The only real problem I have with this is how Shadow's story, the best part of the original game, is pretty much entirely written out. "Why risk your lives for those who will persecute you later?" "If the world chooses to become my enemy, then I will fight like I always have."
I find Shadows original part obnoxious. It has a few good bits, but honestly creates more questions and holes than it sounds. The ending is also brain melting if you had played all the games to that point, but hadn't seen SonicX. Since the inhibition ring things weren't set up in the games till that moment. Which is a problem with his whole play style. It doubles down on his own game, but adds bits that makes him even slower. Definitely an agree to disagree thing. Just because he has the best arc, and it puts a bow on the last 4 games. It still isnt good.
The issue with that story is the promise makes no sense. The world ends and everyone decides to blame Shadow and not the giant fire monster obliterating everything. Uh.. okay? What, did someone see Mephiles and just assume he was Shadow because nobody learned anything from Sonic Adventure 2/they're just really racist against hedgehogs? Come on.

Other plot hole (ok it's not exactly a plot hole it's just something that's not explained): do humans exist in this universe? Since GUN is a thing, but there aren't any in the plot, so does this mean Humans aren't canon in this world or something?
man, Omega kinda has a lot of potential to be a pretty great character, they really don't do enough with him. also, this really shows how he could be be a pretty decent foil to Sonic, they don't get enough screentime together in official media.
I love the way you substituted Blaze in for Elise, it just makes too much sense to have a Fire/Sun Diety have something to do with the Princess of FLAMES with SOL emeralds.
Omega was already a fan favorite character, and somehow you made him even MORE beloved. Omega has so much potential to be a character with depth and more personality than he has in the Canon games, (sorry if someone has said this already), but Sega hasn't tapped into that gold mine yet. Also, Silver, *chefs kiss* this seemed like a Silver fan's (such as myself) DREAM Sonic 06! The precious little cinnamon roll was such a main character with so much personality! And I love his friendship with Blaze, it makes a significant amount of more sense than 06's interpretation that contrasts with Sonic Rush. Overall, wonderful job!!!
Here's an additional idea, which could further streamline the story: Silver wasn't from the future at all, but rather the present Sol Dimension, which was ravaged by Iblis when Blaze was whisked off, carrying only a small piece of the flames with her. This explains why Silver's world was devastated by flame, and neatly divides Mephiles and Iblis into places where they can't easily merge. The reason the Chaos Emeralds are needed at the end of the story is because they can help to merge the two dimensions and allow Mephiles and Iblis to be in the same place. That way there's no possible confusion between the 06 and Rush canons, and there's an explanation for how Mephiles got Silver into his position.
You know its a good story when you can visualise everything that happens at any moment, what got me was imagining Eggman screaming his head off when Omega has a minigun pointed at him. And honestly, you can do a pretty good silver. Would like to see it in a official game, if the series could even continue for much longer that is.
Although I personally miss this type of content, I think this is a great way to send it off. I love your take on this game, the best I've seen in my humble opinion.
Ok at the end of this rewrite, when I heard that including metal in the Solaris fight I Immediately thought he was going to turn into metal overlord and start throwing hands with Solaris.

I'm one of those weird folk who actually thought Sonic 06's story was decent (not good, decent) Silver's and Shadow's campaigns have a good amount of....well good to them and I still think this is Shadow's last well written game. That being said there is still a *lot* of stuff that can be imporoved. I have seen this this series in recommedations and stuff but haven't really watched any parts and just waited for connected compilation like this. I'm interested to see how you would improve things.
I enjoyed 06's story as well actually! Also I like how intimidating the villains were written and I think that the story does a decent build up to the final boss battle. Of course, the story is not perfect but it's batter than whatever story we've got in Sonic forces and generations.

Actually It’s good for the franchise because there are loyal fans that make the sonic franchise better than it ever was before. And the fans a big proof of that.
I mean, this isn't a new phenomenon? There are plenty of media that messed up somewhere down the line and fans take it upon themselves to fix what they think was bad. Dare I say it's becoming more common now than ever.
Stranger yet, we're out here unironically praising Sonic fanfiction. I'm not sure if this is the best timeline or the worst timeline, but it's definitely the weirdest timeline.
Blaze: i've been looking for Amy for a while now.... Sonic: oh crap, I forgot about her! Tails: i.... didn't, but i figured she'd be ok. Knuckles: she made us crash, so i couldn't care less.
Blaze was perfectly fine in her introduction in Sonic Rush as a MC yet Sega (in they "infinite" wisdom) decided to retcon her backstory for no (good) reason just to put her in 06, reduce her role to being a support character for Silver and kill her off near the end lol! It's kinda a miracle Blaze still remains a somewhat popular character after Sega retroactively tried to ruin her.
I don’t know if it was an active attempt more like people just don’t know what the hell they’re talking about but yeah for the most part I agree with you honestly sometimes it feels like sonic 06 was trying to cash in on kingdom hearts but we all know how that turned out
If we were to combine this story with P-06’s gameplay and mechanics, we’d actually just have the definitive version of 06. It fits into the timeline, keeps my favourite 2D Sonic game relevant and has some of the best 3D gameplay in the series. I need to see this made at *some point.* I don’t care how long it takes, I *NEED* it.

