I'm 42. Stopped collecting in 07. Started back up about a year ago. What a joke. Every card is the same except one will be blue one will be pink and so on smh. Decided to just collect the older stuff. Getting Kobe rookies for great prices.
@@CharizardChad funny thing is most of them aren't worth shit. To many. You get a wemby rookie say prizm base I doubt it will ever be worth what a lebron james topps chrome base rookie is. You have to spend an arm and a leg to get a good rare card. Just don't see the return on that.
I used to collect cards back in the day (early 1990's through the early 2000's). We used to just buy a box at Wal-Mart and enjoy the experience. I get it that people get into this for the investment, but looking up what's in the box and all that takes the fun out of it to me. I get it if the box is several hundreds of dollars; back then the boxes were like $20-$40. I got a lot of joy out of those boxes. When things get popular, companies try to make as much money as they can, and that's why we have these crazy cards that are rare - to drive the price up.
Panini sells most boxes/packs at a reasonable price. The only problem is that if you don't get to Target at 8 AM on Saturday before Dave and Bill (random white guy names), you're stuck either buying 10 card packs, paying double on eBay, or finding a card shop in town where you're still paying 1.2-1.5x retail.
I find it insane that you take the time out of your day to help people out with cards! Thats true dedication 👏 🙌. Keep up the good work and keep ripping these packs.
I’ve always loved watching NBA games, but never thought about collecting cards. This video has a lot of good information and I’m super excited to start collecting for myself!!
I've been out of the hobby for 26 years and just needed a catch-up video to get up to speed with the latest in cards. This video was perfect for me since I knew the basics and got to know the current ways to learn about my card options and pricing research. Thanks!
I definitely want to get back into the hobby but can’t find boxes for retail. My local Targets and other retailers get cleaned out by scalpers almost immediately after the boxes hit the shelves. It seems like finding boxes for retail nowadays anywhere including LCS’s is a thing of the past
I've been collecting a long time over 30 years but u hit on the button more often than not u are better off just identifying what u want and buy it. I've bought boxes for 250$ m got nothing I've also gotten really good cards on n breaks but I've also spent 30$ on break and got nothing when that 30$ could got me a card or 2 I want
is there a pricing guide online? i used to check back in the days via books they had book about prcing that we would buy lol idk how it is now let me know
I’ve been in the hobby since like 2nd and 3rd grade but I never new what I was looking for. This will really help in the future. Thank your very much and your channel is great.
I collected as a teenager in the early 90's, the hobby has changed so much since then. All these patch and guaranteed autos, low quantity yet highly priced boxes and Panini, who I only ever knew as a sticker company, has crushed the old companies that used to make awesome cards and have a monopoly on the market. I honestly don't know what to buy to get the maximum investment/resale value. I know the players I need to find and that's about it. Every time I watch you or other people do box breaks or rip packs it seems like there's a real risk in not breaking even or coming out ahead. I guess if you are simply a collector that's not an issue but the cost is something I can't justify unless I'm flipping cards to offset the high price of the boxes. Still this is a great video and thanks for making it.
Thanks! Yea lots has changed and prices are crazy. Ripping packs is as risky as it’s ever been but it’s still so fun. Overall the hobby has its ups and downs
Easiest breakdown. Prizm=King. Just like topps chrome. Not much of a difference besides all of the variations. Optic and select are somewhat safe. National Treasures/immaculate is very high risk/high reward Some other decent sets like revolution noir contenders and impeccable but very unlikely to profit. Everything else is a stay away unless you're a pure collector. Don't even get boxes unless its prizm.
Oh yeah and basketball/baseball are profitable. Football is not. Only a few players actually rise like lamar and mahomes. 99% of nfl players are unprofitable even if they go from 500 yards to whatever dalvin cook got.
First, thank you very much for this video. I stopped collecting when I was 14 and I'm 44 now. Oh boy how things have changed. So just to clarify, I should be looking for Hobby Boxes?
for context in the clothing industry, any part of the clothing thats not the fabric itself such as the patch, stripe, or numbers can also be called a "trim"
northwesthoopers this is a good question that I really wanna know the answer to but I don’t think you can tell when they are coming out at target or Walmart but I may be completely wrong
Well man this is a hard question. One thing that you can do is try to find a friendly store employee and try to ask them about when the store gets restocked. Also usually it’s not store employees restocking it’s usually on outside vendor which makes it harder to find out when they restock. I hope I answered your question!

