I remember people being negative with this album solely because they wanted more TooL and they didn't want to see anyone from that band put their time, effort, and passion into anything else. It was weird. Because this album is/was so amazing I couldn't see how anyone could ignore or dislike it. It's good music. That's all that matters
@destroyrebuild I don't think it's necessarily better, I think it's just different. Of course, better is strictly a matter of opinion. I think this has quite a bit more of a melody, as where Tool has a lot of insanely perfect rhythm and impeccable song structure. I like this for one reason, and Tool for another. A different Tool for a different job so to speak.
Maynard said that he must hear the sounds and music before it brings out his feelings to write the lyrics. And you can clearly tell Billy Howard put together a band that brought out a more vulnerable side to Maynard.
This album is fucking insane. I found it over a month ago and since then ive moved and cant blast music anymore so ive not allowed myself to listen to it much because THE QUALITY OF THE SOUND IS SO BEYOND ANYTHING.. idek how to say it. Im in the middle of babysitting my sibs so i cant make a coherent comment for shit but you have to be able to completely immerse yourself in every instrument and every note or it feels like im just disgracing it somehow. Its so good i want to listen to it all the time but i cant... its too good
I remember as a teenager buying both this album and Baldur's Gate for the PC at the same time, then obsessively listening to the former while obsessively playing the latter. Can't separate the two things in my head now! Listening to this instantly reminds me of wandering the Sword Coast fighting kobolds ^^