Still holds as your best version of Sonic 06. I still think Mephiles could've been more involved in the story and I think some do fill like filler characters as Amy was small and Rouge & Omega are just there, along with Eggman himself. Despite tha, you are quite good with storytelling. ^^
I would have liked to do an episode Mephiles, but he was more the puppet master rather than an active force. He set up the game and everyone else fulfilled the conditions

Literally 3 days ago I was wondering, "wow, these garrulous64 compilation videos are pretty cool, I wish he made one for the sonic 06 rewrite but since the rewrites are dead that's probably not gonna happen" and now THIS is uploaded. (Also, I know that the way I described this sounds like one of those bad children cartoons where they try to explain the thought of a character and end up making it seem like he thinks like a robot, but that's only because the video came out like 32 seconds ago, and for some reason whenever I'm commenting early in a video for some reason I just write stuff that doesn't make any sense despite the fact that I literally never care to be the first one to comment)
During the final boss fight, I can see eggman using Metal to communicate with team Super while Rouge, Omega, Amy, Tails and Knuckles, each take a super and handle ring collection duty, using Eggman to tell their particular super when they have rings for them
Omega is easily the sassiest character and I love it. Apparently Shadow's favorite food is anything mobile or hot pockets which I can respect, anyway this a fantastic rewrite and am quite happy with it. One thing I don't remember coming up though is why Mephiles took Shadow's form, either way this was fun to listen to.
Omega really is a underutilized comic relief presence in the franchise. We only ever see that aggressive sass in the Comics, Archie and IDW. I truly don’t understand what he isn’t like this in the games. (Not including heroes obv)
I really love this story, although I still have a weird appreciation for the original since I feel like that really pushed Shadow's character and team dark as a whole while in this story he's just kind of, himself, and that's it. Although the original story had WAY more plot holes than this one, I mean, it was rushed since literally in the first cutscene there's already a plot hole in like, the first 18 seconds (that being when Elise gets a flashback that is actually a flashforward to silver in the future even though she never met silver beforehand and silver never stood that way in the future) and basically the entirety of Sonic's story sucks, it just sucks, while this story feels much more complete and while I said Shadow's character doesn't get pushed nearly as much ad the original game he's still in character, everyone is in character, Sonic is his cocky self, tails is tails knuckles is the more energetic of team sonic, rouge is more... I don't know how to describe it other than saying "it's in character" Silver is basically just as good and well developed as he should be, since you really get the feeling that he's gonna do everything to have a good future, but at the same time doesn't want to cause damage to anyone, blaze is just as good as she was in sonic rush, Amy is neither too useless, neither too aggressive, she's just in character, mephiles is really the only character I'd say was better in 06 since from the way you wrote him sounds a bit More... Generic "villain that manipulates everyone into doing what he wants" if that makes any sense. (And you know I gotta mention Omega, you basically took his "sassy robot" character and just went all out with it, he's funny as hell, every sentence that comes out his "mouth" is pure gold) and also the gameplay changes you've applied sound pretty fun and fitting. (Especially the revamped Solaris Boss fight, like it's not even funny how much better it is than the original) Overall, I would give this story an 8/10. It has both elements better and worse than the original, but at the end of the day, it's an obvious improvement over the original. (Also I really like how you kept really good continuity with sonic rush, kinda wish sega would care a bit more about continuity in this series.)

@@firestriker3580 that's not a good mindset to have lol. To just say "the original sucks, there's nothing good about it" is a really bad way to criticize it in my opinion, especially because the original game did have good story elements and cool moments, there's a reason why many people still think team dark's portrayal peaked in this game, because the shadow storyline is simply unforgettable because of how well it treats it's character while at the same time bringing something new to the table. Silver's story is also good, it has a few glaring issues but it's still not bad, again, silver became a fan favourite character and it certainly wasn't because of sonic rivals. And that's not even mentioning Mephiles, he's generally regarded as one of the best villains in the series because of how different and unique he is compared to every other sonic villain. Like it or not, there's good things about 06 and there's nothing wrong with pointing those out, just like there's nothing wrong with pointing out the many issues with it, but to demonize the game and act like it's irredeemable and has nothing good in it... It's just stupid and I wish people would stop doing that.
This story has a lot of good points, I particularly like the Omega sass, but I think something that gets overshadowed is how Metal Sonic captures Amy when under Mephiles' control. It's such a smart callback to CD.

