This whole show is about showing that cosplay is more accessible than you would think, I think this is a great tutorial for people who are just starting out making their own cosplay's it's not 100% accurate but it is recognizingable and if they're happy with it then that's all that matters. As long as they're not trying to compete with it it's fine
Sailor Moon took place at a time when anime ladies were born with legs that were roughly 3 feet long. When they entered High School, their legs grew to a size that was nearly 82% of their total height.
Prehistoric SpongeBob THIS IS HISTORICAL FACT! Through many years of selective breeding, the spider legged anime ladies of the '80s and '90s went all but extinct, eventually replaced completely by the moe ladies we have today.
My legs go nearly up my armpits and when i dressed up as sailor moon they went: *are you the real sailor moon* ?!?! So I can agree that they have long legs as in they were giraffes
this tutorial is GREAT for people limited on supplies for cosplay, but i have to say that you really could have put in more effort to pleat the skirt properly
It only eats through styrofoam, EVA, craft and floor matt foam is fine to be spray painted. (Those 3 versions of the foam are the same kind of foam just different names)
Y’all need to stop hating. Her cosplay is cute, cartoony and it’s her deal if it starts to fall apart! I think it was pulled off really well and turned out adorable.
Ok as a veteran to cosplay I have some tips and light suggestions. When doing boots you are usually better off making boot covers than just spray painting them. I have personally struggled pulling boots off of friends who spray painted them, and plus the paint tends to crack and flake everywhere. The other thing is hot glue isn't really the best substitute for actually sewing. It may be fast, but judges at costume contest usually look for that and it is a pretty poor construction choice. I'm not saying that hot glue is bad, just it doesn't do very well making a whole garment out of it. Hope this helps anyone looking to start cosplaying!
Holy crap! The supplies almost cost $200! "DIY for the rich" is more like it. EDIT: After 4 years, my opinion has slightly changed; if it's DIY, I expect it to be as inclusive as possible no matter the income. But to be honest, I originally made this comment by really nitpicking things. Despite some stuff like proper fabric scissors and a sewing machine making this a lot easier, they aren't really necessary for doing this build. If I were to recalculate the absolutely necessary material, it would probably be closer to $100 max if you didn't have some stuff they already had. I still think it's a bit much, but someone doesn't have to go 100% step by step, this video is just for ideas on making the costume. I even feel sad since they've stopped doing DIY Costume Squad and Homemade How-To. I can't help but feel some sort of guilt for criticizing them when they were just trying to give some ideas to start on costume crafting. I miss them, and I took them for granted.
I had a calculator out and added each of the prices and also included some things like the scissors, boots, gloves, and any other things she doesn't give a price to. It totaled to about $185
Deina Venckūnaité Surprisingly, the sewing machine only costs $20. You can add up the stuff yourself if you want. I grabbed the prices from google. And yeah, cardboard. I reinforced it with more cardboard in order to last much longer. Also had other supplies, but they were mostly old plastic material such as discarded plastic cookie trays and a soda bottle. The money went mostly to hot glue sticks and paint.
For those of you who might be new to cosplay and prefer spraying their shoes vs painting them, I would recommend Design Master Floral Spray Paint for leather or vinyl boots! It's long lasting, vibrant and won't crack/peel when wearing - Unlike normal sprays & paints. I used this method for my Sailor Saturn boots and they're still going strong! Of course, this is my personal preference.. Angelus Acrylic Leather Paint comes highly recommended, as well!
Look guys, not everyone knows how to sew. If you're bitching about hot glue, then maybe just use industrial strength fabric glue. I did for some of the pieces. I also sewed a lot more of them than she did, but still...she's trying to show people of ALL skill levels what to do. She already said in the video that you could sew some of the pieces that she chose not to. As far as gluing the pieces on to the wig? Yeah, I agree. I almost lost it. I put hair clips on the backs of mine so that they can be taken out and the wig can be serviced. Either way, it was a good and simple tutorial.
Claire! My daughter is entranced with you and your sewing skills. She's 3.5 and we're trying to instill craft skills in her and she has watched your Sailor Moon video maybe 15 times We just started Princess Tutu since she is doing ballet class - could you manage a ballet related episode? Even Princess Tutu or some Hayao Miyazaki stuff (Nausicaa?) would be inspiring for her!
Even though I used thread and a sewing machine instead of hot glue this tutorial was helpfull to make my own Sailor Saturn costume. I only have problems with the boots. Still the tutorial is really good and you explain it step by step. Good job. ;)
Everybody I know around her age ( my brother etc. ) says sailor moon was a show they watched when they were a kid. Like, was there only one channel “back then??” KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!
Can you guys start providing links to where you get the wigs for future videos? With both the LiLu cosplay and now this Sailor Moon cosplay, you've just been like "Oh yeah, I got this super awesome and super cheap wig at a secret place! Good luck finding it!" That Sailor Moon wig looks amazing for $30, but I'm totally bummed that no link was provided to where you got it
For all the people mad about hot glueing. This tutourial is actually really good for first timers or on the cheap. You can always replace the glueing with actual sewing if you know how to do it. And put pins in the back of the hair jewels if you don't want to glue it to the wig. No point being all whiney because she did it another way.
This was super easy to make and cheap for me because my mom is a clothes designer so I have fabric everywhere! And I made one and I'm super happy except I sewed all of it and only used about used 2 dots of hot glue
When using glue on stretch fabric place over a form before applying. The glue stiffens the material and prevents it from stretching in the area applied.