Currently into collecting Pokémon again, as I did as a child but I also happen to be a sports fanatic who would love to get into this hobby as well. Very informative and I look forward to using some of the information to help me along my journey. Thank you, Packman!
Thank you for all of this info! I just started and got my first box for Christmas. I got lucky and pulled a shohiei Ohtani ace card. And a Corbin Carrol Rookie Card!

I pulled an autographed Tyler O’Neill card today out of a 2022 Topps Chrome pack. It’s practically worthless but I got chills throughout my body because it’s my favorite team and I’ve watched him play many times. I’ll keep it forever because it’s a memory. I don’t look at any of it as potential to make a profit. What fun is that?
I am not new to collecting and I’ve been watching you for over 2 years now I was just scrolling though your channel and I watched the bit about grading was very helpful.
I think a big thing is to have a clear goal of what you’re trying to collect. When I first started a couple of years ago, I was buying Titans from every product and didn’t really feel fulfilled, leading me to end up taking a break. Started back up around 9 months ago, now collecting only Titans from Contenders. Not only is it satisfying, but it saves me money from going after everything. Nowadays, I’m just as excited to find an obscure player’s card that’s SP I do not have as I am buying a present day player’s cracked ice auto.
Thank you for this! I just got into sports cards as of this week. I have a couple friends and family who watches sports, but only 1 that collects, so my information is really limited.
@@PackmanCards just asking, you don't have to answer, but I have a 2020 panini contenders justin herbert rookie of the year, no signature, silver letters, so you think that will be worth anything, as in being in the 100s dollar mark in the future?

I totally agree with you that it takes time to learn how everything works in collecting. I started collecting cards in 2017 but didn’t know much about them. I though it was all about autos but realized there’s more to collecting like parallels, mem cards, short prints, etc. I started watching your channel about a year ago, and since then have been able to learn a little more about collecting each video. Now I know a lot about collecting because of you. Thanks! P.S: Your killin it, 30k subs? Your channel has grown a lot
Thank you. You we're a huge help today and I learned quite a lot. I've gone into the LCS and most are no help. It like your stepping on toes. Once again. Top drawer. Thank you.
A lot has happened in 7 months. Virtually no shot at finding retail at Wal-Mart/Target/Meijer anymore. Too many flippers trying to get-rich-quick...……..
Mantap! Ternyata terdapat banyak tips dan info yang menarik untuk para pemula yang ingin mulai mengumpulkan kartu olahraga. Seru nih! #SportsCardCollection
Great video, Packman! Wish I saw this video about 3 months ago, would have definitely helped me out alot and would have saved me some $. But it was fun, just buying any box and ripping. I think this is a tremendous help to everyone looking to get into the hobby. Thanks for posting this video, bro!
What do you do with lower tier cards? Like let’s say I buy a blaster box and I get a few good ones but the other 50 cards are nothing special. What do you do with them?
As someone trying to get into cards for the first time I wanted to buy $20 blasters. I have yet to find a single one in Walmart, target, or cvs. Online they cost anyway from $95-$135 for the current year. I don’t know how to start collecting because people sweep all the cards instantly for resale. Is there anywhere the average person can buy a $20 box these days???
So, I'm barely getting into it as well and have bought some singles off of eBay already. Justin Hebert card is my best buy, also graded 10 LaMelo Ball RC. I actually scored 2 blaster boxes at Walmart. Best advice a coworker gave me was go extremely earl, like 7-7:30 a.m.