I think the story has quite a bit of good moments with shadow i love Mephiles as a villain silver plot idea is a good one I think thepjshow gives the best examples for the characters
I was with you all the way originally when you said you were Canceling Princess Elise, I had no connection to her and thought she was just a very boring ass character....Then I saw Story Surgery's version of Rewriting Sonic 06 and I actually enjoyed his version of Elise, for one he managed to actually make her an actual character (which I suppose when you start from a base line of nothing, adding anything is a step up), he also made Elise a Dove and I thought that was cute >w< I still think both versions have their own merit, so I thought of my own version mixing the two... I started off with a little bit of Retconning cause I figured this is my own version of the Sonic series, I might as well do what I want...Sonic's World is a interdimensional Mobius Strip. If you were to look at it from Space it would just look like a normal Spherical Planet, but if you move fast enough along the surface of the planet at a certain point rather than moving into the next hemisphere of the same planet you cross into an entirely different half of another planet/alternate dimension. Then if you travel around that hemisphere you'll eventually jump back to where you would have originally ended up on the previous world, so you end up running across 4 different halves of 2 combine worlds to get back to where your starting point. In this version the Sol dimension was originally exclusively the Furry dimension and the other half was originally the Human dimension but over...however long they have been merged... populations have crossed between the two initially by complete accident but over time people figured out how this Mobius world works which is why there are long runways around the worlds, you have to travel fast enough on the surface of the planet to cross worlds which makes Sonic the perfect person to Run between two worlds. In this story Blaze is still a princess but she was adopted by the royal family of Solena, maybe she was from a fallen kingdom, maybe her beginning is more humble, that's a story for another day. As they grew up together Blaze was trained to be the protector of her sister Elise, (Kinda like Impa and Zelda) the family thinking that Elise would end up becoming the next flame guardian, however on the day she was supposed to be chosen the flames picked Blaze instead! Elise was outwardly happy for her adopted sister but secretly envied her and wondered if there was something wrong with her that she was denied the power that was passed down through her family, The Duke starts working on the Solaris Project, but when it fails Solaris is split into 3 parts: The Mind/Smoke "Mephiles" which bonds itself to the body of the Duke, The Soul/Light "Innerste", which attaches itself to Elise, and The Power/Flames "Iblis" which does not entirely bond to Blaze yet, Blaze may have taken in some of Iblis's power but couldn't control the new excess of power and gets flung into the Future! The rest of Iblis is contained in a Torch in the present and is kept in check through a yearly ceremony to let the flames breath for a whole night but if they are allowed to burn too long or left contained for too long then they go wild! Note:The Chaos Emeralds are no longer able to Time Travel. Only the power of Iblis can enable Time Travel. Blaze has to absorb parts of Iblis or somebody carrying the Torch that contains Iblis can use Time Travel but the emeralds might help aid...maybe they help the user control when they end up? Also you can only jump as far back as Solaris's fracture and as far forwards to when Iblis exists in the future.
I'm fine with this version of 06 not having a romantic subplot, but a part of me wishes there was one between Silver and Blaze. Sorry, I really like Silvaze
I love the part where Omega feigns threatening Eggman's life to snap Metal Sonic out of Mephiles' control. I knew it was a facade but I still loved the twist.
I liked the video but I think having Sonic "die" in the end would still be more powerful. Like imagine Blaze run up, Mephiles targets her, but Sonic pushes her to the side, and he is struck instead. She stops, and everyone looks at Sonic in shock as he collapses onto the ground. Blaze, angry by what happened to a friend, unleashes her anger and loses control. The flames grow out of control, and Mephiles becomes one with Iblis using the chaos emeralds, throwing them into the abyss. It is a similar mission to the game where everyone has to collect the chaos emeralds using the sol emeralds this time (something Blaze isn't exactly happy with but accepts). The mission turns out the same (no kiss) and Sonic is brought back to life in Super Sonic form like in the game. Sonic gives them their super forms; Blaze, Shadow, Silver, and Metal Sonic like in the video. This would show that instead of Sonic always saving the day that sometimes his friends have to come forward and do heroic things. Of course what do I know? I am just a viewer. I still love this video regardless!
Omega is wonderfully in the middle between in character and out of character in this rewrite, and I am 100% making it canon in every possible bit of media I interact with now that he will say to someone: "Bold words for someone within gatling gun range."
This was an awesome re-write but the only two problems I had with it was the lack of Team Dark being together and the lack of Super Knuckles being there otherwise great job!
This was awesome and if someone remakes Solaris's Boss Fight I would love it to be just as described here. (Also thank you Garrulous for Finally giving Sliver A meaningful story with a really great beginning and a much better ending. Also giving a reason why Sliver and Blaze are always together in future games because we all know Sega won't do it.)
I love this! Exactly how it the game she be treated back them if they weren’t rushed with not only the game design, but the the whole story behind it. It only couple of things I’d would like to workshop is one, as awesome the idea of Metal Sonic going Super, I feel like it’s unnecessary, and two, Mephiles’ physical appearance cause in the actual game, Mephiles absorbed Shadow’s shadow when they first met to look like him, so how would he look like Shadow’s copy if he hadn’t met Shadow until the end of this story? Above all, Gray job on rewriting the whole game! 👍👍
I swear, your rewrites are my new canon. There were several scenes that made me shiver (which is rare for me). These characters are also excellently written.
I only recently got into Sonic, but I can say that Omega is my 5th favorite Sonic character, behind Tails, Tangle, Whisper, and Jewel (from 1st to 4th in that order). That sassbot is such a treasure, and I love to see all of the beautiful fan lines for him.
Honestly after seeing her return in that Silver art in the sonic channel, I kinda wanna see a rewrite where Elise is changed to be a child. Fixes a lot of things about her character tbh
This is really good! It feels like a follow-up to Adventure 2’s story! I just have some criticisms: It feels like Mephiles’ connection to Shadow was erased. Why does Mephiles still take on Shadow’s form at first when he never went inside his shadow in this story? Also, did Blaze’s parents ever seal him in a Scepter of Darkness? I know they sealed Iblis inside Blaze, but it seems like Mephiles was just always free to wreak havoc. I know 06’s story was far from perfect, but I was able to enjoy it because of its high points such as Shadow and Silver’s stories. Still, this is a vast improvement and it makes me wish that the OG game was delayed so a couple more drafts could be written and the story could be perfected (Along with all of its MANY other issues, of course). Great stuff!
There's already someone that animated the first cutscene with sonic tails and knuckles chasing eggman and metal sonic taking tails, although the guy who animated it says that he doesn't plan on doing the whole thing (he plans on maybe doing 2 more) it's still cool seeing there's already someone tried to do it.
i think Mephiles shouldn't have excuse of not using chaos emeralds from the get-go. i think that's the point: he can, but he won't so he can manipulate, break mentally, and have sadistic fun with this world.
It's too big of a plot hole if he COULD use them but doesn't. This character to me plans every action from the start to get what he wants because he knows everything already. Time traveling at will allows him to set up the board as he pleases. If he was doing it all for fun and could get thr emeralds whenever,, he would know that he's willingly taking a loss by messing around. To me, this guy doesn't play games.
@@Garrulous64 in my opinion, the reason why Mephiles doesn't straight up do the thing is sadism. reasons are that he could have easily use the same attack as he did to kill Sonic to kill Elise, that would work out, and if not Elise, literally anyone/anything that holds Iblis and the fact he manipulates Silver into killing guy he could have easily killed himself. those are two main reasons, and there's bonus one of him trying to break Shadow Mentally. sorry for Comment's length by the way.

