Ridiculously good. His musical influences make total sense. 80's kids are from the most musically aware generation. So glad I stumbled upon this greatness.
I will never forget the first time I saw this guy. I had no idea who he was and he was. He came out on stage and introduced himself and asked us to act like we had know him forever! Then he ran back on stage with a Gold Robe on and just started beat boxing and looping and then all of a sudden everyone was getting their groove on! Jamie Lidell is MAGICAL!!!
Was this by chance at Pitchfork fest in 2007? Because I had the exact same experience. Gold wrapping fluttering around his head, looking like a madman. Some very lo-res clips of that performance on RUclips but I have been trying to find the full thing somewhere. Truly one of the best live surprises I've ever experienced.
Muddlin Gear is his first, and its fantastic, Daddy's Car is off that album. And if ya wanna go further back, his work with Super Collider is also awesome, Darn Cold Way O Lovin and It Wont Be Long have pretty sweet videos.
As a musician who's into technology, I can't imagine how many hours he put into perfecting his craft. Getting this perfect hang of all these technologies so he can do a flawless live performance is probably one of the most difficult things ever.
Jamie Lidell is the most inspiration i've felt since the string of Stevie Wonder's 70's records starting with "Music of my mind". I'm not surprised with the influences he spoke of. He's perhaps the most soulful artist out there. Makes me want to go to Nashville. He's got a band now but I am amazed with his writing, lyrics and tech genius.
I can't believe I've never seen this performance! I felt like watching his video for "Daddy's Car" (classic) and this popped up on the feed, glad I checked it out. One of the best natural musicians of this generation
This version of When I Come Back Around is really cool! Definitely prefer his solo performances when he's looping over his performances with a backing band. So lucky to have seen him do his solo performance twice. Wish he'd tour again.
@jcrm05 if you just remember that spreading negative opinions on comment sections is akin to a male dog pissing on cars and lamp posts then it all becomes easier to understand 🌻
I think Jamie should release a remix of when I come back around every year, I think the first time I heard the first version of this song was a live version in like 99??? Still sounds amazing, I'd love a copy of the version on this video...
goddamn so fucking genius. i feel like i'm listening to rick james or something in do you love me....but it's not rick james, it's a white brit named jamie fucking lidell! yeaaaah! killin it
That's not a mixer per-se, it's a MIDI controller that talks and listens to his computer. Each fader may control any parameter (a volume, an effect, a pitch, whatever) in his computer-based system. The control surface has different "modes" or "scenes" and the faders move to show off the present state of those parameter settings. ...not unlike the way the pixels on your monitor change when you show reveal new virtual windows.

Seen him live 3 times. So underrated.
I envy you

Saw him live in the early 2000s basically doing what Marc Ribillet does now, 20 years before. Real pioneer of this live looping stuff
for anyone who is new to this guy, his first album "Multiply" is a masterpiece
+D'andre Chesterfield Thats not his first album ;)

Great souly voice - better just listen to him and imagine a band than to watch all the electronic stuff around...
Do someone know about "jamie lewis" he talks about at 12'40 ? I never heard of him and didn't find anything relevant on google...
He said "Jam& Lewis" ... Jimmy Jam & Terry Lews
+djveggie ok !!! thanks

goddamn so fucking genius. i feel like i'm listening to rick james or something in do you love me....but it's not rick james, it's a white brit named jamie fucking lidell! yeaaaah! killin it
This is dope. If you somehow got here demanding dubstep purity, just leave and save those of us who know who he is.
Jamie Fucking Perfect Lidell
Cool. I hear so much influence from Stevie Wonder.
what is that mixer with the faders that snap back to the bottom?
That's not a mixer per-se, it's a MIDI controller that talks and listens to his computer. Each fader may control any parameter (a volume, an effect, a pitch, whatever) in his computer-based system. is he using it with ableton?