After seeing that the serial numbers are on the back, im new, i found i have a Duncan Robinson (meh) optic green parallel serial # 37/49. So only 49 out there?! Wish panini had better quality control and I couldn't see 2 attracted and white on back corner when it went straight to sleeve. O well still stoked. Still need to send a relic back to panini after the sweater was pulled and and corner flipped when they packed it. Grrr
If you had a guesstimate what you’re collection is worth what would it be?? Over 50k?-100k? I’m curious seemed like you keep a lot of the stuff you pull
Im guessing his collection (just guessing from having seen most of his videos) is probably over $100k, maybe even close to $500k since he probably has some sealed wax too and stuff we havent seen
Packman thank you for the video really informative, been collecting on and off since 1991, but it is so much more now. What Hobby Box would you be looking for to try to pull some NBA 2023 draft class collectible winners i.e. victor wembanyama?
I'm Curious about the grade of that Zion Silver Prizm. Did you get it graded?is it a 10? I got like the same exact centering as your zion. thanks for the reply keep it up!
I just started card collecting and this really helped! I was also wondering if you sell some of your cards? Because I’m looking to grow my collection and get better cards
What time of year does Panini etc. Release their boxes? Can you just buy the box all year round at your LCS or will Panini make an announcement when they release a new box?
This actually helps alot... I've been buying/collecting cards since 2018 prestiege came out, and some of the info here was info I never had so.... thanks
This was really nice. Sports card market is nuts. I was very into it when I was younger but like you said it really matters who the hot guy is even more so than a good player. I’ve recently gotten back into Pokémon cards but sports cards just scare me to death lol like once that guy isn’t hot anymore the card can plummet
Hey man that answered a lot of questions that I’ve had about the hobby. I just got back into it after about 20 years of being out of it. So much new stuff and really fun stuff. I like how you covered cleaning the cards. I had so much trouble with Mosaic. They are really fantastic looking but they are filthy coming out of the packs sometimes. So cleaning them scraping the glue off without scratching the card has been irritating but I love those cards. Thanks for doing a tutorial and a very informative video.
Great video! My interest in card collecting recently started. My father in law actually passed down some old baseball cards that I looked through. Something you didn’t address, was what so you typically do with all other base cards. Do you keep them and store them?
What sport is best to collect. Best potential at high priced cards? Basketball, football, baseball or soccer. Soccer wasn’t mentioned but it’s huge as well.
Hey packman, a room tour showing all your cards would be sick. Don't know if you have extra time for it because of Quarantine. Can make it different parts if you have a lot of stuff.
Thank you for all of the great information. I have a question for you, or anyone who may have answers. I am a new,I guess I'll say card buyer. So as I have only been collecting for like 4 months. I'm a little confused about the value of cards that have been grated & not graded & the super gap between the two. I guess the question is, how is it that you can open a pack of cards and pullout a perfectly conditioned card & because you haven't sent it to get graded, that card is only worth say 10% of high graded card? Even tho the card just came out of a wrapper,is the difference between the two are that far away I value?
Do different color holos have anything to do with value of the card ? For example I go on eBay and search Lamar Jackson. And he has many cards different Holos? Which should I get?
This is so good! Just getting into collecting sports cards, mostly from watching your videos. Now because of you I’m gonna spend tons of money :p Question, how do I know when cards are short print?
Great video Packman. How do you know when something is a SP/SSP? For example, 20-21 NBA Donruss League Leaders insert, I see these cards listed on eBay claiming it is a SP, but I can't find any reference that says it is.
Awesome video. When they call out different colors like black purple gold are they easy to notice, is it the same in all cards. The design ? Thanks for the help.

Thanks a lot! Yea it’s crazy to think back to my days where I knew so little. The growth over time is so much fun tho!
So helpful !! Thanks so much
Literally just started, this a perfect... thanks bro🙌🏻
Glad I could help!
Thank you. You we're a huge help today and I learned quite a lot. I've gone into the LCS and most are no help. It like your stepping on toes. Once again. Top drawer. Thank you.
Thanks, glad to hear that!
17:53 perfect for me. I needed this. Thank you
Np! Thanks for watching!
So I’m starting to collect cards with my dad and my dad has been doing it Sense he was a kid what are some good cards I should start looking for
Any top rookie cards or rare superstar cards
A lot has happened in 7 months. Virtually no shot at finding retail at Wal-Mart/Target/Meijer anymore. Too many flippers trying to get-rich-quick...……..
