El Rastro, meaning "the trail" in Spanish, is more than just a market; it's a vibrant experience steeped in history and overflowing with unique finds.
Here's what you need to know:
    What is it?
The largest and most popular open-air flea market in Madrid.
Over 1,000 stalls selling everything from antiques and vintage clothing to handmade crafts, collectibles, and delicious street food.
A lively atmosphere with street performers, musicians, and the iconic "barquilleros" selling traditional wafer snacks.
    When and where?
Held every Sunday and public holiday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Located in the La Latina neighbourhood, in the triangle formed by Calle Embajadores, Ronda de Toledo, and Plaza de Cascorro.
Nearest metro stations: La Latina or Puerta de Toledo.
    What to expect?
A maze of narrow streets lined with stalls overflowing with treasures.
Bargaining is expected and fun! Be prepared to negotiate for the best price.
Be mindful of pickpockets, especially in crowded areas.
Wear comfortable shoes, as you'll be doing a lot of walking.
Bring cash, as not all vendors accept cards.
    What to find?
Antiques and vintage furniture, books, records, clothes, jewellery, and artwork.
    Souvenirs and tourist trinkets.
    Local crafts and handmade goods.
Delicious street food from various regions of Spain.
    Tips for your visit:
Arrive early (around 9:00 am) to avoid the crowds and have the best selection.
Dress comfortably and wear sunscreen if it's a sunny day.
Bring a reusable bag to carry your purchases.
Learn some basic Spanish phrases, as not all vendors speak English.
Enjoy the atmosphere and don't be afraid to explore!
