The best mouse is... a keyboard?

- The ScottoMouse is a 6-key macropad that utilizes QMK mouse keys to emulate a mouse. Since this board is basically a complete joke, I used the biggest joke of a switch to ever exist... the Cherry MX brown.

The developer of osu (peppy) actually has no mouse and uses his keyboard for cursor movement
That sounds really interesting, could you linl a resource?
@@en7998 sure: ruclips.net/video/3sVvC1FCTzs/видео.html
I've been using the QMK mouse mode on my ergodox for about a year now. It's not a full substitute, so I have a trackball on my desk too for bigger stuff, but for minor movements (like clicking the "comment" button, for instance) it means i never have to take my hands off home row
It’s really convenient to use. That said, some of my inspiration for this build came from a tool called “warpd”. You might be interested in it since it’s a lot more fine tuned than QMK mouse keys and runs locally on the OS.
id actually love this as a double layer macropad for stuff like commonly used keyboard shortcuts or additional function keys
> joke of a switch
Someone is going for that rage bait here!
The MX brown is an insult to tactile switches… the bump is so light that it could easily be mistaken for a linear with a defect lol
i think its actually not stupid, could be cool to integrate it into a custom keyboard as a layer in order to keep on the keyboard, not a substitute to mouse but another way that could be interesting in some situations
Oh absolutely, that's the main reason it exists. I use it on some of my boards actually :)
@@joe_scotto oh so im not a genious
cool that idea but yeah, as an isolated device it makes no sense, it just exists to exist and for fun
genius, look it so comfortable!
This is totally a good solution for wearables!
this might work a lot better with analog switches? there's really no substitution for the physical control of a mouse, ball, or trackpad, but I think being able to move in more than 8 directions might be helpful. also, some stuff like a 180 key for gaming to compensate for the slower movement might be interesting.
What gauge wire do you prefer now for handwired?
Still 16g but I've been messing around with 14g to make things heavier and 18g/20g (one of those two) for lower profile builds
Exited about upcoming projects!
I am too… I’ve been sitting on that new handwired design for a week now and am dying to build it.
I have a mouse layer. Works play for basic things.
I'm planning to do this with rotary encoders instead of keys
Why not put a laser on the bottom to actually use it like a mouse also?
Because then it wouldn't be a meme and would actually be a mouse lol
@@joe_scotto truuuuuueeee 😆
I've always wanted a split keeb with a laser under it to see if I could work without taking my hands off of it.
The order for a 1x4 "nav cluster" is usually left, down, up, right. An example would be the vim keys or just about any keymap you find online where the arrows are on the home row instead of the tetris shape.
Yes but I prefer it this way, it’s how I’ve done arrow keys for 3 years now.
@@joe_scotto I get that. It wasn't completely obvious to me either which order would be the "correct" one. The down-up order felt a bit counterintuitive because it feels like the up-down order more closely resembles the usual tetris shape layout. I used to remember the down-up by thinking of a graph like "stonks" which decreases to the left and goes up in the right direction. :D
@@0xmilan pretty much every permutation of the order of arrows on a single row was used at some point in old keyboards: ruclips.net/video/BytowtVycc0/видео.html
@@arturbecker9936 Thanks! This was actually in my recommended but I haven't got around to watching it yet. :D
@@0xmilan Haha no worries!
joke of a switch..i kinda like browns.... but excited for my choc reds.
Browns are like defective linears lol... Choc reds are great though.
Lol. Pretty cool
Play Fortnite on it