Yea shit is a joke
I bought a box of contenders when they had a full self of that an donruss football came back a day later all gone everything
Today at Walmart there was 1 frikin box left... I bought it but I felt bad
It sucks man I checked the local target and the card section was deserted lol
Literally every store around me has NO cards from any sport
Mantap! Ternyata terdapat banyak tips dan info yang menarik untuk para pemula yang ingin mulai mengumpulkan kartu olahraga. Seru nih! #SportsCardCollection
This was great, as an old dog keen to get back into collecting this was very informative 👍 great stuff
Thanks for watching! Glad the vid was helpful!
Thank you for the information. Great video! There are a lot of different products now. Coming back to collecting after 30 years.
This video is very informative, helped me a lot! 😀
Thanks! Glad I could help!
Excellent videos. I wanted to set up my own Local card shop back near early to mid 90s. Yea, miss the boat on that. I could of had ‘‘em all 😂.
Great video, Packman! Wish I saw this video about 3 months ago, would have definitely helped me out alot and would have saved me some $.
But it was fun, just buying any box and ripping. I think this is a tremendous help to everyone looking to get into the hobby.
Thanks for posting this video, bro!
No problem and thanks a lot!
I agree first treat it as a hobby, educate yourself, then look to make money doing this. Thanks for sharing this for beginners like myself!
Np! Glad I could help!
What do you do with lower tier cards? Like let’s say I buy a blaster box and I get a few good ones but the other 50 cards are nothing special. What do you do with them?
I sell in bulk
Packman to eBay or a LCS?
As someone trying to get into cards for the first time I wanted to buy $20 blasters. I have yet to find a single one in Walmart, target, or cvs. Online they cost anyway from $95-$135 for the current year. I don’t know how to start collecting because people sweep all the cards instantly for resale. Is there anywhere the average person can buy a $20 box these days???
Right now, you can find Contenders draft picks (football) blasters on target's site for 20 bucks
Thanks this helped me out a lot a ton of good information to a guy that’s just getting started.....again!!
Thanks! Glad I could help!
That’s a good question. Maybe I should look through it and see
Im guessing his collection (just guessing from having seen most of his videos) is probably over $100k, maybe even close to $500k since he probably has some sealed wax too and stuff we havent seen
What are you using to cover the actual case of the graded cards?
Graded card sleeves
Thank you, that’s very helpful! When did you start collecting cards?
Np! I started 4-5 years ago

Packman thank you for the video really informative, been collecting on and off since 1991, but it is so much more now. What Hobby Box would you be looking for to try to pull some NBA 2023 draft class collectible winners i.e. victor wembanyama?
I’d probably go with bowman u inception although more stuff will be releasing soon!
@@PackmanCards thank you for the reply, can you keep me updated on these releases please sir?
I'm Curious about the grade of that Zion Silver Prizm. Did you get it graded?is it a 10? I got like the same exact centering as your zion. thanks for the reply keep it up!
I haven’t graded it yet but I think it’ll be a 9
Your channel is my first one to subscribe on RUclips I love the content and appreciate your dedication. You made my sports card collecting a fun trip.
Thanks a lot! Glad to hear that!
I just started card collecting and this really helped! I was also wondering if you sell some of your cards? Because I’m looking to grow my collection and get better cards
Np problem! Glad I can help! I do sell some stuff
Packman where could I buy/ trade? I only have eBay, snap, and obviously RUclips
I just got taken to the cleaners by my LCS. $45 for a Prizm Cello and my big card was a RWB Bruce Smith. Walmart had the Cello for $10.
Dang better luck next time
It is a cool hobby I want to get in to this hobby
Definitely do!
What time of year does Panini etc. Release their boxes? Can you just buy the box all year round at your LCS or will Panini make an announcement when they release a new box?
There’s a calendar where they have dates

Just got back into collecting around 9 months ago. Bought a PSA Luka Rookie and have been ripping packs since!
Nice! Enjoy the hobby!
Literally just ordered my first box 2 days ago perfect timing
Chase Delone wtf 😂
Chase Delone rhetorically😂
@@rockydelone3042 bruh your a physco
Nice good luck!
