I’ve always loved watching NBA games, but never thought about collecting cards. This video has a lot of good information and I’m super excited to start collecting for myself!!
I find it insane that you take the time out of your day to help people out with cards! Thats true dedication 👏 🙌. Keep up the good work and keep ripping these packs.
I used to collect cards back in the day (early 1990's through the early 2000's). We used to just buy a box at Wal-Mart and enjoy the experience. I get it that people get into this for the investment, but looking up what's in the box and all that takes the fun out of it to me. I get it if the box is several hundreds of dollars; back then the boxes were like $20-$40. I got a lot of joy out of those boxes. When things get popular, companies try to make as much money as they can, and that's why we have these crazy cards that are rare - to drive the price up.
Panini sells most boxes/packs at a reasonable price. The only problem is that if you don't get to Target at 8 AM on Saturday before Dave and Bill (random white guy names), you're stuck either buying 10 card packs, paying double on eBay, or finding a card shop in town where you're still paying 1.2-1.5x retail.
I'm 42. Stopped collecting in 07. Started back up about a year ago. What a joke. Every card is the same except one will be blue one will be pink and so on smh. Decided to just collect the older stuff. Getting Kobe rookies for great prices.
@@CharizardChad funny thing is most of them aren't worth shit. To many. You get a wemby rookie say prizm base I doubt it will ever be worth what a lebron james topps chrome base rookie is. You have to spend an arm and a leg to get a good rare card. Just don't see the return on that.
I've been out of the hobby for 26 years and just needed a catch-up video to get up to speed with the latest in cards. This video was perfect for me since I knew the basics and got to know the current ways to learn about my card options and pricing research. Thanks!
I’ve been in the hobby since like 2nd and 3rd grade but I never new what I was looking for. This will really help in the future. Thank your very much and your channel is great.

I've been collecting a long time over 30 years but u hit on the button more often than not u are better off just identifying what u want and buy it. I've bought boxes for 250$ m got nothing I've also gotten really good cards on n breaks but I've also spent 30$ on break and got nothing when that 30$ could got me a card or 2 I want
I totally agree with you that it takes time to learn how everything works in collecting. I started collecting cards in 2017 but didn’t know much about them. I though it was all about autos but realized there’s more to collecting like parallels, mem cards, short prints, etc. I started watching your channel about a year ago, and since then have been able to learn a little more about collecting each video. Now I know a lot about collecting because of you. Thanks! P.S: Your killin it, 30k subs? Your channel has grown a lot
Currently into collecting Pokémon again, as I did as a child but I also happen to be a sports fanatic who would love to get into this hobby as well. Very informative and I look forward to using some of the information to help me along my journey. Thank you, Packman!

I definitely want to get back into the hobby but can’t find boxes for retail. My local Targets and other retailers get cleaned out by scalpers almost immediately after the boxes hit the shelves. It seems like finding boxes for retail nowadays anywhere including LCS’s is a thing of the past

