Very interesting Fred. As people suggest try a couple of other meters to confirm it's reading high. If possible do another video with results. Thanks again Fred.
Interesting that you’ve uploaded this - I’ve been thinking of buying the Surecom SW102S; which comes with the SMA Male to PL259 adapters. Great video Fred as always.
Nice review but i always wonder about power meters as without calibration the readings are subjective. It's best to see if you can get a calibrated source from a friend to use to map the characteristics to get a graph and then you can have confidence in the readings. But for just comparison it seems perfectly good.
Your testing setup looks good, but the values look high. My TD-H8 radios are around 9 watts and my H3 radios are a little over 4 watts. Suggest you try a TinySA Ultra and see what you get on the fundamental and harmonics. My SA readings compared favorably with my power meter.
Owning the 5R, the Quansheng I was always under the impression they were 10w radios for whatever reason. How ever I am not surprised these cheap handles are hooky in tx power (provided of course the meter is in anyways near accurate)
I'd have bought a shortish cable with the right plugs to cut out resistance/noise from all the adapters, it's more manageable on a cable and stresses the sockets less. They're silly cheap from Ali if you can wait a week.
Actually n connectors is a good sign as most serious ham applications 430 megs and up use n connectors for lower loss. Bnc are basically the same design.
Should have got the surecom sw-33 Fred. Cheaper, accurate, no faffing about with adapters. That thing is deffo reading way too high. Just conducted the exact same test on my surecom sw33 (tidradio TD-H3 on pmr446 ch11) On high power I got 5 watts and on low power I got .77 of a watt. Throw it in the bin Fred...it's junk 😲☹️👎 Your testing method was fine. I did mine into a 25 watt 50 ohm dummy load the exact same as yours.
Going to a high point up the a10 tonight for a pmr net we have a few people dotted about tonight in cambs you might be able to hear me Fred, I will be the other side of Caxton
@@CB-RADIO-UK I can get 35 miles on a tiny dipole but bought a comtrak and got all over the UK a couple of weeks ago, somebody said there is a lift coming this weekend, it's funny my mate who is 5 miles north of Cambridge spoke to a guy in his back garden on a handheld in Wigan. I do sideband in the day and we use pmr for locals as fm is noisy
You did the test right. That meter is way off. Maybe you can meet up with Andy Kirby and compare to better meter . Them meters do cost some $$ .Way more than the CB ones. ML & S has some great meters in the store but I think they a drive for you .They will ship to you but meters will cost for UHF /VHF . It is the same way in the US as well with them meters. There is no peak power on FM . That a clue that meter is a poor one. I don't know if Knights has VHF/UHF meters. They have some nice CB and HF ones . Cheers from NY !!

I think you need a known source measured on high quality equipment. Just a meter with a name and no comun. red dot label. For the price you could have bought a reliable instrument 51 pounds is a lot for that instrument.

Hi. Yeah that would work but i do not have any other meters that work on this freq.

Only way to find out is to have another power watt meter and try ? good video Fred !
Great video Fred 👍🏼
Good stuff, Bubs.

Fred, can't you use that big swr meter on top op the tranceiver!? With all the adapters you got it might work???
Hi. Sadly not as its HF freqs only.
@CB-RADIO-UK oh... bummer...

Cool! :)
In some radios a lot of high power harmonics on Tx beyond the main frequency
Hello Fred if you want real accuracy invest in a Bird 43 or Telewave meter. You can pick up a used one in vgc for a reasonable price.
Looked like it was done right ?? Good vid.

No way to know for sure Fred how accurate it is but at least you can compare relative power between your radio's.
True

nice test mate but who tests the testers? lol
Nice video Fred but I think that meter is telling porky pies for sure , but keep up the good work 👍
Yeah thats what i thought. Cheers.

Not sure where that is. I ve being doing tests this week and did a 8.5 km contact no issue.

Oke what about the redot testing on youre yeasu compere it by that if it reading the correct stuf watt or power
The Watt meter doesn't cover the HF Band only 80Mhz and above upto 900Mhz unfortunately so you would get a crazy false reading.😢
We are getting quite a group on pmr in my area
It does seem to be growing. Got another couple of high power radios in to test.

Yes did all that.

Those readings are definitely on the high side.
Look at the surecom meters. 14 Watts can Not be. It will burn up the Radio nearly instantly.
That ReDot is miles off... It's a shame, I like the look if it, but it's not even in the ballpark. Your test method was fine.
if you can't compare it is no test at all

Fair point. What reliable £50 meter would you recommend for people to buy ?
Any link for that £50 meter ?
@ i posted earlier today. I guess YT didn't like it.
On radioworld search SX-40
I tried three times to post a link in several ways but YT deletes it.