Chase Delone I don’t think they put your mom in packs
This newbie has a lot to learn. This video is right on point. Thanks
Yes the video is solid right!
Thanks! Yea it can be volatile but usually there’s some time to see which way a player is headed
Hey thanks a lot! I’m glad I could help! Enjoy the hobby!!
Great video! My interest in card collecting recently started. My father in law actually passed down some old baseball cards that I looked through. Something you didn’t address, was what so you typically do with all other base cards. Do you keep them and store them?
Thanks! I usually try to sell base in bulk
What sport is best to collect. Best potential at high priced cards? Basketball, football, baseball or soccer. Soccer wasn’t mentioned but it’s huge as well.
All 4 are pretty big right now. Football I’d say is the bottom one though. Basketball and baseball are probably the top 2
hey i was wondering where i can get my hands on a deck of prizm cards, do you know where i can get them?
Probably ebay
The Walmart right next to me has the mega boxes for 45 bucks a piece. Might wanna just check places like that and target every now and then.
Would getting a card signed by someone in person up value? For example a base rc from a sought after player.
For sure! Just make sure you try and get some proof in case you send the card for grading and if they don't think it's legit for whatever reason
Great video, I appreciate the time you put into this for new collectors! Thank you
Thanks! Hopefully it was helpful!
This video was from 2 years ago. Does all this still hold true today or has it changed a lot?
I think most still holds true. Maybe a few small changes at most
Hey packman, a room tour showing all your cards would be sick. Don't know if you have extra time for it because of Quarantine. Can make it different parts if you have a lot of stuff.
It’s too messy and there’s not much to show haha
Thank you for all of the great information. I have a question for you, or anyone who may have answers. I am a new,I guess I'll say card buyer. So as I have only been collecting for like 4 months. I'm a little confused about the value of cards that have been grated & not graded & the super gap between the two. I guess the question is, how is it that you can open a pack of cards and pullout a perfectly conditioned card & because you haven't sent it to get graded, that card is only worth say 10% of high graded card? Even tho the card just came out of a wrapper,is the difference between the two are that far away I value?
My favorite player to collect is Josh Okogie, I couldn’t care less that his cards are worth nothing
I like collecting Jarrett Culvers
G Dubs that’s cool. He seems to be pretty solid, I have a few of his cards, hope he becomes a star.
I collect al Farouq aminus Damian lillards and Malik beasleys
Krish Caulfield Malik Threesley is one of my favorite players
Timberwolves Fan1 okogie can’t shoot for his life
Do different color holos have anything to do with value of the card ? For example I go on eBay and search Lamar Jackson. And he has many cards different Holos? Which should I get?
Yea the more rare ones are worth more
This is so good! Just getting into collecting sports cards, mostly from watching your videos. Now because of you I’m gonna spend tons of money :p
Question, how do I know when cards are short print?
Thanks! Usually the product info will tell you before hand
Damn, so they resell the boxes!? Its a little discouraging because they had nothing, packs included, at Walmart :/
Yup it’s real tough to get stuff rn. Hopefully it’s better next year
Ya I have been collecting in and off for 25 years. Decided to get back in but haven't seen packs in any stores. Gotta hit the lcs.
Cody Ruthrauff they told me to try target and Walmart😂
Great video Packman. How do you know when something is a SP/SSP? For example, 20-21 NBA Donruss League Leaders insert, I see these cards listed on eBay claiming it is a SP, but I can't find any reference that says it is.
“Purple stars parallel, as you can see it’s purple, and has stars on it”
As straight forward as that is, if I didn’t explain that people would be asking why it’s called that lol
I know 😂
What's the best website that shows the card list for every box thats comes out.... an how do I know when does a new box is coming out
I use cardboardconnection
Used to collect football cards at 10 n im 20 now and shit is overwhelming and expensive lol ima just do what I used to do and buy whatevers there
same lol
Awesome video. When they call out different colors like black purple gold are they easy to notice, is it the same in all cards. The design ? Thanks for the help.
Thanks! It’s different with all cards but usually distinguishable
I appriciate this videos and the work you put into it
Thanks a lot!