I'm watching a lot of Sonic 06 rewriting videos cuz I'm doing the same exercise of trying to fix 06 story with minimal changes. Most of these videos are 1+ hour long, its not an easy feat, but I'll say this. 06 story is easier to fix and achieving something great out of it than trying to do the same with Lost World, Forces, Boom and even Frontiers. (Btw not to brag but my rewrite fixed Elise and made her likeable)
If it helps, I thought Knuckles was well utilized in the plot. He had the idea of the Master Emerald sending the others back to the present, realised the Chaos Emeralds were still functional after Blaze's health was unstable, and that the Sol Emeralds could bring Blaze back from the brink of death.
@@Garrulous64 Another thing I felt worked was most of the dialogue. Maybe a few areas were clunky, but you had everyone very much in character. Silver and Blaze in particular were very on point.
I really like how you changed the original story, but I feel like you just carried some aspects from the original and left them as they are, while changing other aspects in the story that were crucial for these things I mentioned earlier. To put it more simply: the way you handled Mephiles is good, but in the context of this story some changes are necessary. For example, you explained why Mephiles looks like Shadow. That's great and all, but it raises other questions, like: "Did he merge with Shadow's shadow to gain this form like in the original, or can he just transform into others at will?" because if it's the latter then "Why didn't he transform into anyone from the Sol Dimension? Was he really just a weird floating shadow the whole time, including when he sent the data to Eggman? And if he did transform into someone from the Sol Dimension, why did he switch to Shadow while in the future of the Sol Dimension?" And if it's the former it raises the questions of "When did he do that?" and "Why Shadow specifically?" In the original '06, Mephiles looking like Shadow served two purposes: confusing Silver for his encounters with Shadow (which we do get here), but also establishing him as Shadow's nemesis. After Shadow sealed him in the Scepter of Darkness 10 years ago, Mephiles remembered Shadow's form, so when he was freed he copied that same form (it helped that Shadow was right there so he didn't have to go look for him) for some good karma. Mephiles and Shadow constantly butt heads with each other in the original, but here they NEVER INTERACT. Another thing is Mephiles never being stated to be sealed, instead just "being there". Mephiles being sealed and then freed was literally the main driving plot of '06, even more than the Flames of Disaster storyline, since without Mephiles interfering (through sending Silver back in time) that storyline would have just ended in an anticlimactic way. And since in this case Mephiles is the one who MADE Eggman start his Flames of Disaster plan, that still doesn't explain how (if he was just a shade) or why only now (if he had a physical form). All of these problems can be fixed with a few small changes: have Mephiles mention being sealed and recently freed, and have Mephiles take BLAZE'S FORM instead of Shadow's. (And yes, that would mean Mephiles would be feminine in this version of the story. Deal with it.) In your rewrite, Mephiles is Silver's nemesis rather than Shadow's. Silver's fight with Blaze is also not too different than his fight with Shadow (in terms of circumstances). Cool, let's play with that. The beginning is the same except with Mephilaze (she would still be called Mephiles but I call her Mephilaze to avoid confusion). She's a dark shade of purple rather than gray to justify Silver mistaking Blaze for her. Silver's fights with Shadow and Blaze are as before, except now he just tries to take Shadow's Chaos Emerald without the Mephiles confusion (which gets carried over to the Blaze encounter). Silver and Blaze form an alliance and eventually encounter Mephilaze. Silver asks her what's the big deal, and she drops the ball about how she lied to him about being the last one. Blaze asks who she is and why does she look like her, to which she responds with some vague answer like "Why do you think no one can escape their shadow?" or something before transforming into her crystalline form and fighting the two. After her loss she retreats, having another fight or two with them over some shiny rocks before the big ultimatum scene. (Forgot to mention - she goes around recruiting Metal Sonic and stuff as usual). In the big confrontation, when Eggman says "So it was you, not Nega, who sent me the information", Mephilaze says something along the lines of "Oh, you can still thank your counterpart for all of this. After all, he's the reason I'm free." She then gives a big lore dump; She explains about Solaris and how it was a multiversal deity, and how it was separated into two using the combined power of the emeralds of both dimensions (which explains why a Sol Dimention deity would need the Chaos Emeralds to reach its true form). She tells them that one half of Solaris was sealed within the then Sol Queen and inherited by her descendants, while the other was sealed in a magical artifact known as the Jeweled Scepter (not only foreshadowing Rush Adventure, but also drawing parallels with the Master Emerald and Chaos). Apparently Eggman Nega recently tried to harness the power of the Scepter, unknowingly releasing Mephiles (in its shade form) who immediately went looking for its other half. When it found Blaze as the seal of Iblis, it decided to secretly merge with her shadow to gain a physical form, and then stalk her while starting to set up the big plan. Blaze isn't having any of that and attacks Mephilaze, who's like "LOL no" and kills her with a laser beam. The rest of the story goes out identically to your version. Sorry for the long paragraph, just felt the need to point out the few things that bother me in this story rewrite and how I would fix them.
Kinda wish the time travel would pull a sonic cd reference and just pull out a time stone or two lmao. Sonic: where did you- Eggman: did you really expect me not to return to little planet? Sonic: yeah but it- Eggman: it just went further out to try to put some space between us. Sonic: Shoot. *get’s time traveled* The chaos control at the end could possibly send the one or two stolen time stones back to their rightful places.
I'm so impressed with how you've managed to take the story in such a great direction, but the highlight of this for me is still "Unstoppable blonde force of pure sparkles". I've been cackling for five minutes.
This is absolutely perfect!!!! The only thing I would do differently is silvers super form. Since he's from the soul dimension, so I think it be a fun twist for Blaze to be surprised by silver going super with the Sol emeralds instead, you could even have him tint pink like blaze and call him Rose silver like rose gold lol
honestly another change I would make is to eggman nega first the name - I 'd change it too the Yoke King origin - he is from the sol dimention from a rival kingdom trying to take it over blaze's the look - reminisant of his alternate counter part but more like a royal king get up just like eggman he uses and army of robots but they look more steampunkish with glowing orbs that act as a power source (may be the power of the soul is much more important in blaze's dimention and may be it is how the beings there have varing ablites that is tide to their soul and affects their personality) Yoke Kings could be like illusion power - to just like eggman overwhelm his oppenents and conquer what do you think about it what are your ideas
Honestly, for how great this story is, I think it does Shadow a disjustice without his great scenes with team Dark and Mephiles he feels a bit less complete in this story. I guess that’s what you have to sacrifice though for a much better story

