- The observation tower Näsinneula is known as the tallest free-standing structure in Finland (168 m height), and as the tallest observation tower in the Nordic countries as far, after the closure of Kaknästornet in Stockholm, Sweden in 2018. This tower was built between 1970-1971, and the amusement park Särkänniemi was opened in 1975.
The original brand of these elevators were Valmet-Schlieren, being their tallest installation. They were modernised by Otis in 1997, with a few updates in the machinery, like replacing the motor-generator rectifier (AC-DC) with a more modern components. In recent years, their technologies started more to wear out and the maintenance started to become more expensive, it was decided to replace them some day. However, during the COVID-19 epidemic in Finland, Särkänniemi and Näsinneula tower stayed closed for a bit longer, and so, they had enough time to replace the elevator just before the 2020 season opening, with a smaller number of visitors at a time.
According to the serials, the elevators were not replaced at the same time, the first been replaced a few months before the second one. These elevators have such an amazing cab design, showing awesome animations, with an interesting background music.

A must film if I come one day in Finland. Absolutely incredible elevators.
That’s so amazing!
KONE digital car experience lol, probably a MiniSpace DX. They advertised this on their website!
Hello!
My son's name is David and he is 10 years old.
He loves elevators, planes, trains, buses, and your channel. He sees your channel every day. It would be nice to visit elevators together one day 😊😊😊😊
We live near Espoo!
Thanks!
These elevators are cool. I think the cabs and the elevator music are beautiful and interesting.
Valmet-> Otis (1997?)->Kone
Yes, the modernization was exactly in 1997, I remember it very well. A video from my part of this brand-new replacement should also come hopefully in two more months or when I go there again, because these are special and worth to be documented once again.
@@FinnishLiftFilmer1993 When they modernized Valmet elevators to Otis elevators, they don't replaced motors. Now on this replacement they changed motors and also Ultra ropes.
I am not sure but part of these kind of "tower" elevators has pneumatic brakes? I mean Valmet and Otis era.
@@Jorppo1 Yes so apparently the modernization in 1997 was a very simple one and now they basically replaced everything. Just like when the 1984 Valmet high -speed elevators at the Sokos Hotel Ilves (1986) got modernized by OTIS in 1999 (still had the original interior in golden brass), but remarkably only eight years later got replaced by KONE completely. But we will always remember the history of the elevators in those special buildings.
@@Jorppo1 Yes, that was probably the case too although I am not an expert to tell that. Also right before Näsinneula, according to a text about the history of Valmet, they also got the opportunity to install the six fast elevators at the former Pohjola headquarters in Helsinki, finished in 1969 (also had been the only real 1960s-type with automatic doors by Valmet, in collaboration with the Swiss Schlieren), the main part of which is protected due to its unique architecture, but the main elevators were modernized around 1996 by OTIS, before that having been possibly the most modern elevators in Finland at the time, with rush-hour sensors and such. Hopefully when it will be possible again it will be checked out to see what else they have there, just out of curiosity.
Wow they look awesome 😁, it looks more like you're stepping into a disco than a elevator cab 😂. Are there any videos on RUclips of the Otis elevators that used to be here?
Yes there should be some
Wow! Those call button / display and that cab design are definately some of the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!
