Abusive relationships always start like that, he say some bad stuff and you ignore, he hits you and you forgive him... you are just telling him it's okay to treat you like that and things gets worse and worse, until one day he won't stop. Never accept any type of abuse, fisical or emotinal, if a guy can call you names and hold you against your will, he can also do much worse.

FOR FUCKING REALS. This was exactly the reason why I could never get into this drama. I remember trying to watch this all those years ago as a young teen, and I knew that this was not for me because of his abusive behavior--it's honestly disgusting. I was also frustrated with how the FL was given little to no agency when it came to dealing with this asshole. This dude doesn't need a girlfriend, he needs therapy.

I feel so bad for Jandi and she deserved so much better throughout the series. To end up with someone who is so violent, gets easily jealous if you have male friends and can’t even trust you is hell on earth. And the fact that he gets aggressive with her too. She lied sure but it was literally just a picture they took and she’s allowed to hang out with other guys that aren’t him or f4. The fact that he couldn’t even look at the photo and tell her she looked good or anything and only thought to be angry with her shows he’s not cut out for a relationship. Poor jandi :(

I totally liked this K-drama a lot, I must say , but can we just talk about the fact that Jandi let Junpyo bit the model until to the point he was bleeding, couldn't she have stopped Junpyo ?or at least tried to? instead she waited and watched everything until she finally said something.

But this drama is really toxic, like forcing a guy to suicide, bullying a girl, almost getting her raped, trying to buy her from the money, spreading her pictures and rumours that she slept with a guy and had abortion, parents forcing her to be with him cause he is rich, her choosing him even though he treats her like trash. All this is really toxic and lowkely looks like a fanfiction. And there's also a forced kiss sequence if I am not wrong.

I saw BOF the moment it was released and I was a teenager at that time. Back then, F4 and Junpyo were so cool in my eyes, but after rewatching it now I see that they were quite toxic, abusive... I know Junpyo couldn't articulate his feelings well but if I was Jandi, I would so choose someone else over him...

I was a big fan of this drama before (when I was still in my teen age years). I've probably watched it almost 3 times and introduce kdramas to me. But as I grow older I realized how toxic almost all of the relationships here. All the bullying, the cheating and the fighting for the girl even though they were best friends. Honestly, I can't watch this show again because of the scenes that are cringy or if not upsetting.

Okay so:
I watched this summer 2014 and I remember loving it. It started my kdrama passion and I would recommended to everyone. I listened to the OST, I cried my worse heartbreak to those songs and fell in love again, and all along, the songs accompany me. In a nutshell, this drama was extremely meaningful to me.
Fast forward 2020 watching this plus other clips, I realized how terrible everything and everyone are!!! Ugh! From the classmates to the F4, to poor Jandi, the only guy I kind of endured is the orange hair guy but even he isn’t doing anything to stop violent Jun Pyo!!! The only reasonable one was the model and he was beaten the crap out of.
This drama is terribly toxic and I would not recommend it because we shouldn’t normalize abuse, jealousy and violence

It seems Junpyo can kick any person's ass with no legal reprecussions. The victims of his rage don't seem to get timely medical care. Suspension of disbelief gets stretched to the breaking point with scenes like this.

This is honestly her best moment of the series. The one time she pushes him away for his toxic af behavior and seems to move on with her life.
And people said that this is one of the best kdramas ever. No, actually is one of the worst. The male protagonist is toxic, the plot is basic (poor female protagonist and rich male protagonist), also we have fucking amnesia. There is a lot of kdramas with toxic male protagonist and all the girls are so in love with them. In the other hand, there is a lot of kdramas with better plot and with a non-toxic relationship but of course you prefer a man that scream, hit walls and grab you by the neck. Sorry if you like this drama but is the truth.

This is a old drama so society now may think that way bc we are more aware of these topics now, and know it’s rlly wrong to romanticize toxic relationships but back in the day, “toxic” wasn’t rlly a relevant thing people cared about. But I totally understand where ur coming from
This drama was based on 90s Japanese manga comic "Hana Yori Dango". And back in the 90s, this storyline hasn't become basic yet. That manga was one of the first which portrayed rich guy and poor girl. After that, other mangas and dramas followed it and this plot became common. Also, this drama was one of the first dramas which made Hallyu wave and K-drama popular, that's why it might not be the best by today's standard, but it's a legend.
I always thought it strange how they brushed all the bullying that happened in the first few episodes under the carpet as if nothing had happened.
me as a kid didnt even realized junpyo was being toxic and admired him in the drama bc of how "cool" he was but growing up istg this is why ladies get hurt bc they settle with men who arent "stable" enough to be in a relationship in the first place . the moment you chose junpyo instead of jiho is the moment your attraction to toxic men started.