for context in the clothing industry, any part of the clothing thats not the fabric itself such as the patch, stripe, or numbers can also be called a "trim"
I collected as a teenager in the early 90's, the hobby has changed so much since then. All these patch and guaranteed autos, low quantity yet highly priced boxes and Panini, who I only ever knew as a sticker company, has crushed the old companies that used to make awesome cards and have a monopoly on the market. I honestly don't know what to buy to get the maximum investment/resale value. I know the players I need to find and that's about it. Every time I watch you or other people do box breaks or rip packs it seems like there's a real risk in not breaking even or coming out ahead. I guess if you are simply a collector that's not an issue but the cost is something I can't justify unless I'm flipping cards to offset the high price of the boxes. Still this is a great video and thanks for making it.
Thanks! Yea lots has changed and prices are crazy. Ripping packs is as risky as it’s ever been but it’s still so fun. Overall the hobby has its ups and downs
Easiest breakdown. Prizm=King. Just like topps chrome. Not much of a difference besides all of the variations. Optic and select are somewhat safe. Everything else is a stay away unless you're a pure collector. Don't even get boxes unless its prizm.
Oh yeah and basketball/baseball are profitable. Football is not. Only a few players actually rise like lamar and mahomes. 99% of nfl players are unprofitable even if they go from 500 yards to whatever dalvin cook got.
Great video, Packman! Wish I saw this video about 3 months ago, would have definitely helped me out alot and would have saved me some $. But it was fun, just buying any box and ripping. I think this is a tremendous help to everyone looking to get into the hobby. Thanks for posting this video, bro!
Hey man that answered a lot of questions that I’ve had about the hobby. I just got back into it after about 20 years of being out of it. So much new stuff and really fun stuff. I like how you covered cleaning the cards. I had so much trouble with Mosaic. They are really fantastic looking but they are filthy coming out of the packs sometimes. So cleaning them scraping the glue off without scratching the card has been irritating but I love those cards. Thanks for doing a tutorial and a very informative video.
thanks for your video, i tell people to collect what they like. for me i like to collect the red sox. everything from cards, jerseys, and signed baseballs. it was easy for me because we had the pawsox here and i could meet the young players coming up like ( betts, devers, & dustin) plus past legends like( clemens, boggs& rice).
This was really nice. Sports card market is nuts. I was very into it when I was younger but like you said it really matters who the hot guy is even more so than a good player. I’ve recently gotten back into Pokémon cards but sports cards just scare me to death lol like once that guy isn’t hot anymore the card can plummet
Thanks man ! It’s really helpful Video for beginner like me, just like you, I’m a die hard lakers fan, want to collect all the player card from 05-20, love your video and keep going man ! You are the reason Why I start collection, big love !
This is so good! Just getting into collecting sports cards, mostly from watching your videos. Now because of you I’m gonna spend tons of money :p Question, how do I know when cards are short print?
I think a big thing is to have a clear goal of what you’re trying to collect. When I first started a couple of years ago, I was buying Titans from every product and didn’t really feel fulfilled, leading me to end up taking a break. Started back up around 9 months ago, now collecting only Titans from Contenders. Not only is it satisfying, but it saves me money from going after everything. Nowadays, I’m just as excited to find an obscure player’s card that’s SP I do not have as I am buying a present day player’s cracked ice auto.
This actually helps alot... I've been buying/collecting cards since 2018 prestiege came out, and some of the info here was info I never had so.... thanks
Hey packman, a room tour showing all your cards would be sick. Don't know if you have extra time for it because of Quarantine. Can make it different parts if you have a lot of stuff.

So I've been really preoccuied in the last few years. However, I am now getting some more free time and really enjoying pulling cards already. I just want to be sure I know what is worth buying and not. Your video's have taught me the most in a short period of time!

Great video! My interest in card collecting recently started. My father in law actually passed down some old baseball cards that I looked through. Something you didn’t address, was what so you typically do with all other base cards. Do you keep them and store them?
Thank you for all of this info! I just started and got my first box for Christmas. I got lucky and pulled a shohiei Ohtani ace card. And a Corbin Carrol Rookie Card!
Great video, great tips! Just started collecting and now realizing how expensive it can but, but it's such a fun thing to do... Really have to control myself lmao.
A lot has happened in 7 months. Virtually no shot at finding retail at Wal-Mart/Target/Meijer anymore. Too many flippers trying to get-rich-quick...……..
northwesthoopers this is a good question that I really wanna know the answer to but I don’t think you can tell when they are coming out at target or Walmart but I may be completely wrong
Well man this is a hard question. One thing that you can do is try to find a friendly store employee and try to ask them about when the store gets restocked. Also usually it’s not store employees restocking it’s usually on outside vendor which makes it harder to find out when they restock. I hope I answered your question!
Hey Packman, loved the video and I subbed, but I have a bunch of questions, so please help me out! 1) What card brands are best to invest in soccer? 2) How do you analyze card markets? 3) What do you think of buying cards raw, then getting it graded and selling it? 3a) Also, are buying lots better than individual, raw and graded? 4) If maybe just one corner is a bit off, is it still possible to get a PSA 10 or 9? 5) Is there a checklist I can follow to guarantee PSA 10 grades everytime? 6) How can I get rid of smudges and stuff off the card's surface without ruining it? 7) Can you tell if raw cards are worth a PSA 10 in an Ebay picture? I've got many more, but these are the ones I need most help with! Thanks!
Hey thanks! I’m not sure for all of them but I do like buying raw and then grading. You need it to be mostly flawless to get a 10. Look at the corners, edges, surface, and centering. You can clean with a microfiber cloth. It’s tough to tell from pics
Packman, thank you so much for this video! I greatly appreciate it as I am one of those new people to the hobby. All of this information was awesome for me to learn!
Wow, this is way more complicated than Pokemon ha. Thanks for the video! Just bought a few pack of cards this weekend for the first time and was intrigued by the Hobby.
If you had a guesstimate what you’re collection is worth what would it be?? Over 50k?-100k? I’m curious seemed like you keep a lot of the stuff you pull
Im guessing his collection (just guessing from having seen most of his videos) is probably over $100k, maybe even close to $500k since he probably has some sealed wax too and stuff we havent seen
I'm Curious about the grade of that Zion Silver Prizm. Did you get it graded?is it a 10? I got like the same exact centering as your zion. thanks for the reply keep it up!

