    Minor detail, the first harmonic is the fundamental, the second harmonic is the first overtone🤓

      yo i always mix the terminolgy up :D:
      1 × f = 440 Hz - n = 1 - 1st partial - fundamental tone - 1st harmonic
      2 × f = 880 Hz - n = 2 - 2nd partial - 1st overtone - 2nd harmonic
      3 × f = 1320 Hz - n = 3 - 3rd partial - 2nd overtone - 3rd harmonic
      4 × f = 1760 Hz - n = 4 - 4th partial - 3rd overtone - 4th harmonic

      @@PolarityMusic I thought a partial was a non-integer multiple of the base frequency? Are partial and harmonic synonyms?

    • @PolarityMusic
      @PolarityMusic  6 месяцев назад

      @polycrystallinecandy afaik kinda yes, there are synonyms! i think partial is just the term for "a sine part" of a sound. Most sounds are constructed (or can be constructed) out of multiple sines. just guessing :D

    • @VirtualModular
      @VirtualModular 6 месяцев назад

      Yep the terminology is confusing. A partial is any sine, but generally harmonic refers to a multiple of the fundamental, and partial is taken to mean inharmonic, i.e. frequencies that are not related to the fundamental. So harmonics are partials, but partials aren't harmonic. I've confused myself now 😂

    Thank you for walking thru different use cases! Really appreciate the GRID tie ins!

    Go to resonance knob type in value. 1/harmonic (leave the percentage unit). Hit enter. Copy that value. Double click resonance to reset.
    Go to filter frequency. Add a / after frequency, paste the number you got from the resonance knob. Enter. It should, if the decimals had enough places, give you the harmonic as a new cut off.
    The basic idea is Bitwigs type in value doesn’t multiply, so you need to get the reciprocal and divide the cutoff by that.

    Kraftwerk played with this key tracking in the bass sequence of "The Robots" very creatively, they even did an additional melody just with the carefully set resonance and cutoff. Minimoog also had 2 nice key tracking switches which I love :)

    Hey Robert, vielen dank for the videos - they're great! Quick question (and apologies if it's a stupid one or something you've already covered): is there a way to extract the dominant pitch from audio so that you could do similar pitch tracking stuff on that? I know this can be a bit hit-and-miss but as someone who works mainly with audio I'd be really interested to know if this is possible with the fx grid.

    Actually might be able to save my bass sound in a mix with this. Was trying distortion but this is much more surgical and doesn't influence the character much. Thanks!
    I have one question. So the saw wave at 0:52 sounded pretty bad. It looks like there's not a steep enough filter at the Nyquist for Polymer and also Poly Grid synthesizers. I already tried Sallen-Key filter but it doesn't work unless I go all the way down to around 10 khz. Any ideas what to do about this? I already tried 96khz sampling rate, it gets a bit better but CPU won't handle that for my projects.

    Seems like a good idea to build this stuff in the Grid just to be able to pump up the Q limit.

    • @PolarityMusic
      @PolarityMusic  6 месяцев назад +8

      you can right click in polymer on the filter and change the Q-Limit

    Dig it; I'm low key mad though they changed how the key tracking module works. You used to be able to set the root note much more easily, not having to just go off of C3. Confused on why they made that change.

    Thank you.
    Can this technique be used to make something similar to the soothe2 plugin? It suppresses exactly the frequencies need. For example, for Vocals. Of course this can be done with a simple equalizer, but Soothe2 does it more accurately.

    EQ-keytracker-trick: Why 60? 🤔

    • @PolarityMusic
      @PolarityMusic  6 месяцев назад +2

      I guess 60 semitons up and down from C3 equals to 120 semitones. And with 12 semitones for each octave this equals to 10 octaves. which is probably the upper and lower boundary of the Bitwig pitch system. just guessing :D

    • @AndrewDuncanNZ
      @AndrewDuncanNZ 6 месяцев назад

      Maybe 64 is more accurate, since there are 128 midi notes from 0 to 127?

      @@PolarityMusic Ah, yes 🙂 They even say to set it like that "for a broad frequency" control in the Keytrack+ help panel. Whatever that means, lol.
      I really have to learn to think for myself oneday… ☺

    Interesting, I always thought keytracking was unipolar and relative to whatever the Cutoff is currently set to but clearly here that's not the case
