I don't see anyone using a proper respiratory protection while they're creating fine wood dust. Sometimes they breath up close to the work. That's got to be dangerous in the longer term.
I have an artistic wood carving channel, and this has always been my dream. I wish I could dedicate myself to making stocks for all types of weapons like you, it would be incredible. Those rifle stocks that you create are impressive to me... I would love to learn how to make them.
how do you know how big and thick to make the piece you cut out for the comb, and when to go all the way to the point instead of making a short one like on a rifle ? Is there a standard or rule of thumb ?
@@Bramshooting that's fair Ive watched some masters go without the machines the whole process though. i think the quality is higher and the higher price is worth it. not that the quality of work shown is bad either.
The only thing I don't like is the checkering. Not a fan myself because I dislike the way it interferes with me enjoying the grain pattern, and I've never enjoyed the feel nor noticed any real grip additions. Personal preference. Beautiful stock nonetheless.
And more power to that customer. He/she has a beautiful stock. I simply love woodgrain more without checkering. No offense to you or anyone else. Keep up the great work!

Mostly using machines. Really handcrafting a stock means using chisels, scrapers, inletting black. Not a CNC machine and a dremel.

Very much the same way we do it except the workshop is cleaner! We prefer to use a jig to hold the stock ready for checkering. True craftsmen.

The checkering is under customer request, now lot of people prefer to shoot with a stock without checkering using gloves
