0 proof there was an actual affair before they separated in 2017. Ewan got married super young, his early 20s. Mary had been in relationship with her ex-husband since she was 18. They were both so young when they got with their ex-spouses. who you are when you're a teen and in your early 20s is vastly different to who you are in your late 40s and mid 30s. especially Mary, i can not imagine being with some the guy i dated at 18, i didn't know anything about myself back then. one of the many reasons why i don't think people should get married until they're in their 30s, you're way too impressionable in your 20s to form individual personalities separate from your spouse. my parents got married young and now they're miserable together now in their retirement. only reason they don't divorce is because of the financial loss from it, i feel bad that my parents have to live like this.

I think the only problem with this situation is that he didn't officially end his relationship before entering a new one. We can't know what happened between him and his first wife in their personal lives, maybe they've only been a couple in name lately.
If he continues to take care of his children, I see no problems in his new relationship. What should he do if he falls in love with another? Marriage shouldn't be a prison.
