I have never been a fan of the tenor horn but this is amazing in all aspects. Sound, musicianship and style supported by a solid technical foundation. Pleasingly the vibrato is never overdone. Mozart would have been impressed I am sure. And what an accompaniment. YBS has always been one of my favourite bands. Always musical and well balanced. Tuttis are “never more than beautiful”. If only more bands could play like this.
Wow! And all I thought a tenor horn did was just "fill-in" parts. Never heard it as a solo instrument before. Beautifully played by an equally beautiful lady (-:
Fantastic performance. Kudos to Ms. White and to the exceptional Yorkshire Brass Band accompanying. Brass concerts are often "loud" - but this unique horn solo with brass accompaniment reached into the valleys of ppp and the mountain tops of fff with great ease. If only ALL brass players could be so versatile - especially in the valleys. :o))
Not surprising you thought tenor horn was just for fill-in. I know from observation and personal experience that all things are not equal when it comes to tenor horn solos. Very much an overlooked instrument, which is pretty had to understand, hearing a performance like this. It has a beautiful tone when well played
As far as I am concerned Sheona White is not only the best tenor horn player I have ever heard but the tenor horn itself is the best all round sounding brass instrument by quite a margin, not the euphonium. I do not know if there is a larger version of the tenor horn in Bb but that would really nail it then. We must not forget that, as far as I know the tenor horn is yet another amazing invention of Adolph Sax and if I am correct we must never forget that fact.
I don't see the two in direct competition of each other. The euphonium and the tenor horn have completely different timbres that blend quite well when played in the brass band together. This is a gorgeous performance, but there are just as many great performances by world class euphonium players.
In a UK style Brass Band there is the Baritone in Bb which appears between the Tenor Horn in Eb & Euphonium in Bb with regard to scoring and this may be the instrument you are referencing above (a larger version of the tenor horn in Bb). This instrument adds a different tonal quality to the Euphonium although pitched the same in Bb. It technically has the same range although most Baritone parts do not normally go into the very low or extremely high tessitura as with modern Euphonium parts.

I never thought I would ever hear a tenor horn played like that. Superb recording too.
The band is perfect !
💖💖💖 Magnifique 💖💖💖
Lovely playing and great sound a true star
I never knew a simple little childhood song could ever turn into something as beautiful as this! :)
Ms White is the cream of the crop. I could cheerfully listen to her playing Demelza for 8 hours non-stop.
A very talented Tenor Horn player... the best!

lindo o extretmo adoro
A Tenor Horn can do anything a cornet can do, just down a fifth.
Ausgezeichnet, Spitze wunderschöner Ton!!!
I enjoyed very, very much!!!
Great sound, def the best solo horn player about :-)
Love the arrangement!!! Superb solo!!! Sounds similar to Christian Lindberg's version with the exception of his piano accompaniment. Bravo 👏

Wonderful!
The piece is Mozart's Twelve Variations on "Ah vous dirai-je, Maman", K. 265/300e. Originally for piano.

Vysca i agree, like human voices alto is not better than tenor or bariton and vice versa.