The only real problem I have with this is how Shadow's story, the best part of the original game, is pretty much entirely written out.

I find Shadows original part obnoxious. It has a few good bits, but honestly creates more questions and holes than it sounds.
The ending is also brain melting if you had played all the games to that point, but hadn't seen SonicX. Since the inhibition ring things weren't set up in the games till that moment. Which is a problem with his whole play style. It doubles down on his own game, but adds bits that makes him even slower.
Definitely an agree to disagree thing. Just because he has the best arc, and it puts a bow on the last 4 games. It still isnt good.
The issue with that story is the promise makes no sense.
The world ends and everyone decides to blame Shadow and not the giant fire monster obliterating everything. Uh.. okay?

Man, Omega is the highlight of this story. Eggman can't do much right, but he did manage to make the sassiest robot on Earth.
Watching the whole thing back, Omega's lines had me laughing every time. I really enjoyed writing him.

Omega was already a fan favorite character, and somehow you made him even MORE beloved. Omega has so much potential to be a character with depth and more personality than he has in the Canon games, (sorry if someone has said this already), but Sega hasn't tapped into that gold mine yet. Also, Silver, *chefs kiss* this seemed like a Silver fan's (such as myself) DREAM Sonic 06! The precious little cinnamon roll was such a main character with so much personality! And I love his friendship with Blaze, it makes a significant amount of more sense than 06's interpretation that contrasts with Sonic Rush. Overall, wonderful job!!!
Here's an additional idea, which could further streamline the story: Silver wasn't from the future at all, but rather the present Sol Dimension, which was ravaged by Iblis when Blaze was whisked off, carrying only a small piece of the flames with her. This explains why Silver's world was devastated by flame, and neatly divides Mephiles and Iblis into places where they can't easily merge. The reason the Chaos Emeralds are needed at the end of the story is because they can help to merge the two dimensions and allow Mephiles and Iblis to be in the same place. That way there's no possible confusion between the 06 and Rush canons, and there's an explanation for how Mephiles got Silver into his position.
Huh neat wait would it make more sense to have the soul emeralds along with the chaos emeralds to merge the dimensions together?
Honestly both 06 and the Rush games would've been better (in terms of continuity) if they just left Blaze in the Sol dimension imho.

You know its a good story when you can visualise everything that happens at any moment, what got me was imagining Eggman screaming his head off when Omega has a minigun pointed at him. And honestly, you can do a pretty good silver. Would like to see it in a official game, if the series could even continue for much longer that is.

Ok at the end of this rewrite, when I heard that including metal in the Solaris fight I Immediately thought he was going to turn into metal overlord and start throwing hands with Solaris.

I'm one of those weird folk who actually thought Sonic 06's story was decent (not good, decent) Silver's and Shadow's campaigns have a good amount of....well good to them and I still think this is Shadow's last well written game. That being said there is still a *lot* of stuff that can be imporoved. I have seen this this series in recommedations and stuff but haven't really watched any parts and just waited for connected compilation like this. I'm interested to see how you would improve things.

I enjoyed 06's story as well actually! Also I like how intimidating the villains were written and I think that the story does a decent build up to the final boss battle. Of course, the story is not perfect but it's batter than whatever story we've got in Sonic forces and generations.

Blaze was perfectly fine in her introduction in Sonic Rush as a MC yet Sega (in they "infinite" wisdom) decided to retcon her backstory for no (good) reason just to put her in 06, reduce her role to being a support character for Silver and kill her off near the end lol!
It's kinda a miracle Blaze still remains a somewhat popular character after Sega retroactively tried to ruin her.

Still holds as your best version of Sonic 06. I still think Mephiles could've been more involved in the story and I think some do fill like filler characters as Amy was small and Rouge & Omega are just there, along with Eggman himself.