Great video! My interest in card collecting recently started. My father in law actually passed down some old baseball cards that I looked through. Something you didn’t address, was what so you typically do with all other base cards. Do you keep them and store them?
Thanks! I usually try to sell base in bulk
Thank you for all of this info! I just started and got my first box for Christmas. I got lucky and pulled a shohiei Ohtani ace card. And a Corbin Carrol Rookie Card!
Is it bad to buy from like a wallmart? Cause like that's the only place I can go to in person
No Walmart is good if you can find anything
Great video, great tips! Just started collecting and now realizing how expensive it can but, but it's such a fun thing to do... Really have to control myself lmao.
Thanks! Hope you have fun collecting!
A lot has happened in 7 months. Virtually no shot at finding retail at Wal-Mart/Target/Meijer anymore. Too many flippers trying to get-rich-quick...……..
Yea shit is a joke
I bought a box of contenders when they had a full self of that an donruss football came back a day later all gone everything
Today at Walmart there was 1 frikin box left... I bought it but I felt bad
It sucks man I checked the local target and the card section was deserted lol
Literally every store around me has NO cards from any sport
Thanks. This helped a lot. Started collecting a month ago. You sir are a solid communicator too. Have a happy new year!
Glad to hear and thanks a lot! Happy new year!
How do we know when new packs are coming out and when can you get the at target and walmart?
northwesthoopers this is a good question that I really wanna know the answer to but I don’t think you can tell when they are coming out at target or Walmart but I may be completely wrong
Well man this is a hard question. One thing that you can do is try to find a friendly store employee and try to ask them about when the store gets restocked. Also usually it’s not store employees restocking it’s usually on outside vendor which makes it harder to find out when they restock. I hope I answered your question!
How can you find out when new hobby is coming out?
Jaime Reyes you can look up the released by searching up “basketball pack release dates” and you should be able to see all of the dates
Cardboardconnection. And you don’t know really. Usually around the release day
Hey Packman, loved the video and I subbed, but I have a bunch of questions, so please help me out!
@@PackmanCards Thanks for the reply! Can an ever so slight fraying of one or two corners still get me a PSA 10? Thanks!
All that wax on the table is such a flex lol.... Love the vids, keep it up!
Haha thanks!
Thanks man. Excited to pick up on my childhood hobby that I loved so much.
I appriciate this videos and the work you put into it
Thanks a lot!
Subbed. I'm new to the game and I've watched about 20 hours of content, and this was the info I've been searching for lol. Ty👊🏾

Thank you, that’s very helpful! When did you start collecting cards?
Np! I started 4-5 years ago
@@PackmanCards what box should I buy chronicles, hoops or illusions
@@liamreeves9427 chronicles or illusions
Damn, so they resell the boxes!? Its a little discouraging because they had nothing, packs included, at Walmart :/
Yup it’s real tough to get stuff rn. Hopefully it’s better next year
Ya I have been collecting in and off for 25 years. Decided to get back in but haven't seen packs in any stores. Gotta hit the lcs.

Chase Delone I don’t think they put your mom in packs
Great video. Ive been using a.i. to get back into collecting and pinpoint what direction to go.
If you had a guesstimate what you’re collection is worth what would it be?? Over 50k?-100k? I’m curious seemed like you keep a lot of the stuff you pull
That’s a good question. Maybe I should look through it and see
Im guessing his collection (just guessing from having seen most of his videos) is probably over $100k, maybe even close to $500k since he probably has some sealed wax too and stuff we havent seen
Thanks man just got into collecting and btw love all your videos
Thanks a lot!
“Purple stars parallel, as you can see it’s purple, and has stars on it”
As straight forward as that is, if I didn’t explain that people would be asking why it’s called that lol
I know 😂
A GREAT video, for new collectors.👍🏻😄
Thanks!
hey i was wondering where i can get my hands on a deck of prizm cards, do you know where i can get them?
Probably ebay
The Walmart right next to me has the mega boxes for 45 bucks a piece. Might wanna just check places like that and target every now and then.
