My job got hit very hard by the crowd strike outages today. Many computers are flying systems off-line with the blue screen of death orders unable to be processed, payment processor off-line, a lot of stuff we need every day not working. Total chaos. We are still waiting for systems to come back online many hours later after it stopped working late last night..
The lack of diversification is a direct result of most large enterprises adopting Microsoft Windows across the board. Server side. Desktop. Cloud. To quote an old IBM commercial, "You never get fired for choosing Microsoft." This is where that line of thinking leads. Oh. And if I were to hazard a guess, enabling auto update on everyone's desktop.

Devs usually shut the network down until it is fixed. It's not uncommon with all the new layer 1s. Ethereum had bad glitch and they forked the network. That's how Ethereum Classic was created.

The weakest link for crypto I think is the apps that on top of the block chains not the chains themselves. These apps are hosted in the same way and run the same risks. Some would argue that the companies affected need to build more reobust systems that reduce or ideally remove key dependencies, but this costs money. Block chain would not necessarily have saved you even peer to peer.
@mikeseal8858 icp is the ONLY blockchain that you can build the ENTIRE internet on. Making it decentralized, unhackable and outages would never be an issue. Every other blockchain uses servers from Microsoft, Google or Amazon.
