy voice of Rucker...a match made in heaven.
Really beautiful rendition of one of me very best favorite songs (!)
I want to hear Darius do this song totally solo. He’s amazing here.
Good thought. I'd like that too.
I'd like to hear Matthew's solo.
I actually think they complement each other perfectly. Very different voices it’s done intentionally.
I can't even describe how much I love this cover....Darius give me the chills with his soulful lead and harmonies...and Matthew you shine so brightly. Thank You!
I don't think any one else could have done this tribute, so perfectly.
Most underrated BB song ever -- I want this shit played at my funeral!!!
YouDummy No, but you go right ahead 🖕🏼
@@heli0tr0pe lol :))
I TOTALLY AGREE. Too awesome always
why? you wont hear it.. what do you mean???
Play this at my funeral???? I'd come RIGHT OUT OF THE CASKET!!!! AND I'D START DOIN' THE BOP!!!
Brilliant! I don't think I've ever heard a bad version of this song. Definitely one of the Beach Boys best.
what a voice darius has
Agree, he can really belt out so many songs that I could listen to all day.
Also, he shouldn't worry about it, because I'm a mile high, and I'm the scariest.
Bless Brian Wilson...
I was at this show - what a great night!
Oh lucky duck!! 🌊🌅
yes ,a great song ,my favourite by them
I remember one night getting ready for work and I had to hear this song. I'd never heard it played on radio. I found and played it. Then driving to work- it came on the radio. A beloved BB tune and this is a good cover.
One of Brian's best.
Very classy of Sweet to skillfully play the straight man, knowing Rucker's vocals would blow the song into the stratosphere.
By far the most underrated Beach Boys song (along with "Darlin')
First time I heard it I could hardly believe it was a Beach Boy song. So different from the old surf tunes but they are all good.
yeah, I didn't know this was a Beachboy tune till recently
Thank you...what I've been saying forever!
Probably the best cover. Love this song, definitely a top 10.
That would be Ray Charles for me, but this is a close second.
Nah, sorry can't touch the real thing.
Ok allow me to let you wrestle with that...ruclips.net/video/LGz9XP_S2P0/видео.html
Jimmy Buffett also did a great cover of this song. But this version is definitely one of the best.
Try the KGB version. Way more soul.
this is a GREAT fucking take on a great fucking tune....these guys harmonies are perfectly conducive to the music and the spirit created thereby!!!!!!rock-ON!
That was AWESOME!!! I didn't become a Beach Boys fan until the mid 70's, so I didn't follow them from the beginning. I've always loved this song and I've heard many bands try to perform it and fail, but NOT these guys! This is a fantastic cover. Well done.
Great take on one hell of a song!
Nailed it.
There was another cover of this song here on RUclips that has been removed. Was Ray Charles singing it backed up by the Beach Boys. It was GREAT! This is just such a cool song.
I always liked this song, these guys are great together.
Awesome performance of one of my favorite songs and definitely my favorite BB song.
blown away only 87000 plus visits !
Fabulous...could listen this all day. One of my favorites.
Damn man everyone was groovin hard for the last minute, that's what music is all about :)
Just saw Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and Blondie Chaplin perform this tonight. It was incredible! Happy 80th Birthday Brian!!! 6/20/22
Lucky you are!!
My top BB sone, saw them do it w/Brain in 2012 here in Toronto.
WOW. Isaw them on the 60s with Suny and Cher. Incredible.
Brilliant! Great interpretation!
DRUMMER IS ROCK SOLID.
Lots of love for Matthew Sweet! He's so underrated and I know, You hear that word all the time but for him, It's a fact plus I've seen him live before with a long string of pure Talent Artists. If you think you don't know who he is then, Search the Song "Girlfriend".
I love the original but this is great. Well done!
@ssiknick83 you are correct that Brian doesn't like the song. Saw him in concert about a year ago and flat out said he doesn't like singing the song. Really bummed me out since it was the one song I wanted to hear.
WoW....great take on my fave BB song.....EVER!
Nice version!
OMG....SO BEAUTIFUL
These guys also Did Sail On, Live w/ 'Brian Wilson', before this one.. .Equally great...
Beautiful voices
Excellent
GREAT COVER.
THIS SONG IS SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! brian WILSON IS MY HERO
I think I like this better than the original!!!
God I love this! Thank you for posting this. I can't stop playing it
Great cover both these boys can sing.
Matthew and Darius sang it, that's my jam.
The only one that can top this is their live performance on Letterman a few years back with Brian Wilson himself. Thanks for the post!
