Can't believe this is on RUclips! Thanks so much for uploading it. I'm that guy who asks the first question: 'What's in the draw at the Travel Tavern?'. A VERY long time ago. It's weird looking at your younger self! 1998? Feels like a lifetime ago.
He's deserving of it but it's likely he's been promoted where others have been relegated. Cleese for example was a national treasure who mistakenly spoke his mind on being in favour of Brexit and it all came crashing down!
My wife 'endures' my love of Alan Partridge. I was watching an episode with my kids and they asked 'whats in the drawer!!??' i was about to say 'we never find out' and she walked past with an armful of washing and casually replied: "obviously the little leather pants he parades around in during the dream sequence' I married her again RIGHT on the spot.
One of the most talented comedians, also because very versatile. Deserves to be famous around the world as well, but for that he would have to be American.
LOL! I meant rare for COOGAN - he doesn't do many interviews. You can see here that he'd rather be somewhere else. Thus while millions saw this interview - BILLIONS DIDN'T. Therefore, for those billions, here is one of Steve Coogan's RARE interviews...
0:10 - "oh no - you're the fourth BeeGee!" - I get that reference! In an earlier show Clive Anderson interviewed the BeeGees and made reference to their previous band name "Les Tossers". They decided to walk out of the interview. Sadly both interviews have since been removed from RUclips - it was at time stamp 5:55 watch?v=2Uf8PYl1V44. My previous post was removed so I can;t provide an alternative link...
Just got the 'I, Partridge' audiobook. Seriously 'laugh-out-loud-on-a-rough-urban-bus-first-thing-in-the-morning-so-the-freaks-all-stare-at-you-and-you-still-can't-help-grinning-at-them' FUNNY!!
Never been able to say whether I like him or not. I think it's Alan Partridge I'm fed up of. However this interview was excellent. Really enjoyed it - clever, funny and endearing x
It wasn't that he was that unpopular. Ferrino WAS very popular but Coogan was still working on Partridge at that time in the late 90's and because of it's success just continued with that which also included a heavy UK tour.
@johntkooz My first encounter with Steve Coogan was tuning in to one of his Alan Partridge interviews (in progress - no audience) on RADIO (where the character began) and it took me about THREE MINUTES to realize it was BOGUS!!
@cheekymancunian There's a great clip on YT (not one of mine) where Steve and Rob Brydon have a "Caine-off" - it's hilarious! Comments don't URL, but if you YT search: Steve Coogan Rob Brydon Michael Caine - you'll find it! It's cut from a BBC 2 prog called "The Trip" - enjoy!
I liked it. Coogan had obviously done a LOT of work on it - songs and all. But perhaps the character, being Portuguese, was not as accessible to the British as Paul and Pauline Calf, Alan Partridge, et al. And his new creation being less than massively successful (although it was hardly a DISASTER) the tabloid press (who never liked Coogan anyway) LEAPT on it - ensuring its demise...
Impressions, although it might be a correct word, I wish Clive would describe Steve Coogan as an impersonator and not an impressionist . If he did a "sketch" circa 1875, as and artist, he could say I am impersonating an impressionist.
It’s quite surreal to see his comic genius scythe through the 90s mediocrity of Clive Anderson amidst the horrendous canned laughter. It’s odd too to see Anderson’s lame attempts at finding an angle on Coogan’s ‘rude’ show as if trying to rile him somehow by not so subtly accusing him of sharing the same characteristics of his fictitious creations and then immediately attempting to put words in his mouth by suggesting that Coogan thinks that his audience is somehow stupid. You get the sense that Clive Anderson knew he was flailing and didn’t have the necessary clout/gravitas to be in front of the camera in this format. Coogan is, as ever, flawless in his delivery and deftly sideswipes these attacks.
We did the ask someone to ask someone (who was in on it) 'er, how's your dad's piano lessons coming along ' 'you bastard you know my dad's got no hands' prank at school on younger pupils and even teachers. About 1984.
'Speed stoppers with Alan partridge'......Alan and celebrity guests including piers Morgan and Ian Huntley stake out accident black spots with hand held laser speed cameras in a competition to clock dangerous speeding vehicles.
Had the same kind of thing when I worked in factory after leaving school at 16. Guy told me ASK THAT BLOKE IF HIS DAD STILL PLAYS FOR MAN UNITED. I asked WHO IS HIS DAD. He replies I CANT REMEMBER BUT REALLY GOOD PLAYER. So I ask EXCUSE ME, DOES YOUR DAD STILL PLAY FOR MAN UNITED and the blokes face turns thunderous and he says YOU KNOW MY DAD AINT GOT NO FUCKING LEGS YOU BASTARD. I felt awful til the rotten gits all laughed at me
I LOVE Steve Coogan. Brilliant comedic mind and always puts me in a good mood when I'm not inclined to be in one.
Doctor of laughter
His Alan Partridge impression is spot on
This is the 12th rare interview I have seen
Coogan is on a different planet talent wise to nearly any of his peers
so he thinks
Brydon is better I think. He's funnier too.
@@jodomo4279 you cant compare what Brydon has done compared to Coogan. Brydon is a very good light entertainer but thats all.
Yup. Coogan and dont forget Morris - both comedic geniuses
@@49dwalin55 Chris Morris is amazing. The Day today 👍
Immensely talented,
Hi impersonations are just spot on, brilliant.