Guys , don't think Junpyo is a bad guy. He is just can't articulate his true and unabashed feelings for Jandi. He also doesn't know how to control his jealousy. As the show, "Boys Over Flowers", goes on it gets better. This is on netflix. As well as the Chinese remake "Meteor Garden", I believe, which is just as awesome! 🤗 I hope everyone will enjoy these ! They are awesome series'

I watched this drama 8 years ago and hated him so much. I just couldn’t understand how this drama with a male lead who is physically abusive towards his girlfriend and everyone around him could be so famous. Glad I am finally seeing people talk about how toxic he really was.
How come it took so many years to understand that Junpyo was super toxic? At least I'm glad that I understand it now. What Haje said was totally right and Junpyo got angry and kicked the shit out of him because he knew he was kinda wrong but he wasn't mature enough to accept it. Everyone is talking about how Jun Pyo was abusive, overcontolling, possessive Jandi shouldn't have chosen. him some people also went has far as making F4 as F3 .I know that he shouldn't have beaten Haje and pulling Jandis collar was bad ,but why is no one talking about how he changed? Haje even kidnapped Jandi in the later episode, he was send by Jun puys Mom to create all this mess. Jun pyo was first abusive but later he totally felled and changed for her. He even went against his Mom for her. This drama has one of the best character development.
I think almost all commentaries are related with the fact that we don't have to justify this type of behavior, because in the reality the guys who have this kind of problems don't change because of one person, they change because they realize that something it's wrong with their behavior and it takes them a lot of time to make real changes (no like in the dramas).
This type of dramas can make you believe that you can be in a relationship with someone who has a lot of problems and for love, you can resist everything and ¡NO!
Maybe he loves you, but the way he loves it's not in a healthy way, so you have to avoid it prioritizing yourself and your stability.

I don't care what people say, but I have watched more than 30 dramas and this drama remains in my top 3... idk there is something special about this drama. I just love it sooo much some parts are toxic and cringy and I do agree but it gets better and better... it is just iconic. period.

1. Frist of all, this drama came out 11 years ago. The mindset was different. If you watch recent dramas, you will see the difference.
2. Partriachy was a normal thing in every East, South East Asian family. We even have a word to describe it as a character of a man. So what you now described as a toxic relationship was a normal thing in asia.
3. Why were this drama so hyped? Like I said, IT WAS 11 years ago and with the 'patriachy' thing, it was like a fairytale for ALMOST every girl, that their boyfriend is a powerful man, who treats everyone like dirts except for his girl - his one and only love. It's like every other teen series, there's only one special girl. Everyone want this special spot.
4. Jun Pyo never violent Jandi when they were in a relationship. He hurted her emotionally but not physically. Plus, again, with the mindset back then and the fact that the main male roll has the An-Asshole-To-Everyone Character and he's rich and good looking. It is logic that he has to hurt the girl and still being forgive.
6. 11 years ago, people didn't like that instant-noodle hairstyle of him either.
absolutely nothing to do with patriarchy (which is normal almost everywhere) and everything to do with how messed up junpyo's character and his relationship with Jandi was. Just becuse it was 11 years ago, there shouldn't be a discussion about it now? Like almost everyone else in the comment when I first show they show I loved it. Two years ago I attempted to re-watched it and realized that the entire drama from the directing, to "romantic" storyline wasn't good.
@@Leira4 I personally don't think it is smart to interpret a story without knowing the context. The key word is "judging with context". That's what most people here are missing. It's just not fit, very judgemental with a bit of ignorance when using only the point of view in 2020 without considering the one in 2009 to judge if a relationship healthy or not. I cannot say, that my grandparent's or my parent's relationship were toxic just because in 2020 women can talk back to their husband if they want. And just like that, my mom and my grandmother shouldn't say that I am insolent just because I think I can talk back to my husband. I read the comments and there were a lot of them saying how they cannot stand this drama and their toxic relationship, one even said that he/she didn't understand why the drama was so hyped. All of these kind of comments didn't show any deeper understanding of culture, the way people think and act in the past, ect.. they just complaint and judgement, and this shouldn't happen, because it could/will turn the originally purest, nicest intention into something very very dark. That's why I wrote the comment. That's why I said stop complaining. I would say that Junpyo is very controlling, I wouldn't say he's abusive (because he has never hurted Jandi physically). It's 2020 and I am definitely gonna stay away from guys who act like that. It's one of the sign that warns a toxic relationship with someone, who could in the future constantly shows patriarchal behavior. So yeah, it does have something to do with the patriarchy thing.

I haven’t watched this drama in so long, but Junpyo rly is soo toxic, idc if they’ve had cute moments, he always jumps to conclusion, disses any guy she becomes friends with, blames her for everything, puts his hands on her, manipulates her into thinking she’s the bad guy all the time, and like haje said, he doesn’t trust her. She just deserves better, honestly.

This drama traumatized me, I never rewatched it again. I only watch clips here on YT because I love the actors. The abuse she faced from him in the name of "crazy love", his mom also terrorized her and her family, his violence towards other people, the bullying at school that went unresolved. I just 🤯.