Holy shit, my people.
First time to hear this version. I'm gonna sleep well tonight.
The BEST!
Extreme wonderfulness.
I love Darius' Joe Cocker arm moves as he's singing like Joe.
Just let Darius sing…thanks Matthew.
Darius is always tryng to sing like Don Dixon. Never quite gets there...
great job
watch the vid of ray charles singing lead for the beach boys. gives goose bumps.
One of my all time favorite RUclips videos always go to it when I am surfing. Read some posts about who does it best. Sweet and Rucker hit it out of the park..Everybody who attempts to sing this song must ask themselves what in the fuck do these lyrics mean. Its a difficult song to sing. I just read recently that Brian Wilson did not write the stupid lyrics and because of that he never liked the song.......
Hootie!!!!!!
Well done boys... 👍👍
Now that's Music
Great!
Rucker was amazing in HATBF and Sweet is a major player !
Thanks for posting this ❤❤❤
Pretty darn good job boys!
Love it!! Good job fellas :)
Hootie!
Omg, Hootie? I've been looking for you brah. There you are :D
Darius is AWESOME
Hell yes!!!
Is that Chaz P. doing the intro?
AMEN, BROTHER......
Darius nails another one live.
Love the lead telecaster with a neck P90.
Darius YES!!!!
Matthew Sweet is awesome. But somebody has to tell him to stop looking like Mark David Chapman.
lol, horrible to say, but he does look like him
Holy fuck I hate it.
I completely agree with you!
Brian Wilson’s band. Not too shabby either.
Fucking awesome
I think this is the best thing Brian ever wrote....but hey, thats just me
Great job.
interestingly enough, brian has said he doesn't like the song lol and apparently didn't contribute at all in the final verson BUT did come up with the main melody.
Is that Jeff Foskett over Sweets shoulder, playing tambourine?
Was indifferent or mildly interested in the Beach Boys in my preteen days in the 1960s.This song,is a tour de force and about as different from"I get around" as a Mozart concerto is to a nursery rhyme.
Can I add The hottest duo in existence !
great version by both guys, but check out all the empty seats. was this the afternoon matinee?
Listen to Ray Kennedy's original version with KGB (rearranged by Brian Wilson including lyric changes) and featuring Mike Bloomfield on guitar. Superior in all aspects.
Michael Quinn Where?
Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks wrote the original song. Then several others made changes to lyrics.
Carl's guitar?
THAT DARIUS RUCKER WAS NO DUMB FUCKER. HE LEFT HOOTIE TO BLOW FISH AND MOVED ON TO BETTER THINGS.
Why couldn't have Jellyfish or Paul McCartney & Wings cover this song?!!!!
Ok not to bad
Wonder if Joe Cocker ever recorded SOS?
Epiphone casino!!
Ray Charles live with the Beach boys is the definitive version
From about 1:50 on, Darius should've just turned it over to Matthew and let him wail.
Whenever i've heard this, i always thought they were singing "Sail On, Sailor Moon".. 😆.. for some odd reason..😏
needless to say confusion set in...😁..😉..
I love Darius. someone give Matthew a new doo.
sweet. In my mind...the Ray Charles version slayed this song forever
Matthew wasn't singing loud enough. That aside, awesome cover!:-)
At first impression I thought it was Mark Chapman singing
Sadly, Brian played almost no part in writing the lyrics to this song. That's why many of the lyrics don't flow well together in sound or ideas, sound choppy and predictable where one lyricist ends and another begins. It was a case of too many cooks spoiling the pot=too many people contributing lyrics. The best crafted songs always avoid having too damn many people helping to write the song. When I listen to this song I can easily tell what Brian Wilson, the great Van Dyke Parks ('Heroes & Villains') and Tandyn Almer ('Along Comes Mary') composed and wrote, because it demonstrates genuine song crafting ability. What was done by Jack Rieley (the band's manager) and Ray Kennedy doesn't merit inclusion in this song. I wish this song had been written and composed primarily by Brian Wilson, with marginal assistance from Van Dyke Parks and Tandyn Almer. I think it would have been vastly superior to the end product that made it to the recording. As for the lead vocal, I think that Matthew Sweet really hit the ball out of the park with his performance here; actually delivered a much better vocal performance that Blondie Chaplin did on the studio recording.
I think Blondie sang his @ss off on the original and it is and always will be the gold standard.
This is a great cover. Equally as good is the cover of the same song by Sean Lennon and Mark Ronson.
Not to disparage Ronson and Lennon, but I think this one is better.