Literally 3 days ago I was wondering, "wow, these garrulous64 compilation videos are pretty cool, I wish he made one for the sonic 06 rewrite but since the rewrites are dead that's probably not gonna happen" and now THIS is uploaded. (Also, I know that the way I described this sounds like one of those bad children cartoons where they try to explain the thought of a character and end up making it seem like he thinks like a robot, but that's only because the video came out like 32 seconds ago, and for some reason whenever I'm commenting early in a video for some reason I just write stuff that doesn't make any sense despite the fact that I literally never care to be the first one to comment)
During the final boss fight, I can see eggman using Metal to communicate with team Super while Rouge, Omega, Amy, Tails and Knuckles, each take a super and handle ring collection duty, using Eggman to tell their particular super when they have rings for them
Omega is easily the sassiest character and I love it. Apparently Shadow's favorite food is anything mobile or hot pockets which I can respect, anyway this a fantastic rewrite and am quite happy with it. One thing I don't remember coming up though is why Mephiles took Shadow's form, either way this was fun to listen to.

I really love this story, although I still have a weird appreciation for the original since I feel like that really pushed Shadow's character and team dark as a whole while in this story he's just kind of, himself, and that's it. Although the original story had WAY more plot holes than this one, I mean, it was rushed since literally in the first cutscene there's already a plot hole in like, the first 18 seconds (that being when Elise gets a flashback that is actually a flashforward to silver in the future even though she never met silver beforehand and silver never stood that way in the future) and basically the entirety of Sonic's story sucks, it just sucks, while this story feels much more complete and while I said Shadow's character doesn't get pushed nearly as much ad the original game he's still in character, everyone is in character, Sonic is his cocky self, tails is tails knuckles is the more energetic of team sonic, rouge is more... I don't know how to describe it other than saying "it's in character" Silver is basically just as good and well developed as he should be, since you really get the feeling that he's gonna do everything to have a good future, but at the same time doesn't want to cause damage to anyone, blaze is just as good as she was in sonic rush, Amy is neither too useless, neither too aggressive, she's just in character, mephiles is really the only character I'd say was better in 06 since from the way you wrote him sounds a bit More... Generic "villain that manipulates everyone into doing what he wants" if that makes any sense. (And you know I gotta mention Omega, you basically took his "sassy robot" character and just went all out with it, he's funny as hell, every sentence that comes out his "mouth" is pure gold) and also the gameplay changes you've applied sound pretty fun and fitting. (Especially the revamped Solaris Boss fight, like it's not even funny how much better it is than the original)
Overall, I would give this story an 8/10. It has both elements better and worse than the original, but at the end of the day, it's an obvious improvement over the original. (Also I really like how you kept really good continuity with sonic rush, kinda wish sega would care a bit more about continuity in this series.)

To just say "the original sucks, there's nothing good about it" is a really bad way to criticize it in my opinion, especially because the original game did have good story elements and cool moments, there's a reason why many people still think team dark's portrayal peaked in this game, because the shadow storyline is simply unforgettable because of how well it treats it's character while at the same time bringing something new to the table. Silver's story is also good, it has a few glaring issues but it's still not bad, again, silver became a fan favourite character and it certainly wasn't because of sonic rivals.
And that's not even mentioning Mephiles, he's generally regarded as one of the best villains in the series because of how different and unique he is compared to every other sonic villain.
Like it or not, there's good things about 06 and there's nothing wrong with pointing those out, just like there's nothing wrong with pointing out the many issues with it, but to demonize the game and act like it's irredeemable and has nothing good in it... It's just stupid and I wish people would stop doing that.

This story has a lot of good points, I particularly like the Omega sass, but I think something that gets overshadowed is how Metal Sonic captures Amy when under Mephiles' control. It's such a smart callback to CD.

I was with you all the way originally when you said you were Canceling Princess Elise, I had no connection to her and thought she was just a very boring ass character....Then I saw Story Surgery's version of Rewriting Sonic 06 and I actually enjoyed his version of Elise, for one he managed to actually make her an actual character (which I suppose when you start from a base line of nothing, adding anything is a step up), he also made Elise a Dove and I thought that was cute >w<
I still think both versions have their own merit, so I thought of my own version mixing the two...
I started off with a little bit of Retconning cause I figured this is my own version of the Sonic series, I might as well do what I want...Sonic's World is a interdimensional Mobius Strip. If you were to look at it from Space it would just look like a normal Spherical Planet, but if you move fast enough along the surface of the planet at a certain point rather than moving into the next hemisphere of the same planet you cross into an entirely different half of another planet/alternate dimension. Then if you travel around that hemisphere you'll eventually jump back to where you would have originally ended up on the previous world, so you end up running across 4 different halves of 2 combine worlds to get back to where your starting point.
In this version the Sol dimension was originally exclusively the Furry dimension and the other half was originally the Human dimension but over...however long they have been merged... populations have crossed between the two initially by complete accident but over time people figured out how this Mobius world works which is why there are long runways around the worlds, you have to travel fast enough on the surface of the planet to cross worlds which makes Sonic the perfect person to Run between two worlds.
In this story Blaze is still a princess but she was adopted by the royal family of Solena, maybe she was from a fallen kingdom, maybe her beginning is more humble, that's a story for another day. As they grew up together Blaze was trained to be the protector of her sister Elise, (Kinda like Impa and Zelda) the family thinking that Elise would end up becoming the next flame guardian, however on the day she was supposed to be chosen the flames picked Blaze instead! Elise was outwardly happy for her adopted sister but secretly envied her and wondered if there was something wrong with her that she was denied the power that was passed down through her family,
The Duke starts working on the Solaris Project, but when it fails Solaris is split into 3 parts: The Mind/Smoke "Mephiles" which bonds itself to the body of the Duke, The Soul/Light "Innerste", which attaches itself to Elise, and The Power/Flames "Iblis" which does not entirely bond to Blaze yet, Blaze may have taken in some of Iblis's power but couldn't control the new excess of power and gets flung into the Future! The rest of Iblis is contained in a Torch in the present and is kept in check through a yearly ceremony to let the flames breath for a whole night but if they are allowed to burn too long or left contained for too long then they go wild!
Note:The Chaos Emeralds are no longer able to Time Travel. Only the power of Iblis can enable Time Travel. Blaze has to absorb parts of Iblis or somebody carrying the Torch that contains Iblis can use Time Travel but the emeralds might help aid...maybe they help the user control when they end up? Also you can only jump as far back as Solaris's fracture and as far forwards to when Iblis exists in the future.

