    Excellent video. I'm a lifelong 928 fan and a 911 owner. But one of these days I'm going to get a GTS. Such a great machine. I drove one in Germany back in 2003 and that was an experience I won't forget. The high speed drive was solid like a train. The only car that I've driven that had similar solid feel is the S-Class Mercedes (which is completely different kind of car but you get the same feeling that you could drive it 250 km/h all day long and don't get stressed at all). 928's are amazing quality. Cheers.

      Thanks so much for watching the video! I completely agree with you about how solid the cars feel at speed. They all do by the way. Getting an S4 gives up very little to a GTS frankly. I always tell folks that if you can't afford a GTS then get an '89 S4. 95% of the experience for less than half the price! That said, driving my '92 GTS on the A95 in Germany, between Munich and Austria, was a priceless experience! Just amazing!

    I've owned two 928s, the first one was a '82 (4.5L), and the second one was a '91 S4 (Guards Red). They were two amazing cars. I regret the day that I sold my '91 to some guy from Texas. I saw it once in a car show video and they had installed some funny looking air induction system (YUCK!!) it was my baby....I owned a 996 after selling the '91, and although I loved it, it was no where near the fun it was to drive my 928 :-(

    • @pcar928fan
      @pcar928fan  4 года назад +2

      Larry, I have driven most all the P-cars since the 996 and I agree with you. You have to get to an996 Turbo to really be ahead of a late model 928, and a 997 might be close to an S4. I 997.2 would probably be the first NA 911 step above an S4 or GTS. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll have a 996 Or newer Turbo at some point, but a 928 is hard to beat. They were way ahead of their time!

    The Porsche 928 is the sexiest car ever made. I fell in love at first sight. I love all the different generations as long as it has a manual transmission. I can tell the difference between all the different Porsche's especially the 928. I've ridden in several 911's over the years, and have an uncle with a 70's SC targa. I still hope to be able to afford a 928 some day. Thank you.

      They are certainly great cars! The first Porsche I ever drove was my uncles brand new '84 Carrera Cab! I put several hundred miles on it over the years he had it. What a great car! That said, my '84 928S is certainly faster and more refined than that car was and at the time it was 50% more expensive. Now as a used car it is probably 25% the cost of that 911 cab! Just crazy good deals 928s are these days! Well, except the late model manual trans cars...those are crazy expensive. Especially the GTS!

I read everything I could get my hands on and then filtered it all down to the basics for the program. I ended up getting laid off in ‘09 so I had tine on my hands and figured it was the perfect time to shoot my video. I personally shot it, edited it, researched it, published it…everything. It was a BIG job, but at least I had the time and the ability! Mark sent me about 12 hours of video and I watched ALL of it and edited it down to that 15 min or so. Hi! I‘m commenting about your 1984 ruby red video here because you‘ve turned the comments off on that video. You forgot to mention that Doug deMuro also misunderstood the use of the rear-seat sun-visor! He didn‘t realise that the sun-visor is meant to go BEHIND his head to protect his neck from the sunlight coming in through the rear window. Doug put the sun-visor down in front of his face and couldn’t figure out what the guys at Porsche were thinking when they built it. 🤪 When I watched his video I slapped my forehead and screamed at the computer „It‘s for the back of your head you twat!“ 😲

      As I have mentioned before...I wish I could do that. Back when I made this video I didn't have the technology to turn down the background noise. So the problem in part of the video is wind noise...you can still hear the engine over the wind at some points so I decided to lay music over the top...the A95 drive in the GTS the problem was background music that would have got me a copyright strike so I had to add music over the top or mute the sound on that part of the video completely... There were no good solutions that were off the shelf. I am sure a pro could have done better with it, but that is not me now and especially not back then. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    • @pcar928fan
      @pcar928fan  3 года назад +4

      Derek, I meant to reply to you, and thought I had, but I am not seeing it here. I did not talk about the 5 speed vs auto because I am in a wheelchair and can only drive the auto cars, so I can't really add anything to the debate. It is clear what collectors want...5 speed manual! Is that a better transmission than the auto? Eh, depends on what you are looking for a guess. The nice thing is that the auto does not really hold the 928 back so the price difference between the two should be FAR less than it is at the moment. Also, many have the wrong idea about how many 5 speed cars were produced. I think in every model year at least 30% of the production was manual and for '95 (in the US) nearly HALF were 5 speed. Of course we only received 77 cars for all of North America in that last model year, but you are nearly as likely to come across a 5 speed as you are an auto. Another interesting tid bit is that for the first model year, 1978, only about 10% of cars had the automatic. SO 90% of that first year for 5 speed cars. There was NOT a single year where the reverse of that is true! All the best and thanks for your comment and question!

The 86.5 got the front suspension and brakes from the S4 which is what differentiates it from the 86 and makes it more desirable for sure.

      Not sure what part you are referring to specifically, but there were two problems. While on the A-95 in the ‘92 GTS there was music playing that would have earned me a copy write strike, the on track stuff in the ‘88 S4 the problem was the wind noise. It was UNREAL loud on the recording. I had a helmet on so I didn’t notice. If I had known I would have rolled up the passenger window (they require drivers window be down at our track events.). There are certainly parts of the 928 that are a challenge, like the AC system...those can break a mere mortal. Most of the car is very solid and the parts are much cheaper than Ferrari parts. Anyone with reasonable wrenching skills, a connection to the large and vibrant 928 community and an internet connection can maintain one of these beasts. Best of all the very good ones and most 5 speeds are going up in value right now. Heck a friend of mine has a $10M car collection and his favorite grand touring car is his 5 speed 928 GTS. He used to have a 355 Ferrari but he sold it because he said it was to expensive to maintain. Think about that for a minute. A guy spends $10 million on cars, old, new, exotic, mundane and to him a 355 is too expensive to maintain! Yowza!

      @@pcar928fan Each car buff develops opinions based on their own experience regarding the wonderful world of cars and trucks.
      I have always admired Porsches,
      Ferrari's,and for a time, Mercedes Benz.
      I owned a defense company some years ago dealing with armored vehicles, among other things.
      Before that,I worked with Mercedes Benz Road Racing and MB Trucks.
      I have forever been a great fan of any type of machine from cars,aircraft, battleships, tanks, ad infinitum.
      I admired your zeal with the 928's.
      One of my great friends had two of these,one was a one off red 928 convertible lol.
      I know....Porsche never made a 928 convertible.
      It was a custom vehicle.
      Pretty cool.
      I have about had 45 years of owning European cars,and
      I had a great love for these cars
