Every time I go back to the racetrack, it seems it loses more and more of it's character. I was a prolific railfanner on the racetrack from 1993-2000. My favorite places on the line were Downers Grove, Westmont, Hinsdale, Berwyn (Oak Park Ave), and Riverside. So much has changed along the line in the last 20 years, most notably the CB&Q era searchlights. The racetrack doesn't seem the same without them. Thanks for the trip back Dan!
man to me seeing an old EMD Burlington northern pulling a,next generation Metra passenger train is like seeing a dinosaur riding a Lamborghini, an other words it's RARE to see one!
My friend and I go to Hinsdale once in a while to railfan, it's real nice seeing Hinsdale back around that time, the platform was different, and I remember being on that hill where you got the second fright train (I think that's what it was).
This is great! It's a shame that Joseph cipars channel isn't around anymore 😔 but I Really enjoy your vids too Dan. I've always had a secret interest for trains and still do today there's something about the E units that spark a bit of interest to me.

Fantastic video, great to see the old EMD E units again
+Mike D Thanks. I'm glad I was able to get there a few times before they were retired.
I grew up watching those trains roll through there...
Excellent!!! And to see a MoPac unit in 1990!?! Killer catch!!!

Awesome! Seems like intermodal traffic was high back then. Love those BN E or F units leading the Metra trains!
Grew up riding the old BNs. Thanks for the archive.
Great video of classic BN-era Dinkies on the Racetrack! I subscribed!
+Rainier Rails I've been back a bunch of times, but this was probably my favorite day at Hinsdale.
0:58 that is the cleanest I have ever seen the 9900
Dan, 2 words
FANTASTIC
thank you for sharing and i can't believe the passenger F7's were used as late as the 90's
thats great
Ride Auto Sales Finance they are e9 locomotives
These are not F-7s
Classic EMDs are full of surprises
metra bi levels and bn e units. what a combo!
Great video I miss trains in Chicago and the BN E units
It was great that the busiest line had the coolest engines & they faced west into the afternoon light.
Man what a time machine.
This is awesome! I wish this was like nowadays!
Leave it to Metra to use old and reliable beautiful engines to their last breath. I love it
Glad you liked it. :)

Very nice! Looks so cool
I just love the sound of those crossing signal bells....before those annoying monotone electronic ones came along.
I agree
And the locomotive bells, too.
Awesome!!
It's scary because you dont hear the bell until it hits you. #usehorns #savelifes
3:42 metra race
The middle track usually wins. :)
Anybody remember that 1988 trains article, 24 hrs on the racetrack?
Yep, that was one of the reasons I went there.
@@dlcluley Thank you for going, awesome video.
Did metra build those or Burlington Northern build those E units in the 1950's
*NOSTALGIA INTENSIFIES*
6:43 why did he sound the horn?
Railfanner horn show
I'm a railfanner as well *ahem.*

This Was Taken A Year Before Mary T Wojtyla Got Hit By A Train
She was hit by a BN E9 unit number (9912). The E9 units are shown many times throughout this video.
I Know
And this was 13 days after the 1990 Plainfield F5 too.