I love the part where Omega feigns threatening Eggman's life to snap Metal Sonic out of Mephiles' control. I knew it was a facade but I still loved the twist.

For a game named Sonic The Hedgehog, the story weirdly focuses on Blaze more than Sonic himself.
The original was more focused on Shadow and Silver. Sonic had the most ignorable part of the story.
I can tell, I can't even remember most of Sonic's actions in the story.
He just chases Eggman around for a couple hours
I liked the video but I think having Sonic "die" in the end would still be more powerful. Like imagine Blaze run up, Mephiles targets her, but Sonic pushes her to the side, and he is struck instead. She stops, and everyone looks at Sonic in shock as he collapses onto the ground. Blaze, angry by what happened to a friend, unleashes her anger and loses control. The flames grow out of control, and Mephiles becomes one with Iblis using the chaos emeralds, throwing them into the abyss. It is a similar mission to the game where everyone has to collect the chaos emeralds using the sol emeralds this time (something Blaze isn't exactly happy with but accepts). The mission turns out the same (no kiss) and Sonic is brought back to life in Super Sonic form like in the game. Sonic gives them their super forms; Blaze, Shadow, Silver, and Metal Sonic like in the video. This would show that instead of Sonic always saving the day that sometimes his friends have to come forward and do heroic things. Of course what do I know? I am just a viewer. I still love this video regardless!
The way you integrated Metal Sonic into this story was actually brilliant, and a perfect way to pick up his character after Heroes.
Omega is wonderfully in the middle between in character and out of character in this rewrite, and I am 100% making it canon in every possible bit of media I interact with now that he will say to someone: "Bold words for someone within gatling gun range."
He is my favorite character to write for!

This was an awesome re-write but the only two problems I had with it was the lack of Team Dark being together and the lack of Super Knuckles being there otherwise great job!

(Also thank you Garrulous for Finally giving Sliver A meaningful story with a really great beginning and a much better ending. Also giving a reason why Sliver and Blaze are always together in future games because we all know Sega won't do it.)

It only couple of things I’d would like to workshop is one, as awesome the idea of Metal Sonic going Super, I feel like it’s unnecessary, and two, Mephiles’ physical appearance cause in the actual game, Mephiles absorbed Shadow’s shadow when they first met to look like him, so how would he look like Shadow’s copy if he hadn’t met Shadow until the end of this story? Above all, Gray job on rewriting the whole game! 👍👍

I only recently got into Sonic, but I can say that Omega is my 5th favorite Sonic character, behind Tails, Tangle, Whisper, and Jewel (from 1st to 4th in that order). That sassbot is such a treasure, and I love to see all of the beautiful fan lines for him.

This is really good! It feels like a follow-up to Adventure 2’s story! I just have some criticisms: It feels like Mephiles’ connection to Shadow was erased. Why does Mephiles still take on Shadow’s form at first when he never went inside his shadow in this story? Also, did Blaze’s parents ever seal him in a Scepter of Darkness? I know they sealed Iblis inside Blaze, but it seems like Mephiles was just always free to wreak havoc.
I know 06’s story was far from perfect, but I was able to enjoy it because of its high points such as Shadow and Silver’s stories. Still, this is a vast improvement and it makes me wish that the OG game was delayed so a couple more drafts could be written and the story could be perfected (Along with all of its MANY other issues, of course). Great stuff!

i think Mephiles shouldn't have excuse of not using chaos emeralds from the get-go. i think that's the point: he can, but he won't so he can manipulate, break mentally, and have sadistic fun with this world.
It's too big of a plot hole if he COULD use them but doesn't. This character to me plans every action from the start to get what he wants because he knows everything already. Time traveling at will allows him to set up the board as he pleases. If he was doing it all for fun and could get thr emeralds whenever,, he would know that he's willingly taking a loss by messing around. To me, this guy doesn't play games.
@@Garrulous64 in my opinion, the reason why Mephiles doesn't straight up do the thing is sadism. reasons are that he could have easily use the same attack as he did to kill Sonic to kill Elise, that would work out, and if not Elise, literally anyone/anything that holds Iblis and the fact he manipulates Silver into killing guy he could have easily killed himself. those are two main reasons, and there's bonus one of him trying to break Shadow Mentally. sorry for Comment's length by the way.

I'm watching a lot of Sonic 06 rewriting videos cuz I'm doing the same exercise of trying to fix 06 story with minimal changes. Most of these videos are 1+ hour long, its not an easy feat, but I'll say this. 06 story is easier to fix and achieving something great out of it than trying to do the same with Lost World, Forces, Boom and even Frontiers.
(Btw not to brag but my rewrite fixed Elise and made her likeable)
If it helps, I thought Knuckles was well utilized in the plot. He had the idea of the Master Emerald sending the others back to the present, realised the Chaos Emeralds were still functional after Blaze's health was unstable, and that the Sol Emeralds could bring Blaze back from the brink of death.
I definitely still like some ideas from this, but they are too loosely tied together. Thanks for appreciating some of it!
@@Garrulous64 Another thing I felt worked was most of the dialogue. Maybe a few areas were clunky, but you had everyone very much in character. Silver and Blaze in particular were very on point.

