Fun fact in an interview Bruno said he called up Babyface for Put On A Smile to put his stamp on it. That's why I personally think it hits differently then most of the songs in this masterpiece of a record.
This album gave us both styles, the singing of Bruno and the unique voice/rap of Anderson. Anderson went to another level singing. When Anderson and Bruno harmonize, wow! Silk Sonic is unbeatable with the vocals and the instrumental arrangements. Loved your grooving reaction.
The intro invites you to the story. Leave the door open invites the young lady into his world. Fly as me is them realizing I must be fly/fine if she came into my world so let me brag, we know it’s the same woman because in leave the door open he offered her steak, in fly as me he told her to put truffles on her mashed potatoes that means she is there eating his filets with mashed potatoes (they are so brilliant). On Smoking Out The Window the reality of her life being more than he can handle and around his friends he is calling a bitch leads perfectly to him saying in Put on a Smile “when I called you out your name that was my ego, my pride, my pain”. 777 is him going to Vegas with their boys trying to blow of some steam from his break up. Skate is him/them starting to flirt with new women. Blast Off is a perfect outro but it also reflects being at peace with where they are in life.
Ross was really meant to be in a Motown group. Dub them quiet storm radio hosts and trillbilly them coaches about stage presence. Dope reaction to this album