It’s even longer ago now 11 years later
Even longer now. Nearly 11 and a half years later!
Steve Coogan is just soooo funny. And has been for such a long time. One of the best.
'National treasure' is a terms bandied about all too frequently these days ... but Steve Coogan is definitely one of that very small band.
He's deserving of it but it's likely he's been promoted where others have been relegated. Cleese for example was a national treasure who mistakenly spoke his mind on being in favour of Brexit and it all came crashing down!
Cleese has since eaten his words on Brexit, then ruined it all over again by moving to the Caribbean / sticking two fingers up ol' Blighty.
Alan partridge could have written this comment
That and Karl Pilkington
Fantastic. The 70s foreign-film impression I had never seen before.
+geekpie100 I've tried it - it's a HELL of a lot harder than it looks!
+geekpie100 Brilliant, just brilliant.
Billy Crystal did the exact same routine 20 years earlier.
It's genius
@@RogerOThornhill really? Billy Crystal is a funny bastard too lol
Thanks for this, great interview with a master of comedy by a quality host.
He’s a very clever man
But I don’t trust him!
My wife 'endures' my love of Alan Partridge.

Steve is a legend ..very under rated as a comic , totally original and pure comedy gold
Brilliant. I was also fooled into thinking there was a problem with the audio sync when I first watched the voice over dub bit!
He’s a rock n roll comedian. Legend
One of the most talented comedians, also because very versatile. Deserves to be famous around the world as well, but for that he would have to be American.
this is a great interview. Steve was on top form.
His Michael Caine is staggering.
It's perfect
This is the fantasic steve coogan
Thanks for the upload.
Comic genius.
fucking brilliant. you gotta love the coog.

He's a comedy genius and a master entertainer.
I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't like Alan Patridge.

LEGEND!
I’ve always said that I thought that Steve Coogan was a comedy genius.
That's deliberate though, Coogan's a rare comic who's aware of how people feel about him and he plays on it.
Just got the 'I, Partridge' audiobook. Seriously 'laugh-out-loud-on-a-rough-urban-bus-first-thing-in-the-morning-so-the-freaks-all-stare-at-you-and-you-still-can't-help-grinning-at-them' FUNNY!!
Best bit was the alan partridge at the very end
Coogan has been very funny for 30 years.
This is an excellent interview
great fun, many thanks.
Never been able to say whether I like him or not. I think it's Alan Partridge I'm fed up of. However this interview was excellent. Really enjoyed it - clever, funny and endearing x
Jacqui Cryer Mushroom fryer He's come up with a number of strong characters - but the PUBLIC always decide what they want you to do. THEIR fault!
STEVE COOGAN'S VOICE REALLY GOT DEEPER OVER THE YEARS!!!!!
I've met a few like Paul Calf, and I was probably one of them.
Steve Coogan really knows how to nail a character.
I put him up there with Al Murray.
Love Steve!
cheers for the upload m8
He is ridiculously funny.
Totally outclassed Clive Anderson.
Yep, same when Anderson interviewed Partridge
Anderson has no class so not difficult.
Oc course Clive Anderson did do an interview with Alan Partridge a year later.
RARE! IT'S ON ON RUclips.
It wasn't that he was that unpopular. Ferrino WAS very popular but Coogan was still working on Partridge at that time in the late 90's and because of it's success just continued with that which also included a heavy UK tour.
BEEN ALMOST 20 YEARS NOW!!
Coogan looks like phil daniels here
He does a great alan partridge impression
He really is a national treasure....Steve Coogan too
He has hated tabloid journalists for a long time ....
@johntkooz My first encounter with Steve Coogan was tuning in to one of his Alan Partridge interviews (in progress - no audience) on RADIO (where the character began) and it took me about THREE MINUTES to realize it was BOGUS!!
... this video's so RARE it's on youtube ...
? What's rare is that Steve Coogan is doing an interview as himself.
Wonderful stuff!
Genius comedian who has inspired.. little Britten, James cordon .. the list goes on..
what a talent
The audience are having a good time, aren't they?
20 foot tall chickens

