Ryan, sometimes when a standard transmission car sits for too long. The clutch disc sticks either to the pressure plate or flywheel. Jack it up and take a look. A little brake cleaner should help unstick them, if that is the case. Thanks for the video
That car may have been a junk yard for 20 years but it was stashed away and protected. No rust, no dents, perfect interior and not a single part missing. That's too freakin' cool. I watch Junkyard Digs all the time and they are out of Iowa and they are always talking about how brutal winters are and all the salt they put on the roads. 🤔❤🇺🇸🐘 Hey, if you make sure to get bowl full with some chain oil and gas mixed and then when you start cranking, then spray starting fluid holding the spray nozzle about 8 or 10 inches away from the throat of the carb. Nothing wrong with starting fluid. People just need to learn how to use it. PS. I love your videos and I love to see these old cars be saved.
Like the curved rear window. Might be a good idea to keep a tune up kit including points, rotor, cap, and plugs for Chevrolet inline 6s and small block Chevys.
Looks just like the one my great uncle Butler had. He was a bachelor farmer who heated his house near Rake, Iowa with corn cobs. He was a frugal guy, so I'm sure he had a 6 cyl, three on the tree, radio delete too.
Another fun video to watch! I love these "will it start" vids. I always drizzle a little oil on the rockers and pushrods before I start them but don't know if that's better or even necessary, I figure it couldn't hurt.
My mom owned a new 1961 Biscayne just like that one only bright red. I remember riding in it from North little Rock to Houston and back to see family when I was a kid.
235's - all they want to do is run! BTW, I am sure the rockers would've appreciated some lubey-dubey love - PB Blaster, Marvel MO, anything! Seriously though, that sweet ride was in a junkyard waiting to get crushed??? Freakin' heart-breaking!!! Helluva catch! Thank you for saving her!
Nice old '61 Chevy. Not bad really considering it sat that long. Amazing they came without a radio. Great job on these videos and saving these old cars.
40-45 years ago I owned a 61 Impala with 283 and a Powerglide, fourdoor sedan, just loved the style on it. Later I got a 59 Impala flattop with 235 and a treespeed, unfortunately the weather i Denmark is no good for cars, so it rusted away under me, but it was a beautiful car. The one I love most is a 63 two door hardtop. Someday maybe I will find one of these. Yours Mads Behrendt Petersen, Grenhusene 11, 2650 Hvidovre, Denmark. Keep up the good work, Ryan.
That it did. No sense in fixing something that isn't broken. Love the color on that '61. If it wasn't too rusty, I'd be interested in making it a daily driver. Them 6 cylinders are bullet proof.
My mom used to have one of these when I was a kid. It was her 2nd favorite car, behind her Hudson that she got when she was 16. The thing got stolen once, because she never used the key, just left the ignition in the unlocked position and started the car with the lips on the switch. lol And no, we didn't bother locking our cars back then either. This would have been about 1968 or so, so the old Chevy already had some miles on it. Enough so the shifting arms on the firewall were worn, and required getting out and resetting them now and then. ( This is what happened when the car was stolen. The thief only got to the other side of the parking lot when it locked up, and he/she gave up and abandoned it. ) Yeah, the thing was a bit of a mess, but she loved it.
@@IowaClassicCars - It was a short-term theft. The shifting forks locked up before the thief got out of the parking lot, so they only managed to take it about 50 or 60 feet. The police spotted it almost the second they came to take the report, so we were able to drive it home. Mom had it for another couple of years after that, until her husband made her sell it, due to him never being able to learn how to reset those shifting forks when they jammed up. The thing always jammed between gears, in neutral, so once it did that, you weren't going anywhere until you got out, raised the hood and unstuck things.
My favorite GMs were the late 50s through early 60s, I would say you're right about needing a clutch probably why it was scrapped, my one friend and I would go out driving most nights and he had a 71 Datsun station wagon and when I got to his place he told me the clutch slave cylinder went out in the $80 beast recently purchased, so I asked how we were going anywhere, he put it in first and turned the key, after 1st he'd wind it out some and as rpms went down, pulled it into 2nd and slipped right in, same for the rest, it worked because it synchronized gears in the trans, it was a trick I learned that got me through a couple of clutch failure and loved to see peoples faces watching that datsun chug chug chug forward when I was the next $80 car owner of it
That's my kind of car. Back in those days I was a Ford person, but all of the inline six standard shift cars you could get to everything and work on it. Also there wasn't ten miles of wire running to everything. Great cars.

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Why didn't you move it the 2 spots then instead of only 1 and now having to repeat what you did? if you would have moved the plug wires 2 spots from the start like you said it might not have taken you 2 hours to start the car.
That woulda been too easy, but in all honesty its because we couldnt find exact TDC, and the roto was kinda in the middle of 2 spark plugs, and we were 1 off, so we moved it 2 forward in order to possibly work backwords 1 spot if we had to, we had a 50/50 shot and this time it was wrong