I really like how you changed the original story, but I feel like you just carried some aspects from the original and left them as they are, while changing other aspects in the story that were crucial for these things I mentioned earlier. To put it more simply: the way you handled Mephiles is good, but in the context of this story some changes are necessary.
For example, you explained why Mephiles looks like Shadow. That's great and all, but it raises other questions, like: "Did he merge with Shadow's shadow to gain this form like in the original, or can he just transform into others at will?" because if it's the latter then "Why didn't he transform into anyone from the Sol Dimension? Was he really just a weird floating shadow the whole time, including when he sent the data to Eggman? And if he did transform into someone from the Sol Dimension, why did he switch to Shadow while in the future of the Sol Dimension?" And if it's the former it raises the questions of "When did he do that?" and "Why Shadow specifically?"
In the original '06, Mephiles looking like Shadow served two purposes: confusing Silver for his encounters with Shadow (which we do get here), but also establishing him as Shadow's nemesis. After Shadow sealed him in the Scepter of Darkness 10 years ago, Mephiles remembered Shadow's form, so when he was freed he copied that same form (it helped that Shadow was right there so he didn't have to go look for him) for some good karma. Mephiles and Shadow constantly butt heads with each other in the original, but here they NEVER INTERACT.
Another thing is Mephiles never being stated to be sealed, instead just "being there". Mephiles being sealed and then freed was literally the main driving plot of '06, even more than the Flames of Disaster storyline, since without Mephiles interfering (through sending Silver back in time) that storyline would have just ended in an anticlimactic way. And since in this case Mephiles is the one who MADE Eggman start his Flames of Disaster plan, that still doesn't explain how (if he was just a shade) or why only now (if he had a physical form). All of these problems can be fixed with a few small changes: have Mephiles mention being sealed and recently freed, and have Mephiles take BLAZE'S FORM instead of Shadow's. (And yes, that would mean Mephiles would be feminine in this version of the story. Deal with it.)
In your rewrite, Mephiles is Silver's nemesis rather than Shadow's. Silver's fight with Blaze is also not too different than his fight with Shadow (in terms of circumstances). Cool, let's play with that.
The beginning is the same except with Mephilaze (she would still be called Mephiles but I call her Mephilaze to avoid confusion). She's a dark shade of purple rather than gray to justify Silver mistaking Blaze for her. Silver's fights with Shadow and Blaze are as before, except now he just tries to take Shadow's Chaos Emerald without the Mephiles confusion (which gets carried over to the Blaze encounter). Silver and Blaze form an alliance and eventually encounter Mephilaze. Silver asks her what's the big deal, and she drops the ball about how she lied to him about being the last one. Blaze asks who she is and why does she look like her, to which she responds with some vague answer like "Why do you think no one can escape their shadow?" or something before transforming into her crystalline form and fighting the two. After her loss she retreats, having another fight or two with them over some shiny rocks before the big ultimatum scene. (Forgot to mention - she goes around recruiting Metal Sonic and stuff as usual). In the big confrontation, when Eggman says "So it was you, not Nega, who sent me the information", Mephilaze says something along the lines of "Oh, you can still thank your counterpart for all of this. After all, he's the reason I'm free." She then gives a big lore dump; She explains about Solaris and how it was a multiversal deity, and how it was separated into two using the combined power of the emeralds of both dimensions (which explains why a Sol Dimention deity would need the Chaos Emeralds to reach its true form). She tells them that one half of Solaris was sealed within the then Sol Queen and inherited by her descendants, while the other was sealed in a magical artifact known as the Jeweled Scepter (not only foreshadowing Rush Adventure, but also drawing parallels with the Master Emerald and Chaos). Apparently Eggman Nega recently tried to harness the power of the Scepter, unknowingly releasing Mephiles (in its shade form) who immediately went looking for its other half. When it found Blaze as the seal of Iblis, it decided to secretly merge with her shadow to gain a physical form, and then stalk her while starting to set up the big plan. Blaze isn't having any of that and attacks Mephilaze, who's like "LOL no" and kills her with a laser beam. The rest of the story goes out identically to your version.
Sorry for the long paragraph, just felt the need to point out the few things that bother me in this story rewrite and how I would fix them.
All this exposition is kinda boring though. This lore should be found in codex entries you collect through gameplay, not just a big lore dump.

This is absolutely perfect!!!! The only thing I would do differently is silvers super form. Since he's from the soul dimension, so I think it be a fun twist for Blaze to be surprised by silver going super with the Sol emeralds instead, you could even have him tint pink like blaze and call him Rose silver like rose gold lol

first the name - I 'd change it too the Yoke King
origin - he is from the sol dimention from a rival kingdom trying to take it over blaze's
the look - reminisant of his alternate counter part but more like a royal king get up
just like eggman he uses and army of robots but they look more steampunkish with glowing orbs that act as a power source (may be the power of the soul is much more important in blaze's dimention and may be it is how the beings there have varing ablites that is tide to their soul and affects their personality) Yoke Kings could be like illusion power - to just like eggman overwhelm his oppenents and conquer

Honestly, for how great this story is, I think it does Shadow a disjustice without his great scenes with team Dark and Mephiles he feels a bit less complete in this story. I guess that’s what you have to sacrifice though for a much better story