Lol brilliant interview
13 years later and the hate has only grown
Rare interview? He does loads of them, lol.
Not in the 1990s. Steve chose to not be interviewed as himself on chat shows during the 1990s.
How RARE can this interview be? It’s on RUclips isn’t it.
hardly a RARE interview. this was on clive andersons talk show
Bombed is harsh. Live on stage he worked really well.
Owned him at the end.
@DustyBinBoy This is the reason I "service" my channel! Great story.
Aren't we all?
Masterclass
STEVE COOGAN IS ALMOST 52 NOW!! BUT HE WAS 32 IN THIS VIDEO!!
That's amazing. So he's 20 years older now? Unbelievable really when you think about it.
The lighting is the same as the lighting for Anglian Lives.
Impressions, although it might be a correct word, I wish Clive would describe Steve Coogan as an impersonator and not an impressionist .

An impressionist is a painter

Was this shot after Clive offended the Bee Gees?
The Concise Statement the reference to Coogan being the fourth BeeGee wouldn't have made much sense if that incident hadn't already happened lol
The Concise Statement
No before .
What made you think that 🤔
Funny bloke.
Why do folks feel compelled to label something as Rare ? When it obviously isn't ?
We did the ask someone to ask someone (who was in on it) 'er, how's your dad's piano lessons coming along ' 'you bastard you know my dad's got no hands' prank at school on younger pupils and even teachers. About 1984.
Did you use to 'get' the teacher after school?
Didn't realize he was so witty off the cuff
He is THE BEST.
Coogan is the man.
I think I just fell in love.
@specialfx34 I actually thought something had happened with the sound at first. Its that good!!
From 2:16 is sublime
Steve coolant rocks
How can someone be "militant" left? Does that entail being progressive whilst holding weapons? Please define your criterion.
Looks like the KMKY set.
I did some of these bits on parky.
I thought his Neil Kinnock is his best. Makes him funny as well as real. Just tapped in to what it was that the public didn't want or trust.
Clive Anderson is the man.
the irony from back then to now - "i hate tabloid journalists" lol love the man!!!
I literally had the same experience reading the guardian at my first job surrounded by sun readers
Wow what an insufferable snob
Paul Sykes II me or Coogan
@@shawdavid both. You do realise you sound like a smug sanctimonious prick right?
HTF does this qualify as a "rare interview?"
He gave the same interview on parky. Bloody hell what a let down.
genius !!!
@steveparadox1 Even RUclips's sync isn't THAT bad!
'Speed stoppers with Alan partridge'......Alan and celebrity guests including piers Morgan and Ian Huntley stake out accident black spots with hand held laser speed cameras in a competition to clock dangerous speeding vehicles.
unfair the beegees were right to lease the set

This interview is so 'RARE' that it was broadcast to millions of viewers from a studio full of people. Wow.
I always though Clive Anderson would have made a great host on HIGNFY replacing Angus Deayton
This guy would have been mr bean if Atkinson wasn’t
Rare?
Stalking me on RUclips and looking like a massive twat, success!!
