The name Kit Kat (Kitto Katto) sounds very similar to a Japanese phrase "Kitto Katsu" which means "you will surely win". So it quickly became tradition to give a student a Kit Kat before or after completing a major exam as a good luck charm.

Me, having random knowledge: Kit Kat sort of sounds like “Kitto Katsu” meaning “guaranteed to win/do well”. It’s especially considered good luck to give to students during exams time in Japan, which is why there’s so many variations of the candy in Japan. 👍 (told to me by my teacher cousin in Okinawa)

In case you didn't know, ruby chocolate is a new variant of chocolate. It comes from the ruby cocoa bean and doesn't have any fruit flavor added to it.

The main difference between ruby and milk, dark chocolate is that the cacao beans are not fermented, instead fresh cacao beans are used in production that why it taste like it has a some barry in it.

I've come to realize Japan has a talent for taking essentially anything from other countries and cranking it up to 110.

It's really just for Kit Kats because of its Japanese pronunciation, "Kito Katsu," which means "sure to win/pass." The post office sells them because it's popular for parents to send Kit Kats to their kids taking exams as a good luck charm. It's because of this that nearly every flavor of Kit Kat in Japan is a success.

@@genesisvazquez1068 nibs are from the seed just like chocolate. the little pulp cacao has tastes a bit sweet and sour. the seeds are huge and the pulp is tiny. chocolate is made by roasting and fermenting a bit the seeds and adding sugar.

I'm so shocked that they didn't like it, cause HojiCha kitkat is the best thing I've ever had in my mouth. I had a period of my life where I would buy boxes of it and eat it every day, it's tastes so amazing like a nutty roasted tea and sweet white chocolate.

"Cacao fruit" is the literal name of the fruit that grows from the cacao tree. What that flavour was was probably like 9x% and, from the sour face, likely unsweetend.
Also chocolate is made of processed cacao beans.

We do have other KitKat flavours in the UK but they’re not as extra as Japan’s. We have stuff like chocolate orange, mint, white chocolate, dark chocolate etc. KitKat chunkies are more unique because we have peanut butter, cookies and cream, hazelnut spread, lotus biscoff etc. You can get most of these in B&M or corner shops.

Cacao fruit is the actual fruit from which we get the beans made into chocolate. Also by what they mean by “volcanic” refers to the area and soil that they grow them in, although this advice is pretty obvious my parents go to Hawaii religiously, meaning like at least once or twice a year and knowing I’m a major soda/sweets/candy fan they usually bring back some stuff for me along with a long explained background story on what they brought back. It’s really interesting actually. In fact, my dad literally just got back from Switzerland yesterday and I’m eating some of the chocolate he brought back for me while watching this. It kinda fits actually.
Kit kats success was hugely boosted by the name being close to kitto katsu, which roughly translates to you "you will surely succeed". They then used it for marketing and its popularity exploded in Japan

I'm in the USA, we have regular, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, key lime pie, apple pie, fruity cereal, duos mocha and chocolate, mint and dark chocolate, lemon crisp, strawberry, pumpkin pie, witches brew (halloween colored), and sweet cinnamon for christmas. Most of these are seasonal specialties and limited time ones. The only one's we have constant are milk, dark, white chocolate, and lately also the mint chocolate and mocha chocolate ones are here to stay.
The duos I have seen the cereal one. Haven't seen any of the others in upstate NY

Cacao fruit is different front what's used in chocolate. It's a different part of the pod.
@Jimmer Seiber, cacao powder(Used to make chocolate) is ground up seed. I ASSUME that the fruit flavor just comes from the flesh around the seed.

The uk does have orange and mint Kit Kat’s, they where out in the 90s and have been rereleased a few times since until a decade ago when they became mainstream. There’s a dark and strawberry one too now and I’ve seen birthday cake ones in American sweet shops!
We recently had chips/crisps with "hotdog with ketchup" taste and it was identical which in turn somehow just made it good.

7:57 “Ruby” flavor is actually Ruby chocolate! It’s another variation of chocolate next to milk, dark, and white! It’s usually described to have a fruity taste than the other variations which is why it tastes like light strawberry!

The big difference is that they don’t ferment the cacao for ruby chocolate which leads to its lighter chocolate flavor

I didn't see anyone else commenting on it (although I may have missed someone) but Ruby isn't a flavored chocolate, it's a type of chocolate, like milk chocolate or dark chocolate. The flavor actually comes from the special sort of cacao beans they use and the special processing method. It's only been on the market since 2017 so it's both new and fairly rare. pretty cool to see ruby kitkat.
I've got a tons of kitkat versions when I was in japan. Half of it was uneatable. Other half was godlike.

Boss coffee (cold versions) is available in Australia and has been for a few years. I’m guessing it’s been improved over the Japanese versions tho as good coffee is a big deal here.
