Thanks, my friend; I subscribed. I "unboxed" my own new Nikon S9900 a couple days ago, your video helped me with the many features. I wanted a quality camera that I could carry in my pocket, this one certainly has everything possible for its size. Looking forward to your video on how to use high tech features such as GPS Wi-Fi, etc.
Waiting for your review. The lens is pretty dark because of the huge zoom range, I'd be curious to know how does the camera perform in low light and close-to-no light without a tripod.
Amazing camera .love ur videos on cameras .I'd love to see ur opinions on the Nikon p600 or the new 900 with an 80x zoom.or some lumix fz cameras .I saw ur video on the Fuji hs50 which is my dream camera .........I think its the perfect camera for almost all photographers ,do u agree .what u think of it now .what are the best bridge cameras u own or want to own excluding the fz1000 and rx10 cause those r too awesome hahaha expensive but crazy amazing to own
Does this camera have gesture control like the Nikon COOLPIX 6600? Or any feature that allows you to capture photos from afar without actually pressing the capture button? (Other than via a smartphone).
im looking for a camera to use when i start my youtube channel, mostly for indoor sit down recording and vlogging, would you recommend this camera? it seems like one of the best in my under $300 price range
(help me please) Hello, thank you very much for the video, I have a huge question, I have this camera (Nikon Coolpix S9900) and I would like to use it as a webcam to transmit in my video calls, I have seen that other cameras can connect without problems, it The only thing I need is to connect it and see on the screen what is seen through the lens. I would pass it to OBS or any other software (I know how to do it), but I have not been able to access it, I have used a video capture device (a very basic one) and nothing, I have used the digicam software but it only lets me take photos but nothing Of video. I connect it by USB, MicroHDMI-HDMI and neither, I have used a nikon software and neither. I appreciate all the information.
Very nice camera, love the flip out screen, so far I can see two negatives, 1. the placement of the microphones, they are in an odd position, one on each side of the lens would have been a better way to go and 2. 1080i instead of 1080p I wonder what Nikon was thinking on that one. I am going over to Vimeo now to watch the premium content now. Have an awesome weekend Dave!
I am confused among Nikon S9900 , D5200 and P610. I am not much into photography , all I want is a camera that is good for Vlogs or movie. What would you suggest? Waiting for your response. Thanks for sharing
What would be interesting is a comparison video between this camera and the Canon PowerShot SX700 HS. While this has the flipout screen, wifi, and gps the Canon has one feature I would trade all of those for instead, an external mic input. Would be interesting to see either Nikon or Canon combine the flip out screen and mic input into one compact camera for a movie video focused model rather than having to carry a DSLR around. Edit: ok the only thing the PowerShot SX700 HS is missing is the flipout screen and gps, it has NFC and Wifi with the external mic jack.

Nickk Bisht It comes down to a lot of what kind of vlogs are you looking to do honestly, for most basic types a point and shoot (like the S9900) will fit that roll very well. Personally I would go a bit of a different rout though and use a GoPro, I know this sounds odd but hear me out on this. First the GoPro is ultra compact yet it has a very crisp image, and since its focus is locked you won't have to worry about focusing all the time. Second GoPro offers expandability with microphones, mounts, and lights that can be had for really low prices. Third you can have it setup in you car while driving, this way if you have just though of something to talk about you can film and talk. Best of all you do not need the top of the line one to make it work either you could do this with a GoPro Hero 3 White and get really good result, although I would avoid the new Hero model as they do not offer the mic support.
I'm in the US. My camera is black but it does appear to be substantially the same camera. Mine says it is 30x zoom, but I am wondering if part of that is optical and part of it digital? I am not familiar with it yet but like it very much.
Another great video Dave :). I don't really see the point in purchasing a compact camera like this anymore. Most people buying these will be for casual use. You may aswell use your smartphone. I know the sensor is bigger and the lenses is higher quality but for practicality modern smart phones cameras are good enough to capture memory's in very high detail. And as for pro use, you may as well go for a bridge camera or DLSR. Just my opinion of course :p
Dominic Warr Good point, but a smartphone will never capture the quality offered by a compact like this. The review shows the amazing 750mm zoom range, which is awesome for both video and photos. A "photographer" would definitely carry something like this or a small micro four thirds camera, or indeed a mirrorless, to avoid using a smartphone simply to take snapshots. However, I do understand what you mean and for many a smartphone is good enough.
Bridge cameras are awful. Personally been using a DSLR for semi-pro work so I'll agree with you there, things like dynamic range and shadow/highlight recovery are not really good on smart phones. Moving to a mirror less system (soon hopefully) to shed weight and hopefully gain some quality. If I'm wanting a compact travel camera with amazing image quality I'll always take an old film rangefinder or a high end compact film camera over something like this. For most people smart phones are enough, photography is so easily accessible to anyone and everyone that it has made small compact cameras almost obsolete, the only ones staying afloat are the likes of the RX100, RX1, LX100 etc. These are borderline professional cameras though.
Dominic Warr I am buying a camera like this, because I am going on holiday to Florida and want a camera with better IQ, zoom and more manual controls than my smartphone. I also do not want to carry my OMD EM5 around with me everywhere, so a compact travel zoom like this is ideal :)
I have the s9500 and am gona upgrade to the s9900..... There are some great things about this compact camera.... Full manual mode, time lapse, great zoom which gets to the major benefit of this camera.....my wife has a canon rebel t3i dslr and I never use it.... to big and bulky for hiking and outdoor photos..... with the 9900 you don't need to carry all of those lenses around and worry about breaking a 1000 dollar lens that dosent have as much zoom as the 9900..... so you will look forward to using your gear instead of forcing your self out.... not having a lens cap is a huge plus for me.... and picture quality is just fine I have won photo contest with the 9500 at codorus state park and also on earthsky.com..... You just have to play with the camera and figure out how to optimize your cituiation.... Photoshop is a great addition to this..... the one thing I would like to see in the next Nikon S compact is........ RAW Photos 1080P60 at the very least...would prefer 4k...... Coldweather protection like the 9500 had bigger sensors are always welcome...... fix there stupid panorama mode which makes you go a full 180 degrees before it will save it and makes it difficult to capture..... then I have to go in photoshop and crop the part out I don't want..... Either way I am so pumped to go take this out and shoot with it. The silver looks amazing but will prob get the black so the sun isn't reflecting in my eyes and black may give you slightly more battery life during the winter......maybe
should I get this or the l840for video ad photography

I don’t think this offers live HDMI output.

Thanks Darren. The mic placement will surprise you.
Hi,

Thank you!

nice camera ... I question
overall image quality is similar s9900 , s9700 - s7000 nikon cameras?
sharpness , color , image stabilization is similar?

It's 30X optical with roughly a 4X digital zoom so technically it's a 34X zoom.
Another great video Dave :).

is it mostly metal or plastic? would you recomend this over the l840 or not?
+Cyber_Warrior Not sure of the plastic content, but a very good choice.