It looks great! My only problem is that I can buy a nice quality cosplay for $49. Normally when I make my cosplays it is because I am trying to save money.
Late, but props to them for not making the front bow ridiculously massive. I know it's accurate, but I always thought on other cosplayers it looks weird and too huge. I don't cosplay (too broke for cons, no one to go with) but I do admire it. It's a dream of mine to dress up as Sailor Moon or Jupiter, but I'd love to lose weight first.
Why is everyone so salty. Her costume is amazing for a DIY one! Why can't we just appreciate the fact that she put in her effort to make that in a day 🙄
As far as helping amateur cosplayers figure out a base for this outfit, this is fantastic. I'd have noooo idea how to start off with the shoulder and glove pads, so this is vert helpful. As for the details? Yeah, they're wrong, but this was supposed to be a newbie diy anyway, so it works. If you're struggling with the gems, try resin. There are loads of great channels dedicated to resin crafting, so give that a try! And as for the skirt? Why not sparkles AND pleats? I mean, have ya'll SEEN the Sera Myu musicals??? All that stuff's glittery OFF THE WAZOOOO! That was even approved by the original creator herself! So yeah, sparkles rule :P
I'm making a chibiusa cosplay right now and yeah, this about describes it. All hands made, resin gems, layers on layers of sparkly translucent fabrics, even a color shifting corset. This is OK for beginners but it's all very cheaply done and will not last, and really doesn't capture the sailor moon aesthetic
Hey CineFix, so basically I grew up playing and watching Silent Hill, and this year for Halloween I wanted to make a famous character in the game, Pyramid Head! So what I'm saying is to try are make Pyramid Head's Mask or whatever it is, and also make the robe, it doesn't seem hard but the details on the helmet its self are a lot harder than you think, you gotta make it look brownish rusted kinda look, and paint blood on the robe and everything, so if you guys can do diy to make Pyramid Head before Halloween that would be amazing! Thanks Sincerely, Phoenix Draws

I have a D.I.Y skirt pleater and I did that when I made this so I did a great job
Ialyf
😘😍
She used polyester jersey for the skirt and it’s not very easy to pleat that kind of material.
Y'ALL A WARNING! DONT USE SPRAY PAINT ON FOAM! MOST SPRAY PAINTS WILL EAT THROUGH IT
you could layer some white glue before spray painting it, it helps
Plastidip
@@CoconutButt dude I literally cosplay this is from experience. Most foams cant be spray painted
From what I understand it depends on what kind of spray paint, water based or latex spray paints are safe.
It only eats through styrofoam, EVA, craft and floor matt foam is fine to be spray painted. (Those 3 versions of the foam are the same kind of foam just different names)

The seamstress in me cringed when you didn't pleat the skirt properly but it turned out cute nonetheless

Would love to see a DIY tuxedo mask to go with the sailor moon. Your tutorial seems very easy to follow.

She says at the end it was about $80, with $30 of that being just the wig. Not even close to 200
I had a calculator out and added each of the prices and also included some things like the scissors, boots, gloves, and any other things she doesn't give a price to. It totaled to about $185

I lost my shit when she just hot glued the craft foam jewels TO THE WIG!!!!
😭😭😭 right!?!
sAME
Tommy - ikr I died ;.;
I'm confused with why that's a problem
try getting hot glue out of a wig without damaging it... try taking care of a wig full of hot glue... good luck... it won't happen :,D
I am going as Sailor Moon and my service dog will be Luna!
Aww, that's adorable!
And good luck with your cosplay! I'm gonna be Chibi Moon :D
I wish i could show you what i made for my daughters thanks to this tutorial. The best one i found and easy to follow.

this video showed up on my timeline after a couple of years since i last watch it lol, bring back memories
Really impressed with how the arm sleeves/rolls came out. The costume looks great!

If you want your daughter to have good craft skills, please don't encourage her to hot glue fabric/outfits together. Teach her to sew.
Thanks alot. I'm going to use this video to help me create my Sailor Jupiter Costume

yay! it looks awesome guys :)
i'd love to see some steven universe costumes; garnet, pearl and amethyst deserve some cosplay
This tutorial helped me a lot with a Sailor Venus cosplay! Love it 🧡🧡🧡
I think the folded cloth look of the skirt is pretty important to her original design. Otherwise, this is pretty cool.
I was hoping to see the rest of the squad dressed up as scouts already. Thanks for the video on one of the original cosplay icons.
