Springs can be a pain on any sort of vehicle or stock, also it's not a bad thing to ask for help mean it shows people the difficulties and the like with preserving history
Appreciate it, I’m just keen to speed this up, the sooner it’s done the better! I just find it awkward asking for donations. In today’s current financial climate…
Volunteering to help Ollie on this project has been a joy and this wagon played a small but significant role in World War 2, which ended 80 years ago this year. It seems fitting to complete the restoration in such a big year for rail. We can do that with the love and support of the community here. The power of communities like this helps keep history alive. Thank you to anyone who can help ❤
@WardleRestorations as a temporary measure could you not remove springs from either the box van or the other wagon you own? Obviously eventually the springs would be done either way but from my understanding the box van, brake and other wagon all in a siding for now and not be moving any time soon but maybe as a temporary measure to progress the restoration it may be an option. Even if just on so the tank can be moved . Just a thought
Leaf spring suspensions are surprisingly strong for what loads they have to bear, but at the same time, it's amazing how easy they can fail. I remember years ago on a heritage railway, one of them failed on a loco whilst it was on the move. It sounded like someone dumping a bag of tools onto the ground. The problem was that one leaf in the assembly had developed a hairline crack, which went unnoticed, and when it did fail, it was like a domino effect. once the cracked one went, the rest in the assembly followed in quick succession. Good luck with the restoration, Ollie 👍.
Thank you mate, yeh I was mostly worried that any slight crack, as you say, will soon cause larger issues. Even if it isnt running at mainline speed anymore!
Its never a bad thing to ask for help, the KWVR Recently finished a full overhaul on the exact same kind of tanker wagon #1854, would highly advise you contact their carriage and wagon department to find out if you may have missed something critical.
Like everyone said man it's ok to ask for help trust me I have a similar project trying to restore a Sinclair C5 and projects like this take time and help from others I don't think anyone here would be mad at you for doing what your doing I always enjoy your videos watching equipment being restored keep at it and hope your doing well Ollie you are a serious inspiration for keeping this stuff alive along with LMM you guys are awesome. Dry and smooth rails for you man.
I don't know if the Severn Valley Railway have any left lying around now as a lot of the leaf springs in storage were in the same condition and were scrapped off. These were worse than the ones you have and were literally dissolving if you touched them.
I did reach out to some railways but no one had any / were keen to part with them. I suppose people would rather have spares for their own stuff which is understandable I guess!
Ollie, Adam and the Team of Volunteers - I have sent a £50 donation to your appeal on behalf of my brother JOHN BURFORD. He hopes that you will be able to add his name to the engraving list of donors. We would both like to send you our best wishes for success in all that you do. Your work in restoration is of great importance in the preservation of our railway history. Kind regards Pauline and John Burford.
Ollie, you're doing the right thing in asking for help. Believe me, if I could spare £50 I'd happily donate it to you. But sadly, I'm on a tight budget. Restoration takes time, so it'll be quite a while before the tank wagon will be restored to its former glory. Don't feel bad about asking for donations, it's funding and that's what hopefully gives the railways a brighter future. There's a light at the end of every dark tunnel, no matter how long it might be. As I say, I'd donate if I could, but I can't spare the cash needed I'm sorry to say. However, my beloved Foxcote Manor is under overhaul and I'm supporting her in the way I know how. Don't be afraid to ask for help with restoration, everyone needs it.
Hi. Now i have no idea about this, but could you borrow a spring off the brakevan or Van ? Just to speed the tank up? On that note how is the brakevan getting on?
Brake van springs are a completely different size! Brake van is still on site, just not in an easy place to access / work on. Plan is to finish it after tank wagon!
Mate that is incredible!! Thank you so much, that’s a huge chunk out of the second spring, will be getting your name stamped in the next couple of weeks! 💚 Thank you for the support as always sir!
Fair enough asking for help but who are we donating to? Directly to you, a company or a charity you have set up? There are tax limits on gifts to individuals. Who owns the wagons in the CVR wagon group, the website doesn't make that clear.

Thank you for the kind words mate!
Nothing wrong for being honest and upfront and asking for a bit of help, no matter what.

I have actually spoken to the owner of 1854! Hope to pay the wagon a visit sometime... Being the sister tanker to mine, 1855

A true man knows when to ask for help, I don't have any money or springs but I'll share your video to discord.
Thank you, even a 'share' greatly helps the cause!
Tank wagon is looking good, nice series of videos, just dropped you a few quid, hope it helps? Keep up the good work.
Hi mate, what was your name on the donation? Did you leave an email?
No harm in asking, sorry I can’t help atm. Good luck with it.
No worries, appreciate you watching the videos anyway!

Hi Graham, thank you so much, it goes along way to getting this next step done! :)

Hi Ollie. please find a super thanks to go towards this. caroline.
Thank you so much Caroline, that is greatly appreciated 💚
Don’t use PayPal. Is there another way to donate?
@@BerylBegbie you should be able to use card instead when it gives you the option of either PayPal or ‘pay by credit/ debit card’! 🙂
Donated!
Thank you mate, really do appreciate it sir!
If I could, I would, Ollie.
It’s fine mate, like I said in the video, it’s not a necessity!
Nowt wrong with asking man, your viewers know how much Hard work there's is to do these things aren't cheap ether....
Very true, just didn’t want to come across as needy! 🤣 I’m surprised how many donations we’ve had, gives the tank wagon lots of hope!

The way we are doing it, the limit is £5k, with a small fee already been taken off each donation 🙂
