Had the same fret end issues on another Affinity Tele that my drummer bought off Amazon. Once I cleaned them up and put a set of Texas Special pu’s in and swapped out the pots and wiring it’s not a bad playing/sounding guitar.

I picked up an Affinity series strat that was supposed to look like a CBS with the big headstock at a pawn shop in Elkhart Indiana for $75 and stuck in a gig bag for years. I polished it up, and put a real Fender pick guard on it with Tex-Mex Fender PU’s, leveled and crowned the frets, ditched the shitty, crappy, lousy hardware and now it plays great. Still isn’t worth shit, but it plays great, so who cares?

After all, a musical instrument is only as good as it is setup. And for you it works, it doesn't need to be custom shop bla bla bla etc. When you're playing, all they (the crowd) are concerned about is a good time. So, don't down play what you did bud! I picked one of those up on ebay a few years ago for $80. Put a couple Seymour Duncan Pickups in it, and after a quick setup (that bridge really needs to be dialed in or else it buzzes), it's actually an incredible guitar for less than $200.

@@mikestillwagon5675 Ha, ha, ha! You can't beat a deal like that with a stick! Jack Pearson, the Nashville session great and former Allman Brothers Band guitarist, plays a Squier Strat Affinity or Bullet that he picked up at a Guitar Center near where he lives in Tennessee. He changed the volume pot and that is all. Plays it at professional gigs and also played it while touring with the Allman Brothers. He says sometimes people see the "Squier" head stock sticker and laugh but he doesn't give a hoot. He says it is just one of those rare guitars that got all the right pieces at the factory and it resonates incredibly. There are videos of him explaining it all here on RUclips.

@@mikestillwagon5675 Yes, many of the cheap Squiers are just a part or two away from being really good instruments. Jack Pearson bought the Squier Strat because a friend asked him to find a cheap guitar for his daughter. He said he tried out about 20 different ones before he found the real gem. Then his friend's daughter decided she wanted a Telecaster instead. Jack rejoiced because he _really_ wanted to keep that Strat. Sometimes going out of your way to help someone else really pays off in the strangest ways! 😎
PS Check out Jack Pearson making his Squier sound like it is attached to a wah-wah pedal, just through his incredible technique at strumming it. You won't believe it until you see it! What a guitar player! I can see why he is in such huge demand in Nashville!

The trick with the Affinities is, you have to order them direct from Fender. Guitar retailers badly neglect their instruments. I've seen bullet squiers to $3000 gibsons with fret ends that will cut your hand off on the walls of Guitar Center and Sam Ash. The cheaper guitars made with worse components will fall into disrepair faster.
If you order an Affinity direct from Fender, they send it from a humidity controlled environment straight to you instead of letting it dry out and the neck go to hell on the wall of a guitar center.
I had no fret sprout at all, and since I maintain 45-55% humidity all year round, fret sprout never developed.
As to the fret JOB?...that's a different story. you get what you pay for. I had to spot level four high frets. One of them was REALLY high.
I eventually got it playing okay but you know, the whammy is soft and bendy. The bridge plate is soft and light. there are limits to what you can really do on these, but if you maintain humidity and level the frets, it's a solid student guitar/beater/mod platform.

I think, when buying any make/brand of guitar, new or used/new to me, its best to always factor in need for a DIY setup or paying someone like Dave to do the setup for me. **I learned from watching Dave and got the proper tools so I DIY everything now. I suspect, unfortunately, cheaper ($$$) instruments correlate most with greatest need for setups and owners/players less likely to be aware or educated about proper setups, need for setup, skills to DIY setups or $$ to pay for setups. It is largely because of a lot of neo Nazis pumping out their revisionist history, and other assorted quacks, nuts and bolts. Some of it is just left wing censorship, though. And I'm not even political but the far left are nutty as fruit cakes these days. For example, the University of Alberta in Edmonton recently hired a "history professor" who denies that the Ukrainian Holodomor even happened. When asked why they hired someone who teaches verifiably false history, the U of A brainiacs said "We think it is important that all points of view be taught." That is the state of Canadian universities today. Even lies have to be taught. Is it any wonder we are sinking like a rock in the middle of the Pacific? Even the federal government is circulating "critical race theory" nonsense in their Global Affairs dept. For those who don't know, critical race theory states that only white people are racist. I'm afraid that Mr. Trudeau is no genius and knows little about this world! Why Canadians elected a drama teacher as PM is beyond me. 🙄

Just in case you ever run into this situation with Wilkinson bridges.
Stu Mac sells the ones not made in China for sixty some odd dollars.
Amazon sells them for twenty five.
So there’s a difference. I had no idea before. They are different quality.
      The Chinese one it’s garbage.

I don't think Dave charges $400 for a set up ... Here in Calgary they are anywhere from $50 to $75 from a good tech.

Affinity is squires lowest quality product ., They are generally crap, they only look like a Fender. Squire makes other models that rival all but Fenders best. I have two 50s Vintage vibes that have been modded that I’d put up against and Fender Tele.

Bullet is the bottom, Affinity is one step up, and I agree, the Classic Vibe is a far superior instrument.

You are talking bullshit, I would put my tele affinity up against any u.s.a. overpriced fashion guitar, bet you wear all the labels ? But can you play worth a shit,?. Plain dumb comment.
